MorlockGod
Has anybody else discovered this yet, or better still a solution? The amount of available 'Resources Usage' memory is affected by the resolution of your Windows Desktop. So if you run GTAIV from a nice high-res desktop then that amount of Video RAM is lost to you during your game. Reducing your Windows Desktop resolution does help a little. I would suspect that the "-no restrictions" option merely masks this problem rather letting you push into that locked area of VRAM. If the game thinks you only have 280MB of VRAM on you 320MB graphics card then internally the game may not try to write to that lost 40MB, regardless of your other settings. This is inexcusably sloppy programming by Rockstar. If there isn't already a working solution for this perhaps we need a way to launch GTAIV from another application that uses no VRAM. LulzChicken
I agree but how can I take off the limitations? I want to exceed the "recommended memory sh*t" and choose my own settings.
Lutra78
As much as I know no game uses all of the VRAM, because the desktop is always loaded there. GTAIV ist just one of the few games which shows that to the user.

Especially in THIS game. --- Edit: I increase my available resources in GTAIV by over 20MB by reducing my desktop resolution. That may not seem like much, but it made a big difference. Vista automatically disabled aero and thje Desktop when using 3d apps, this has been nenched ages ago and has ZERO performance implications. Lutra78
Maybe Vista with Aero but not XP, I'm sure about that.
MorlockGod
I could understand it being necessary if i had my second monitor active and it was displaying a desktop simultaneously to GTA running, but in the background?! I need to squeeze all the juice I can out my little 320MB card.
