Countdown
Valve are reportedly offering refunds for folk who bought the thing off Steam and can’t get it to run GTAgate: How Was It For You? There is an interesting remark in the article: _" It’s interesting that none of us who reviewed it (my write-up’s in the latest PC Format, where I’m significantly less forgiving of the multiple login doormen than others were) didn’t hit these tech problems in the code we were sent just a couple of a weeks back. The performance was unacceptably sluggish unless I dropped everything way-low, but there was none of these bewildering impasses. We were on a different clutch of activation etc servers and, I think, had a different version of Securom, but the Fatal Errors seem unrelated to that. So did bugfixing after the review code introduce new problems? "_
Mr Heckler
This is a good thing for everyone, if a major seller starts giving refunds to disgruntled customers rockstar will HAVE to pull their finger out to resolve the issues. It's just a question of when, and how much of an improvement will they make... To be honest, I want to be able to run the game with all settings maxed out at 1280x1024 which is the max res of my current monitor... which given the fact my system is only 6 weeks old and just one step below the top end stuff you can buy today... is not an unreasonable request. All my other games manage it, including the latest ones that look a hell of a lot better than this. I can run far cry 2 at this res with AA and AF and all settigns at max and it's still giving me big fps numbers.

Yes indeed after all "business is business" and when they realise there hard line view on "for future kit" wont wash when companies start having to refund (and ontop of financial situations) thats where it will hurt. Cuasing companies to refund right now as an offer does give them a kick up the backside thats for sure.

If you care about money, you could have get it for 23 quid off Coop online or for 13 quid from India (legal zone free copy apparently). Money back apply, AFAIK. The more there is critical news and comments - the sooner we will get a working patch... i hope so, i really want to play it, but have never know a patch to be a saviour of any game, they will need some kind of Wonder-patch to solve this, still i hope they manage cause i seriously want to play this, dont want the box sitting staring at me and i cant even get it to run
disposeablehero
It is unprecidented for a service like Steam to offer refunds for upset customers. Just shows how bad it really is. Where are the rockstar apologist?

Where are the rockstar apologist? i love valve but if this is true, i hope they havent jumped the gun a little, they should wait till the patch is released, then decide, dont want to damage the already shaky pc gaming industry anymore, with a white flag waving, saying ooops the games f***ed get your refunds here should have bought a

People paid for a product and Valve are doing the right thing in doing what isd best for paying customers. Seriously, anyone who thinks a patch can fix this disaster has no clue. The entire code, lack of tech knowledge in how to use resources properly needs a total revamp.

So PC customes are crucial for Rockstar if they are dreaming to beat San Andreas 21 million copies. As it was mentioned in the article: securom might be broken - and online activation etc, etc are all taking resources from computer.

What does that say about PC gaming? Seriously? How fookin stupid are you, has nothing to do with PC gaming, but everything to do with Rockstar. Not PC gamings fault Rockstar is incompetent. Bully also was terrible, yet that game is old and looks ancient, yet still runs bad and was a terrible port. Nothing to do with PC's, some devs know how to make good PC games, some don't. Rockstar has no clue, they need to either hire new tech people or contract it out.
