menacepwr
After browsing around a little I can't seem to find a solution to my particular problem: I have Vista with SP1 and just downloaded Framework 3.5 and I'm getting the RMN40 error. I know what the error means but I was playing the game just last night I turned my computer off and today even after a restart after Framework was installed it doesn't work, I just see the command prompt thing and then I get the error. I am sure everything is up to date, I fit the recommended requirements to play the game, I was playing it hours ago, does anyone have any suggestions. I have an 8800gts and the game is via Steam. I did get the error last night (first time played) but after a restart it let me play. I did not register with the Social Club however I did create an offline account while I was in-game. It let me save and everything. Edit: I have a near top of the line computer with more that the recommended setup but the game does not run very smoothly and I get very low fps in places that would seem very easy. I can run any other recent game maxed out, so does anyone know of a solution to this problem as well? Or the release date of a patch? menacepwr
Bump Anything, anybody!? I paid $50 bucks for this game and I can't return it to Steam, and I can't even play the damn thing! This is so frustrating...

menacepwr
Nothing whatsoever, but glad to see that someone else has the same issue. I would be less frustrated if I didn't get those few hours in last night. When you played was it the first time and did you get the error, or any one for that matter, when you did? Or at all before this? I don't know if you bought the game via Steam but if you right click the game in the "My Games" tab you can go to "Local Files" and try Verifying the game cache integrity... I saw somewhere that it might have worked for someone it wasn't very clear but if you got in on steam which it seems most RMN40 users did its worth a shot. Its been working for about 25 minutes and is 30% done so hopefully it catches something I'll post what happens... Got my fingers crossed! Edit: Game cache verified, 0 results. Error in the same place, same sequence, nothing changed. I'm out of ideas and out of patience, I wish I could return the game for a refund at this point. I'm calling Steam tech support of theres not a patch in a week at the latest. I've tried everything from getting new video drivers to replacing some game files to logging into and out of Social Club and nothing has worked yet. I'm tempted to try downloading a cracked .exe to see if maybe a different loader will work instead of the one in Steam but I doubt it will have any effect. leurch77
not the steam version... the issue isn't only for steam users:-)
menacepwr
Yeah I knew that it just seems people who bought it on Steam are experiencing problems more than people who purchased CDs.
leurch77
just try to launch the game in "windows2000 compatibility mode" and... that works i've edited the LaunchGTAIV.exe file directly in the game folder let see if it work longer than 10mins

menacepwr
Well I made a new topic might as well spread the word right? I gave you credit for the find but I think that might have been the problem... The normal run mode was set to XP SP2 when the game can't run in that mode, meaning maybe that was the problem. But if that was the case then why didn't everyone get the error code and why didn't R* catch such a simple slip? It seems weird to me but I'm in the game so I'm not complaining!
