Abel.
Does anyone have any driving tips or suggestions? I end crashing into everything , doing donuts and all over the place. Try to utilize the normal brake (S) as opposed to the handbrake (SPACE), try to apply the brake around corners, holding it down as you hold S. Hope this helps mate. Zengrath
I had a very difficult time at first. And it's funny because i been playing Grid Racing (not 100% realistic but still uses real life principles), and are a huge grand tourismo fan. But i couldn't get used to the fact you can't turn your car at all if your moving at any reasonable speed endless your braking.. which is odd because in real life you never turn and brake at the same time and if you are you are doing it wrong. Right now what i do is. I brake normal 'S' break just before a turn to reach an appropriate speed for hand breaking around the rest of the turn. However i have to barely touch the hand break in order to do a 90 degree or right hand turn or else i go waaay to far. Now I've only put a few hours in-game so far, so hopefully more i play the more tricks i'll learn for taking turns at higher speeds, etc. It's definitely a lot of fun driving in GTA4, however it's a world difference from realistic racing games, or GTA:SA
oldage
Don't use the old controls, new controls are better tbh. So for the new controls..... Go online in free mode, lock your game and go to the airport with a car you like. Start taking that huge corner, by drifting. (just go full speed toward the corner, when you are closer slow down and press both L2 and R2 + steer to your desired location)
Chukkles
You don't brake round the corner, you need to have a controlled speed before you get to the corner. I suggest (if you can) multiplayer racing, not GTA race. It'll train you up a treat. You need to beable to control your car before you can start flying round the corners with the right amount of brake and handbrake.
FiliGTAFan
I wasn't so good when I first got the game myself. You should just try drive around the city and practice on your turns around the corners. Eventually you would get used to it and be good at driving in game. SLUGFly
Here's what I've found. Hitting E-brake rotates you in the direction you're turning. Hit it just as you start to turn and turn light, you rotate fast and must release the E-break before you whip right around. Hitting regular break freezes your rotation. Hold it in to ensure you keep your angle and slide (and steer in the direction you want to go in). Releasing gas and accelerating will give you better grip on the road and push you forward. I still can't get the hang of drifting really. If this sequence of moves is done I often end up sliding in my original direction with only slight pull in the direction of the turn... but then I usually start at pretty high speeds Slowing down before hitting the turn helps loads. Celest
Does anyone have any driving tips or suggestions? I end crashing into everything , doing donuts and all over the place. Are you too handbrake happy? Try braking before a turn, and stop braking before you make the turn. This works well with the handbrake...and yes, you end up slowing right down to get around the corner but it beats doing doughnuts everywhere. Alternatively, as suggested, try holding "S" and turning, just remember to hold "S" to brake a reasonable time before you want to turn to slow you down enough. It's not as "fast acting" a brake as the handbrake ("Spacebar") is, but it seems to work well at lower speeds, and you can also turn whilst braking with "S" as well. Turning whilst holding "Spacebar" is a recipe for disaster, unless well practised and controlled. Seems to me, if you want to turn sharply with the handbrake you only need tap it...which seems to work just enough to turn the car through 90° and you can then speed off, but I've not mastered that yet! DJKRose
I found out that steering is not possible while holding S-break... you actually can see, how the front wheels block and of course then the steering has no efffect (or at least a hughe turning circle). Even though its realistic, it is also frustrating because when you reach a corner and realize you are to fast, you want to slow down using S and turn at the same time. That leads to crashing 'very controlled and slow' straight ahead because the car simply didn't turn. I also found out that there is a speed threshold which defines how strong steering is possible. Going under that value allows to steer hardly, going over it limits the wheels' ability to turn. You can see this on how your wheels are moving: Compare your max. wheel position when you go slow with that when you go fast (don't care about how the car moves... just look at the wheels). Now the problem is, that when you e.g. keep pressing D while falling under that special speed value, the wheel won't automatically turn harder. You have to release and press again. Also very frustrating.
