crowbar192
Hey, Like anyone else I've been wanting to play GTA IV for PC for ages. Anyway, I am able to start the game, and I had several moments where my game just freezes like that. And after 2 restarts, its normal. Ok, next stage: New Game. FAIL! After the intro and after 3 mins (or less), it freezes and makes a looping sound. Sometimes it crashes to desktop, and sometimes it stutters when I am not in the game but in the main menu and my mouse loops all around. I don't understand it, I tried several drivers, tried newest DirectX 9.0c tried changing page settings, tried several settings; from high to low to medium etc. I can not get the game to run normally for more than 3 mins. (btw ugly shadows :S). I tried the same thing on another pc I have, that has a 8800GTS (640mb) and nearly the same other settings as mine. That failed too. I am afraid I bought a game for usage of dust. Unless someone has any suggestions, I lost my faith. I hope a patch will come this weekend. My Specs: Motherboard: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Processor: DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 3,2 GHZ Memory: 4 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM Video Card: Asus GTX 260 TOP (896mb) (180.60 drivers) Sound Card: Creative Audigy 4 Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (SP3) Edited December 4, 2008 by crowbar192

Tomzzz8
perhaps it's a problem with .NET Framework, make sure you've got version 3.5 SP1!!!
Z28Crash
The game kept freezing up on me also, with that sound loop. So I started changing settings and then all the sudden it started running smoothly. In the nvidia control panel I set Page rendering to 8. In game graphics I set shadow to 0. For some reason it runs better at 1280 x 1024 then it did at 1024 x 768. I am running a socket 939 AMD Opteron 180 with 2 gigs RAM and 8800 GTS 640 MB on Windows XP. Here are my benchmarks. Statistics Average FPS: 30.71 Duration: 37.21 sec CPU Usage: 84% System memory usage: 76% Video memory usage: 62% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1280 x 1024 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: Medium Render Quality: Very High View Distance: 25 Detail Distance: 37 Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS Video Driver version: 180.48 Audio Adapter: NVIDIA® nForce Audio Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor
Lutra78
CPU Problem. I solved the problem with installing "AMD Dual Core Optimizer" and Microsoft NET.Framwork 3.5 plus SP1. Now everything runs smooth.
