samstar
i almost agree.. i have a great pc Intel C2Q Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz 4GB DDR II @ 800Mhz 2x 8800 GTS 512 running in SLI all that together on a nVidia 780i SLI board. The game runs ok. (yes ok, not good, not bad but ok) I would be verry disapointed when rockstar didn't say they gonna improove (or add SLI compatibility) i hold my thoughts when they release the first patch. now the positive side. the game is in every aspect better than his previous versions - Pedesterians and traffic move more naturaly - the game looks great! (i see potential that it will be running very wel on a good patch, with my hardware) - gameplay rocks! the movement of the people are verry natural - the cars! they beat themselfs with more lookalike real cars, with good movement! - F2 movie clip! to f*cking funny to make your own movies - it plays the same as the older games (keyboard configuration) i see great potentials for this game. sorry for my bad english! i'm from the netherlands and i do my best

Sycuss
The game has problems the first thing u want to check if ur having the no texture problem is to see if u have all four .net 1.1 2.0 3.0 and 3.5 if ur missing 1.1 u have to unistall 3.5 then reboot install 1.1 then reboot then reinstall 3.5sp1 and reboot. This fixed it for a freinds ATI rig yesterday now he is able to play while i am still stuck getting the RESC10 error.

Colton
Here's the smart thing to do, but you gotta act quickly ... Christmas is coming and deals are to be found on EBAY! Sell your GTA4 for $30 (yeah, take a loss - it's better than being stuck with a game that doesn't play on your computer). I'm going to sell mine ASAP and hope to get a decent price for it. Bob-o
You don't buy a car broken and wait for someone to fix it! stop whining they are going to release new recall parts for that car maybe and it might fix it
Mr Heckler
Patches are an excuse for companies to release shoddy and poorly tested/coded software. PC users get reamed time and time again because people can 'download a patch' ... now it seems that console gamers are starting to suffer this too as companies are more concerned with what beancounters and deadlines say... when they should be making good working software the highest priority. Anyone who suggests that people need to stop whinging and wait for the patch need their heads examining. We are the customer, the consumer and we want things to work correctly when we buy it. If any of you went and bought a new video card and installed only to find you couldn't use it... and we told to wait for the patch, could be out in 4-6 weeks but we're not sure. Would you wait patiently or take it back get a refund and by something that WORKS PROPERLY. Same goes for everything else, in this country we have a little law that states a item 'must be fit for the purpose sold' GTA4 does not fit that statement for a large number of people... and those people are entitled to a product that works as advertised and as intended. Sure there are going to be bugs and unexpected issues... but the ones being reported are so basic and it boggles the mind how they could have been overlooked and this software shipped with them still in place... Could it possibly be to meet a deadline rather than when the software was actually ready? I agree wholeheartedly with the spirit of this letter... and I share the OP's sentiments. I would also add the restrictive copyright and forcing your customers to be online to utilise the software properly, forcing you to create 2 accounts on 2 separate online sites just to play the game. I want a game that I can fire up and play, not be forced to jump through hoops and wait ages for it to check it's legit (which it still gets wrong occasionally). I am sick and tired of being treated like a criminal for buying legit software when those that pirate it can play free from these restrictions... I don't care about the online play and resent being forced to go through checks and logins for things I DO NOT WANT TO USE. 99% of every other online multiplayer game I have ever used over the last 12yrs have made this process quite easy, so use a simple 2nd exe for multiplayer, some make use of a very effective in game switchover. This makes me want to acquire future games via alternative means, it encourages people to commit copyright infringement (it's not theft, never has been and never will be)... all because some morons decide that copy protection is the best idea ever and it's been proved time and time again that the only people who are harmed and pissed of by it are those that BUY THE GAME. /end of rant
NightTimeHornet
Actually, I disagree with this letter. Yes, R* have made a mistake but are you perfect? I'm sure if your life had to apply patches it would be 1TB patches at a time, so give them space. They are at least rectifying it. They have a responsibility to help us but they are not forced. It is one of those things. What has happened, has happened so complaining makes it worse. In fact, if I was in their position, and I read this, I would wipe my ass on the patch. Now don't flame me, because you said we can disagree. lol wut? The OP may not be perfect but he/she is an individual. Comparing the OP to a successful entertainment software company is simply ridiculous. Individuals may exhibit flaws on their own time but loved ones and friends put up with it. A large company on the other hand takes money from people in return for a product, which is shoddy and inferior to other versions of that product that have already been released on the market. To reverse the analogy, if an individual is being paid to do a job, but constantly screws up, arrives late, and never completes tasks, they are going to face the consequence; reprimand and dismissal. The consumer taking R* to task for a product they are unhappy with isn't some interpersonal relationship bullsh*t, it's business! Now sure, a few minor bugs and hiccups are normal in PC games, but to have widespread performance issues across the spectrum of PC users isn't acceptable. The only salvation for R* credibility is to release a patch that rectifies these problems, and soon!

The only salvation for R* credibility is to release a patch that rectifies these problems, and soon! QFT. This is by far the biggest issue with this release. Bugs are acceptable, and can be patched-out once the source has been figured out, but the utterly woeful performance of GTAIV on most PCs is just inexcusable. There is no way in Hell they didn't know about these performance problems, and instead of acknowledging them, they're flannelling us with some crap about "future-proofing". Fck that - it should work on PCs available now!

Fck that - it should work on PCs available now! Right on! What's the point of releasing a game that will not work decently at the time it is released? that's the same thing as if some car manufacturer built a new car with an engine so advanced there is no adequate fuel to run it yet! Yet, on the car's specs list it says "runs on regular gasoline!" To me, it's just mind boggling and UNACCEPTABLE how a game producer does the same exact thing! "Oh yeah, we released GTA 4 now, but hey, don't play it until 2010 ok? thanx bye!" UNACCEPTABLE rockstar, just plain unacceptable! People buy the game an expect to play it RIGHT AWAT! Not in the goddamn future!
Voodooman
I agree with everything in 1st post... its really frustrated, 1st missing textures (that i fixed with new driver nvidia 180.48), 2nd HIGH settings not work and 3rd game slow as my turtle... Guys good luck with sending open letter, just dont forget to do it and PLEASE INCLUDE THEIR SUGGESTION TO DO SOME TWEAKS and release patch for BULLY SE, because its same terrible in performance and have glitchy shadows))
Colton
Reminds me of an old PC game that was like Jurassic Park. Can't remember the name, but it was cutting edge stuff at the time with physics. You could stack boxes and stuff. However, it ran dogsh*t slow on EVERY PC at the time and it was forgotten. I think several years later, someone actually installed it again and even with the newer graphic cards, processors and faster RAM ... it still ran dogsh*t slow. ECH
You know what, the OP is right about Assassin's Creed. You could actually tweak the NPC settings to increase the number of people on screen. In any case there was no problem playing that game and it's similar in style as GTA IV.
ShXIII
I completely agree with everything you stated. Good for rockstar for "saying" a patch is coming...... Why was the game released like this in the first place??? answer that first. They want people to fork out 50 dollars for a game then sit on it for weeks or even months to play it right???? I dont think so. Core 2 duo e8500 4gig of mem vista 32bit full updates GTX260 latest driver and im in the same boat, Im one of the lucky ones who got his money back from Gamestop due to a manufacturers defect. Nice job you f*ck holes!!!

The only reason they got away with that mess was to include a "bonus" when the player looked downward - a clear view of the ample cleavage of the main character. DeadlyAvenger
Totally agree with all those angry with this release. The bugs it has are MAJOR show stoppers. I bought the game and thus far have not been able to play it AT ALL. And just a point about this statement by Rockstar: "THE GRAPHIC SETTINGS OF GRAND THEFT AUTO IV PC Most users using current PC hardware as of December 2008 are advised to use medium graphics settings. Higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available." THEN WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH DOES IT SAY THIS ON ROCKSTAR'S WEBSITE: Recommended (for GTA IV) * Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz * Memory: 2GB (Windows XP) 2.5GB (Windows Vista) * Free Hard Drive Space: 18GB * Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870 Shouldn't that say: Recommended * Processor: Something not yet released * Memory: Something insanely huge * Free Hard Drive Space: See previous * Video Card: Something not yet released FFS Rockstar, if all you're interested in is making sh*tty console games, then JUST MAKE CONSOLE GAMES, don't even try at squeeze out some half-baked turd for the PC audience, we are NOT that easy to please (as you may have guessed). Many of us invest thousands of pounds on our systems, we look after them, we take pride in them, and you (and other major players - hello EA!) treat us like a bunch of pirating criminals.
