fonzo2000
Finaly, my GTA IV is working on my PC (don't know how). Just one problem. No Anti-Aliasing. I don't know if im the only one or if the game is built without an option to change the AA. But it's getting on my nerves so i'm just wondering if anybody knows if there is any way that you can change it. It would be Awesome. Peace!! Kurgen
Nope. So far there is no way to enable AA, either manually (via the vid-card's control panel) or auto, i.e. application preference.
marcus2769
I have an ATI 4870 (if that matters) and I too do not get AA in game. HOWEVER, when I jumped in multiplayer today I did get AA, and it looked like 2x. I noticed a big difference - obviously everything looked smoother and more appealing, but distant objects also seemed to be more out of focus than they are in singleplayer. Then I jumped back in singleplayer, where I had no AA

Not sure why it would be enabled in MP by default though...

According to the recent Rockstar interview, AA is a DX10 feature, and they didn't want to support DX10 WTF!!?!??!!?? Kevin Hoare: Early on we decided we weren't going to support DirectX 10. We were just going to work on increasing the visual quality with what we had with DirectX 9. If we had DirectX 10 support we could have had the AA in there, but we don't have any. http://pc.ign.com/articles/936/936304p1.html Does this guy know anything about PC gaming? What a loser. marcus2769
Oh I see. It had almost the same effect - in any case it made the game look better, hehe. I don't know if you guys see this, but one of the main things that look crappy for me without AA are the edges of shadows. They look all patchy and fragmented, but I guess that's to be expected. I might have enabled that blur feature when I was stumbling around the keyboard to find the chat button lol. So are we hoping for a patch that will enable AA now? Hopefully Rockstar puts someone other than Mr. Hoare at the controls who can actually figure this out...lol If so, I think this will be the SECOND patch in four GTA games (GTA III - GTA IV), the other one being v2 of GTA SA. Perhaps that's a good thing though, a sign of not having many mistakes to fix...or lack of the desire to do so xD. Anyway I can't wait for a fix . They no doubt made the decision to go for dx 9 because so few people were buying windows vista AND because dx 9 is more or less what the xbox has. In dx9 not all graphics cards (nVidia notably) will support both HDR and AA at the same time, so they opted for HDR. Since the PC is only about 10% of the gaming market... and only a fraction of that would have been able to use dx9 AA and they'd have had to build a completely new engine for dx 10, possibly an even smaller fraction, I can see why they made this decision. Many other titles, e.g. Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2 are (mostly) dx 9. Let's hope they do something about it in the future though. Shame Windows Vista wasn't 7 ...
