RJHNY1
I saw that in the readme about the directinput command line, but which file is it in? I tried looking around in the files, but couldn't find it. The readme doesn't state which file it can be found, unless the files I looked in already has it removed. RJHNY1
Right, but what is commandline.txt. I don't see any files or notepads with that name. That's why I'm confused.

roland1680
Does anyone have the PS2 fix files? the links don't seem to work and gta-experts seems to be gone. The first link still works (although you are correct, the gta-experts site seems to have gone down). But that's ok, you can get the .ini file in the very first post in this thread. It's located in the .zip file. The third file that held the graphics for the controller (also was hosted at gta-experts) seems to be gone too... but it doesn't effect actual gameplay so it really doesn't matter. pasie16
My problem is that I have a gigaware contoller and instead of using the the right anolog stick to move around I end having to use the d-pad. The game is mistaking that the d-pad is a right analog stick so I am wondering how can I make the d-pad the "d-pad" and the right anolog stick the "right anolog stick". mkey82
You are supposed to use the left to move around, not the right. Did you try editing the ini?

KMcWilliams
xpadder was a waste of cash. you bought xpadder what is freeware rofllmao ROFLMAO ? Really ? Xpadder hasnt been freeware in 3 or 4 years. The newer version, with all of the improvements, you have to pay for. So why are you laughing ? Seems the laugh is on you. BTW, I agree with the poster about the worth of xpadder, its a waste of money.
MassiveTime
I have just recently purchased GTA 4 for the first time and soon after found out that people have been having problems connecting and getting a controller to work. I have tried these ways here with my ps2 controller ( with the usb bay adapter that comes with it) and still a no go. I tried some of these links but a lot of them seem to be dead. Does anybody know the right way to get this to work? Playing GTA with keyboard and mouse just doesnt feel right . Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

RedOctober
Has anyone been able to get a joystick, (not a rumble pad, xbox, or ps3 style controler), to work in GTA IV? What I mean by a joystick is this: That's what I have and would love to use it for driving & flying instead of the keyboard. I have big hands and fat fingers, so xbox/ps3 style controlers aren't my thing.

bzl
Again back to the "triggers are only working digital" issue ... I use the xbox controller emulator (for all of you using the old version: this one has an easy to config gui now) with an old xbox gamepad with the newest version of GTA IV on Windows 7 x64. I virtually tried anything to get the triggers working analog, but they keep acting like digital buttons. In the test program they are working analog (0 ... 255 on each side). As for the "XNA Gamepad" registry hack: x360ce in compatibility mode should display that name to GTA IV, so that doesn't seem to be the problem either (in the registry there is actually no entry, because x360ce does that on the fly i guess). Right in this thread some people posted that they could get it working, somehow magically (at least they did not say exactly how they managed to do it). So if you use the xbox controller emulator (whatever version) it would be very nice, if you could quickly post which version of the emulator you use and what secret options convinced your controller to let you brake and accelerate analog in the game. Thanks!

Charlytos
Over problem with gamepads for gta4 pc there are many answers with different details. I put to continuation my personal answer over that problem. After to download the special patch to fix problem controllers: 1) Problem with left or right stick axis inversed. New gamepad acquired NGS Hawkins. Proved for right stick, on Panel control its directions works fine, but on game appears axis inversed. There on this pages several answers over this problem. I could to fix it so, only change X and Y values from xbox360cmu.ini file, not modify the minus sign. Fictional example for right stick: X=2, Y=-3, then change it so: X=3, Y=-2 and prove it with Test input file, works fine now for my gamepad. 2) Over files of special patch that must be put on Windows folder. Proved to make it so, Test input file recognize gamepad how connected but game doesn't recognize it how connected! Readme of this special patch to fix gamepad problem puts clare that those files must be put on installation game of folder. Then game if recognizes well the gamepad connected. 3) Change action buttons for other buttons. From xbox360cmu.ini file, change value button for each action. Example, action1 = button1, then change 1 to other button value. On same form for other buttons and save the file. After game will use buttons how was put on mentioned file. I hope that these 3 points put, let to other players to clarify and fix their problems over gamepad from gta4 pc.
Markk
Did anyone get this working with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro? I couldn't The program detected it and it showed all the mapping working, but it doesn't work in-game. I have directinput enabled. Charlytos
Eurolite, have you downloaded and applied the special emulator controller patch from first page? Prove to put disable direct input from game!... I had a thrustmaster gamepad, after a generic gamepad and very new the ngs gamepad, using the special emulator controller patch could play with those 3 controllers normally. Markk
Oh, didn't notice that. It's the XBOX.360.controller.emulation.zip with 4 DLL files inside right? I'm going to assume I put them into my GTA directory. I'll report back if it works or not. Edit: Works fine, I just need to re-map the controls. I know theres a config for it. But I don't know what name to put for a key in the config. Basically when you change the config, it changes which button will represent which button on the xbox 360 controller. I want to directly make my controller represent an action. Example: Current configuration: Button 1 (Joystick) = X (Xbox360) X (Xbox360) = Sprint I want it to be: Button 1 (Joystick) = Sprint The point of this is that the xbox 360 controller has predefined actions binded to it, and there are only two settings to choose from (Classic and Standard). Mostly it's for issues like not wanting to have esc binded to a key on my joystick, but have something like the microphone bounded. But the worst issue is how the yaw axis (for the helicopter) uses the keys (7 and 8) instead of using the twisting of the joystick. It can be changed, but on the xbox controller, the yaw is bounded to L2 and R2, which is not sensitive to pressure (or how much you twist the stick). It might be sensitive to pressure (I don't know cause I don't play xbox), but I can't find out since I can't figure out how to make the twisting of the joystick be bound to L2 and R2. Edit2: Got my PS2 controller working. Works better with IV, but there are still some binds I'd like to change, because I keep pressing the square to stop instead of X so I always exit my car while it's driving Edited October 16, 2011 by Eurolite
sirjareth
Thank god for this post. After 3 hours, trying every which way, I finally got this to work. IT works great, I can finally play the game. I do have one small issue I was hoping for some help on. I have a Logitech Dual Action game controller. It's built almost exactly like PS2/ps3 controllers. Right now, the Xinput Test software and in-game, are recognizing the D-Pad and Left Analog stick as switched. So my D-pad views and my left analog brings up the phone, etc. Is there a way to switch this? I looked in the .ini, and tried a few switches, but nothing seemed to stick. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you again for this thread, has been a huge help so far.

Pablos544
Best edit that link first: http://lcsteam.net/dump/gta4/XBOX.360.cont...r.emulation.zip I can hereby confirm that that second link works, whereas the first didn't do much. The link that works has 4 "xinput_XX.dll" files and nothing else. I advice ignore the one that has "xbox360cemu.ini" file as this seems to be a bit of a bogus!!
