I am playing it on 8600GT also, here are my specs:

Intel D930 3.0 Ghz

Gainward 8600 GT 625/1800 Mhz DDR2 256MB

OCZ 2GB DDR2

WD SATA II 7200 rpm 250 GB, WD SATA 7200 rpm 80 GB

 

Forget the benchmark, I had also an avg. of 20 fps on 1024*768 all on low, but when I play I get max. 19 fps (usually 14) so it's just unplayable. The game also looks horrible on low ( I can set some sliders on max and it doesn't change the image quality or the performance - for example the shadows ) and most importantly I can't set the textures on Medium because I don't have 512 MB on my video card !!!! I think Rockstar should have optimised the game more, I mean how much video memory has a XBOX 360 got ? I just want to play the same GTA IV that was launched this spring on the consoles not a version that requires like a Quad Core Processor and 768 MB of Video Memory to play @ Medium-High.

i have 2 MSI NX 8600 GTS cards in SLI mode, each card had 256MB memory, but as i have 2 my vram doubles.. the game only seez 256 mb.. and now im stuck at 1024x768 resolution with low details.. now i use 275 out of 256, so the game uses more than it should anyway.. my PC can do better than that, but the game locks any higher detail setting cause it wont see all of my vram.. that is frustrating.. i want this sh*t unlocked and max out my detail settings

I have 8600GT 256MB DDR3 and:

- if i run it on 1024x and the rest all low i get 20-30fps usually (depends from the place where i am of course)

- if i run it on 800x and the rest all low i get 30-40fps usually (depends from the place where i am of course)

Sometime fps goes lower than the ones i typed above... anyway you can even turn up Render Quality, Detail Distance, Traffic (i even tried to put Texture Quality to medium) and fps won't change that much but missing textures and these retarded shadows make it feels laggy (even with that fps rate)

 

My PC is:

E6600 Core2Duo 2.4Ghz

8600GT 256MB DDR3

Windows XP SP3

see majority of you are having a 256mb 8600gt.....but i guess it should be 512mb to get max output of this card......my laptop has 8600gt 1gb vram.....then i guess i can play it in medim with no lags provided shadows are turned down or off......any view on this theory ?????

I have never had the fastest machines and I thought myself lucky if I could play a game at 1024 resolution on all of them. Usually I game myself 800 res on my old pc with the settings at around medium - never AA!!! Newer games seem OK with my new laptop COD2 1024 is good - maybe 20fps

 

Now I have compared my specs to the required minimum (I meet them), the yoogamer test says I am well below par for minimum but I want to know what resolution most reviewers or test programs try to run it at? Everyone complains of 20fps and less; surely thats ALL I have ever been getting so wont bother me

With my NEW laptop (£600) below can I run the game at low settings and low resolution and hav it playable?

 

Bear in mind I run fear at 1024 online for smoothness, NFS MW at 1024 and Bully SE is just embarressing LOL

That's right, I have just finish playing Dead Space at 1680x1050 and the graphics were impressive, now with GTA IV looks like if it were 10 years ago!!!

I have an 8000GT 512 MB and a 5200+ X2, running Vista. I play at 1280x1024 because anything lower looks horrible, and on sort-of medium it's completely unplayable, FPS in the single digits. However I'm just about to OC my CPU and video card, plus do some general housework and then I'll post the improvements, if any.

Its a dell xp630i gaming rig designed to really be perfect for high end graphic games.Played crysis at its highest settings,unfortunatly it played gta 4 on pc like we're back to a voodoo 16mb vid card with poor quality to get the game to run fast.On medium settings its ok not great but ok.I think rockstar does a great job of trying to hide the tech support number.I can't find it on their website or their instruction manual.

You're hardly going to play this game at this stage with those specs. The CPU is far too slow, I'm having trouble with more than twice the frequency(2.7 GHz). Hell, even the video card is liable to bottleneck.

I have a GF8600GT as well, and the game runs horribly. But I doubt it's got something to do with my graphics card at this point.

 

My benchmark test result was similar to Devils Dog, what with the CPU and graphics usage and all that. Except mine told me to lower the graphics to LOW LOW and set all my other options to 1!

 

Odd when I can turn it to Medium and have minimal lag.

 

Rockstar f*cked this one up big time. They ought to have tested their game before they released it.

Well that sums it up quite well eh? Karma police bitch slaps my computer hardware wise but not by that much and he has to turn all the options way down to make it playable.

Maybe I can get 15fps with less draw distance or god forbid... moving to 800x600

 

The other comments saying its not worth playing less than 1600 etc... well most cant afford gaming rigs, myself included and while i prefer desktop gaming, I work on the ships and can't carry 30KGs of gear onto a plane to Hong Kong when a less pimp laptop will do a decent job of it; besides where would all my underwear go? lol

 

On a side note, its never been about draw distance or beauty in a game for me as i have never experienced it. Its all about good gameplay and entertainment and I bet GTA4 will have it in spades going by the reviews from the last year

 

Thanks for all your comments and help, lets hope the inevitable patch might improve matters for when i might get it after xmas

Seriously guys, you cant be serious. 8600 graphics in this game ? No way no how, this game is extremely demanding. How on earth you expect a simple 8600 card to render miles and miles with detail landscape like this ? 8600 is a card that is "ok" on laptops for office use not games.

dude this card is not just for office jobs......it can play all games from crysis to far cry 2 on above medium and high settings......this card can sure play gta 4 if it was well optimized and not crappy like it is.....8600 is in recommended for gta 4

8600 is perfectly ok to play games on. It can handle games such as Fallout3, Farcry2, GRID, Witcher, Team Fortress 2, Halflife2 all on medium or even higher. Hell it can even run crysis.

Totally forgot about HL2, bought the orange box a few months ago and all games run lovely and smooth at 1024 with basic AA. Of course that game is 4 years old but its all new to me and makes me smile.

 

For new games Gears of War runs pretty well on my 8600 at 1024, remember I have mobile GS version, everyone here has the better GT

I should get the game tonight, i think i just have to wait for R* to release a patch, or wait till a new system, i am planning to upgrade next year when the core i7 becomes affordable anyway.

My current system is a 8600gt 256 MB(the xxx oc edition, hopefully that gives a little more perfomance), e4500, and 2gb ram ddr2-800.

 

FTR i played Crysis Warhead on high on 1024x768, i played FC2 even on 1280x1024 on medium and on high at 1024x768 perfectly fine. COD4, COD WAW, not a single problem on 1280x1024 with everything on High!

 

If GTA4 was a proper port i think i should be able to play it on 1024x768 on low with traffic around 40, and texture/render around 20-30 and detail and view distance around 50 or something, i guess that would be comparable to Crysis and FC2.

 

Oh well, i guess we will see tonight, i will post a benchmark, but im afraid i cant run it smooth.
