GTA4 - modding ability

Smiler-Online

I'm using the DVD version, and the patch just makes the game crash just before it starts up (just after the command prompt screen pops up)

and after putting the original/backup file back, it still doesn't work... I think that I may have to reinstall it...

*EDIT*

BTW: I am also running on Vista x64....

PS,

just thought that I'd let you know, the Vista x64 install folder is as follows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV

I just wanted to say everyone who hasnt already,

Run windows update get all critical items, then update .net 3.5 with sp1 if you havnt already and finally get the latest beta drivers for your video card,

The game went from running like crap on the lowest settings to running like butter at 1680X1050 and med/high settings.

Well, back to modding :-)

made this last night, and i worked inside the .pak, made w/o the handling.dat

Btw Dysprosium's launcher works fine with me without modding any files but if I mod, for example WeaponInfo.xml, it crashes after loading the game. (after loading mission, or spawn..) Something wrong with my pc? Launcher? Or am I f*cking up the files.. (only changed 1 value, and I don't have to edit filelist.pak to edit weapoinfo do I?)

I managed to use a launcher and use the 'Rocket glock mod', but it crashes randomly at any given time confused.gif . I'm

using (surprise, surprise) Vista.

I did the Glock Rocket Launcher myself, without using the extract from that other guys WeaponInfo.xml

Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Here is the extract, I just changed the name of the model for the Rocket Launcher to the Glock one smile.gif

P.S Niko is holding the gun hilariously, you can change the way he looks at it by changing the flags. - it's good to experiment devil.gif

	<weapon type="RLAUNCHER"> <data slot="HEAVY" firetype="PROJECTILE" damagetype="EXPLOSIVE" group="ROCKET" targetrange="999.0" weaponrange="999.0" clipsize="5" ammomax="500" timebetweenshots="33"> 	<damage networkplayermod="2.0" networkpedmod="1.0"/> 	<reload time="33" fasttime="33" crouchtime="33"/> 	<aiming accuracy="10.0">   <offset         x="0.15" y="1.0" z="0.53"/>   <crouchedoffset x="0.12" y="1.0" z="0.05"/>   <reticule standing="1.0" ducked="1.0" scale="0.0"/> 	</aiming> 	<pickup regentime="600000" ammoonstreet="4"/> 	<controller>   <rumble duration="200" intensity="0.4"/> 	</controller> 	<flags>   <flag>GUN</flag>   <flag>HEAVY</flag>   <flag>CAN_FREE_AIM</flag>   <flag>ANIM_RELOAD</flag>   <flag>ANIM_CROUCH_FIRE</flag>   <flag>CREATE_VISIBLE_ORDNANCE</flag>   <flag>2HANDED</flag>   <flag>KEEP_CAMERA_BEHIND</flag> 	</flags> 	<projectile>   <typetocreate type="ROCKET"/>   <offset    x="0.54" y="0.0" z="0.055"/>   <rotoffset x="0.0"  y="0.0" z="-1.571"/> 	</projectile> </data> <assets model="w_glock"> 	<anim group="gun@handgun" meleegroup1="firearm_core"/> 	<effects>   <muzzle fx="muz_pistol_small"/>   <shell fx="weap_ejected_pistol"/> 	</effects> </assets></weapon>

I am adding a new feature to the DLL, which allows you to take screenshots using the print screen key (since there is no built in feature),

i will allow it to capture in .PNG or .JPG format, here is an example screenshot from the menu:

edit: @ khyshen, i actually just modded the glock settings, i didnt modify the rocket launcher itself at all

Cool man.

I'm just giving the guy another extract; hopefully it wont crash using that one.  biggrin.gif

I'll give it a go. You guys are GTA Modding pioneers, good work.

Let me reinstal GTA IV first (did System restore).

Haha thanks - 'pioneers'. But I just learnt from opium_addict, it is all common sense being honest with you mate, it's nothing hard it's just changing some variables lol.

Good luck with re-installing, I feel sorry for you taking all the time just to install the game.

I got it today and it took me 1 hour including all the updates everything, bit of a shame but hey!

I have released the new version which allows taking screenshots.

it works with DirectX version 9 only.

have fun! and use old versions if this does not work for you.

edit the "config.ini" to change the screenshot type from BMP to JPG or PNG!

and here is basically how it is coded for you developers out there

Well I just played a game of Hangman N.O.O.S.E and I had my AK47 which I changed the WeaponInfo.xml to have 1000 clips and ammo and it had the same effect in singleplayer and multiplayer.

Pretty cool, not sure if it might of been an option in the multiplayer server but doubt it.

oh so cheat protection fails and we all will have a destroyed but moddable multiplayer soon

Unfortunately yes. But hopefully R* will come up with a solution to that soon. One possibility would be to provide a separate directory for user mods which will only be loaded in single player mode. We'll see...

Well i was not aware of that problem as i never play the multiplayer modes.

this makes me sad, and the precise reason why i did not allow the source code to be released past 1.0.

(and also it was never my intention for it to work in multiplayer)

the future versions, if possible, will have multiplayer checks in them so you can not use them online.

Wow, I can't believe how dumb rock* was..

They actually thought their copy protection (the anti-mod portion) would hold up and didn't bother with online cheat protection?

That's so naive its almost criminal.

Now that we find out they're whole anti-cheat model is based on a client side anti-mod check I bet they're going to go way overboard with a patch attempting to remove mods and wasting everyone's time on a futile effort..

This isn't your fault opium_addict, its Rock*'s..

Thanks again and keep up the good work.
