sexmachine Posted December 4, 2008 Share Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) well like i wrote one of 20-30 tries the game gets past the copyright screens and then works very well until crashes ingame i have updated everything, drivers, netframe, windows live and social club my system: Q6600 @ 2,4 Ghz Ati HD4870 512 MB 4 GB ram Windows vista 32 sp1 i want to add that the funny thing is i can run the benchmark everytime and it will run until the end and before it exits crashes in pcgames review they said the version they tested, didn't work at all with the radeon 4870 shame on rockstar for not fixing it before release has anybody got to play this game with this videocard ? also aren't rockstar the biggest pussies in the videogame industry ? the had the best selling game at launch ever yet they shat their pants because of some pirates and we are the ones suffering through the ridicilous installation and registrations and i can't even play for f*cks sake Edited December 4, 2008 by sexmachine Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I worked around it and I just played 30 mins. of SP I have Ati HD4870 512 MB 4 GB ram Windows vista 32 sp1 just like you.. but a different quad > Q9550 @ 2,8 Ghz works smooths, not many reflections on cars and I think the shadows are 'splatter-ish' haven't benchmarked yet.. I have an hd4870 (512mb). my cpu is an [email protected], "4" GB of ram (xp32, so less) i Have experienced a few odd crashes. once in game upon stepping onto the street from roman's pad.. the other two times were in the menu system while I was rapidly going through options. I got some graphical corruption than a blank screen. I bought the ati card yesterday and that's the only problem I experienced.. Initially I thought it was a PSU issue... but it appears my psu meets the requirements. But to add... I am getting decent FPS at 1280x1024 with MED textures, HIGH render, 25 draw distance, somethin like 35 detail, some cars and some shadows. I'll post my benchmark results when I get home... actually immediately after benchmarking is when it crashed first which is what led me to believe the PSU was at fault. I'm asking because I had the same problem (crash after copyright screen), but on a German version of Vista. Switching to an English version (same PC, same drivers) made the game work for me, so I suspected it had something to do with the German Vista. I put in disc 1, got that gibberish autorun screen, started installation, half way put in disc 2, then on the end it asks to put disc 1 again to complete the installation. Somehow the installer didn't recognise the disc... after trying for a day I tried copying the installed files before cancelling the installation, and that worked. And my game crashed after i changed some Ati Catalyst 3d settings. After i changed them back, it worked. But then i tried to change them again (back to the first state, where it crashed) and suddenly it worked. Looks like a driver related problem for ATI cards. villin Posted December 4, 2008 Share Posted December 4, 2008 this is very preliminary info but when I had a few crashing issues, I updated my mobo's chipset drivers "intel 45" or whatever and it SEEMED to relieve the crashing issues as I was able to play for about 2 hours after that with no major slow downs (studdering pretty much all the time, but nice 30+ (guessing) fps) and no crashes.. Make sure ALL of your PCs drivers are up to date. I thought mine were as I had updated them before, but there was a newer version. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
