gpu memory rant - wtf?

Having a GF 7900 GS, which actually meets the minimum requirements, should be enough to run the game on lowest settings, right?

 

Wrong.

I've checked the settings and it clearly shows that the game only detects around 224-234 MB of VRAM. If it is the second one (234), it is possible to play the game (well, more or less, as everything looks more sh*tty than San Andreas, whatamisayin, even than Vice City). Otherwise, we get something like this:

So - no menu icons and subtitles, nice artifact crapfest etc.

 

Any ideas? I've already checked other possibilities, installed latest beta drivers from nvidia (even using that tricky option with cleaning drivers in safe mode), XP SP3, .NET framework 3.5, i think it constantly refers to the VRAM.

 

Yeah, I know my sh*tty rig is already more than 2 years old, but still, the game should be at least playable on lowest settings for f*ck's sake .
