Zach
I've heard that most people with issues on this game has problems with the 8800 videocars,... Really? I haven't read that. Thank God, or between that and all the other negative posts, I probably would've waited until the patch to purchase the game and would have missed out on the hours of fun I've been having. In a word, it runs great for me. Here's the benchmark log from the benchmark I ran yesterday: StatisticsAverage FPS: 38.66Duration: 37.12 secCPU Usage: 77%System memory usage: 93%Video memory usage: 75%Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 1600 x 1200 (75 Hz)Texture Quality: MediumRender Quality: HighView Distance: 70Detail Distance: 100HardwareMicrosoft Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 3Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTXVideo Driver version: 178.24Audio Adapter: SB X-Fi Audio [9C00]Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz Note: Since then, I up'ed the "View Distance" to 90 to maximize my "resource memory" usage bringing up to 696 MB / 732 MB. That only cost me a couple of FPS: StatisticsAverage FPS: 36.10Duration: 37.17 secCPU Usage: 82%System memory usage: 91%Video memory usage: 74%Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 1600 x 1200 (75 Hz)Texture Quality: MediumRender Quality: HighView Distance: 90Detail Distance: 100HardwareMicrosoft Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 3Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTXVideo Driver version: 178.24Audio Adapter: SB X-Fi Audio [9C00]Intel® Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
Sub12
I think the trend should be not "8800 or 4850 how does it perform?" but "E8400 or Q6600 or 9950 how does it perform?" I have a 8800 GT, E2140 @ 3.41 GHz, and it does me 25fps at medium texture, highest render and the other details around the 20% mark @ 1280x800. Because of my dualie. If I had a quad, I bet I would be pushing 40 fps.
nicotin3
Im seeing a trend here with people on XP getting better performance, wich isnt all that surprising .
MMhardKy
Like sh*t. I have 2x GTX280OC and it runs like sh*t. A proof of bad coding is, that I get almost the same (sh*tty) performance in 1280*1024 and 3840*1024 (I have a 3x LCD setup), yet my CPU (3.82GHz C2D) is not the limiting factor here (in the benchmark it says 77% CPU load). Anyway, I get ~40 fps average in the benchmark which, and that is what most people don't realise, means 20-30fps in the game, sometimes even below 20!!! Everyone claiming their game runs in "buttersmooth" 35fps because that is what they are getting in the benchmark, try FRAPS and tell us how much fps do you REALLY have while playing. quackdor
I have an 8800GTS and the game runs fairly well, not sure of FPS, until about 5 minutes of playing where the framerate suddenly drops to like 10 per minute. I have to kill the process to get out of it. My first reaction was overheating. I checked and all the temps are fine. I'm running XP, I have 3.25GB of memory, no other applications running and CPU,(Athlon 64 X2 2.6GHZ) is idle when not playing the game. I play Crysis on mid to high settings with no issues and GTA IV actually does work fine until it bogs down like I said. I dunno, there will be a patch soon, I hope. Zach
Everyone claiming their game runs in "buttersmooth" 35fps because that is what they are getting in the benchmark,... Stop being a troll and spreading FUD. I couldn't give a rat's ass about benchmarks. Benchmarks are generally only provided to give some tangible evidence to the reader that the claims being made are real and not purely subjective. I wouldn't have stated that the game runs great for me if, in the ten hours I've been playing so far, I had been lagging and stuttering all the time, or even some of the time for that matter. D3lta
Game runs decent on my system. I get about 25-33 frames with Texture quality at High and Render quality at Highest. To be honest, Render quality makes absolutely no difference on my frames no matter what setting it's on. View distance is at 27. Detail distance is at 30. Vehicle density is at 35. Shadow density is at 0. I'm going to overclock my CPU to 3.0GHz this weekend. That should definitely give me a boost in performance, and hopefully Rockstar releases a patch soon. Zorgus
well, here goes.. it runs... its playable, but its not enjoyable... purely because i'd got my hopes up of it being the best pc game ever.. the frame rate is lousy on high..., the reflections are crap, shadows look terrible... and everything looks boxie... if you get what i mean

In the spirit of full disclosure. just now for the first time it started raining (in-game, I mean ). I must admit for the first time the game did get a little laggy while I while driving around once it started raining. I don't have FRAPS running, but I would guess I was probably getting only 12-15 FPS during this.
SharoFFenstein
Hi I have a 8800 GTX card here with core 2 duo 3,0GHz and 4 GB og DDR2 Ram, and it's running fine, well some laggy some times but good enough... I am running in XP (32bit) pro sp3 I am playing at 1280 x 1024 (60Hz) (my stupid screen does not allowing any higher of res) I runned 75 Hz before, but it became a bit more laggy, so now only 60hz I have my aspect ratio on auto (if it means anything at all?) texture quality is on high & render quality is on verry high My view distance is only on 20% but it's fine Detail distance is on 100 (highest) & the same for Vehicle density Shadow density is on 16 (highest) My resource usage is 736/740 MB And I don't know how to find out what fps I have in game, maybe with fraps, but I don't want that creapy app on my PC.. personally I don't se the biggest difference between my xbox 360 GTAIV graphics and PC graphics, just love the game, to be able to play it with a keyboard and mouse XD and some mods to wait for in future... But I guess that if I upgrade my CPU, it maybe becomes less laggy. Anyone have done such upgrade for the same spec before? any difference to see? cheers

I lowered that to double the default, i.e., 50/74, and the lag during the rain went away completely. I just finished that early mission where I was being chased by 10 cops and was racing all around the island trying to lose them, all while it was raining, and I had no slow downs, lag, or stuttering whatsoever. ImoonPeople
Hey I'm posting my benchmark for my system with an 8800GTX here http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1058709589 and now I'm going to test with a GTX280 in a minute so I'll be back with those results. Please post on my thread if you have any questions or would like me to do something while I have this card for testing.
13th_Disciple
Run well here on my 8800GTX vista32 1680x1050 AMD x2 6000 - 4G ram... i have a very playable 30FPS+ go's up & down, but all in all ok... You have to tweak, turn clip-capture OFF, set nvidia control panel (pre-rendered frames =1) medium textures only for the best FPS - 180.60 drivers It's reasonably fast... i expect those with better cards & cpu's would be doing well also.
