4870 hd x2 woe's resolved - nearly

hi,

 

am running vista 64

quad core 6600 go @ 2.4

8 gig ram

4870 hd x2

 

installed gta iv via steam - ran at default settings on the catalyst 8.10 drivers & preformance sucked - i dropped a few gfx quality settings, switched off the capture feature and got a bit of a preformance boost out of it but nothing to write to my new eastern european momma about

 

installed new ati drivers and it runs way better at default settings - get a bit of a delay when leaving the safe house where frame rate gets kinda choppy it some textures are missing or messed up, but give it 10 sec and thats resolved - the frame rate isnt as high as i'd like to see but it's certainly VERY playable

 

still crashes quite frequently tho so far this has happened when i've saved at the safehouse & when hitting escape to go to the options - but thats way better than the slideshow i was getting yesterday, i've not got time to test this but i guess lowering the shadow quality a bit and the detail distance will get some pretty good framerates

 

default/auto settings =

shadow density 10

 

memory usage 990ish / 1007

 

overall play experiance pretty smooth with the odd moment where it gets a bit choppy
