Chroniss
Can I disable this glowing bloom effect? It gives it a horrible "console feel" and I gaurentee is a big part of all the slowdowns caused by this game. Plus it doesn't render correctly on my ATI card, its pixelated and distorts the objects. The game would look so much clearer and run faster without this crap turned on, but theres nothing about it in the options.
Chevyboy
If I recall what you are referring to can be toggled on and off by pressing "p" while in game.
Chroniss
Whoa I didn't know about that, it makes everything blurry when I press P. That looks horrible! Also thats not what I'm talking about, I want to remove the glow effect on pretty much every object. It's not rendering correctly and its very pixelated, plus its everywhere so I can only imagine how much of a performance hit that is. I have the latest ATI drivers too, I had old ones and it was doing this, so I updated but that changed nothing.
Chevyboy
Hmmm not sure then. I think I've seen screenshots of what your talking about and when I press P mine looks similar (blurry and pixilated) but its possible there are other issues. Have you played around with the catalyst menu? May have something turned on there that is causing it? And ya, if they are shadows as the person below me mentioned, they look pretty bad even on max settings
PolarisX
Im not 100% but i think those are shadows, i only noticed that when i put everything on low settings, but yea theyre heavily pixelated shadows . . . atleast thats what they look like to me. Chroniss
Im not 100% but i think those are shadows, i only noticed that when i put everything on low settings, but yea theyre heavily pixelated shadows . . . atleast thats what they look like to me. The shadows are similarly pixelated, and render incorrectly as well. Disabling shadows would be just as good as removing this glow effect. Is there anyway to turn them off? It looks like this no matter the settings I use, the entire game is shrouded in this pixelated glow and badly rendered shadows. I hope Rockstar addresses these graphical errors in a patch, its not a driver issue thats for sure. I was using 1 year old drivers and I finally updated for this game, it made no difference. My cards an ATI 1950xt btw. I had a similar issue in Mass Effect (The shadows worked fine in that game though, just the glow was the same), but no other games. Edit: I will update with some screenshots in a moment... Glow pixelation Improper Reflections Look at the headlights, and the outline of the police car, it looks extremely ugly in motion. The time of day in game is not showing the bad shadows well enough, I will have to try to get a better shot for that. NecroViolator
If I recall what you are referring to can be toggled on and off by pressing "p" while in game. THAT doesnt turn Bloom OFF... Thats some other crap thing ingame for more blurry gameplay... Oblivion has Bloom/HDR that you can turn ON/OFF and there you will see the difference... IF people could turn Bloom OFF their games will win at least 20 - 40 (50) FPS more... Should of used OpenGL... I STILL dont have my damn game yet, been screwed over by a company here, and still waiting for the game and THEN I will create some GFX tweaks for everyone... (if possible)... Havent seen the game files yet...
pylb_etajv
You mean they should've hired Carmack to port it on Rage's engine ?
Chroniss
Heres a pic that shows this stuff is everywhere, not just light sources. Look at the edge of the pavement in this pic: sidewalk glow It doesn't look like much in a pic, but it moves as I move, so its very noticeable when in motion and is on the edges of most surfaces in game. Also look in the background, everything is pixelated, almost all of the game world has this blurry glow...the graphics are just wrong throughout the game. I'm not talking about the lack of anti-aliasing, thats another issue. This is just poorly implemented bloom and shadows thats ruining the look of the game. I really wish I could just turn this off, you can turn it off in every other game...why not this one? Edited December 4, 2008 by Chroniss
algenon_iii
Chroniss - I've got a 1950pro and I've noticed it myself. Don't know whether to call it a pixelation or dithering effect. Actually it reminds me a bit of what happened when I used 16bit instead of 32bit in VC. To be honest it don't bother me that much as they don't occur all the time. It's not game breaking, but the reason I want it off is I know this would give me a large performance increase without it. Bloom glow always requires lots of processing power in games and I don't want it, but I cant get rid of it. I just want them to add an option to turn it off, unless someone knows of a way to do this already?
iRocco
That and no AA makes me sick, the game just looks damn old and ugly!
MontyDKogege
VERY INTERESTING I`m the owner of an ATI 1950GX and have EXACTLY the same problems as described! But it seems like it widely all over the board people´s got problems. I´ve played FarCry 2 and Crysis cranked almost fully up (execpt for the shadows) - both games kicking a**. Been waiting for this game for ages, and they don´t fool an old rat like me, who can´t even get a proper game running at 800x600 - this game has not seen ANY optimization. If we don´t get a patch kicking this game up to todays standards it´s an abolute scandal...
Vhajev
Heya. I looked at these pics and just thought "they look really old or created with an old card/old driver". But the game I'm playing looks completely different. I don't have all this "overlightning" and "pseudo-blur". It just looks nice (aside from the edges on some objects and the shadows). I think it's not a buggy "feature" you're encountering - just a lack of support from your driver or something. So I don't think there's any option in the game to fix it - the game/driver itself needs to be fixed/updated. I know - it's easy to say for me, cause I don't encounter these problems .... but it seems you have to wait for a fix.
NecroViolator
Bloom/HDR OFF = Extreme more power for gameplay... OpenGL HUGE GFX increase, better all round... Rockstar Canada = CANT PROGRAM !!!... And they say Bloom/HDR is next gen... Retards dont know that its NOT next gen, its just a CPU eater... algenon_iii
Hmm, looks like it could be a x1950 problem. I wouldn't mind gaining a few extra fps either. I hope C* will fix it in the next patch and just let us decide what we want on or not (some people want max fps others want max quality).
