fjl
According to Rockstar, the retail version has unlimited installs. But the Digital download version, Steam or Direct 2 drive has a limit on installs. What exactly do they mean? I can only install so many times? I can't install simultaneously onto two PCs? If my windows crashes and i have reinstall and re-activate, I can only do this so many times before I have to buy it again? What is this limit they are talking about? Boycebrush
Steam has unlimited installs. I think there's a limit on the amount of times you can download from Direct2Drive, but that's not Rockstar's decision, nor am I sure on the exact number of times... you'll have to find that yourself. fjl
Thanks for the quick reply. I have a question about the steam install, can I install it on one PC then disconnect that PC from the net and still be able to play the game?
bp2018
I would assume so, steam has always allowed offline play after the game has been verified as legitimate. (I say always but I mean after the first few months where you had to be online to play) Im not sure what they will do when it comes to multiple steam installs so just wait for a steam user to come looking at this thread. fjl
Well I'm split between buying the retail version or steam version. I'm hoping that since the retail version does support offline play albeit registering through a second PC that does have internet connection, it's simply a cdkey that is entered. So eventually they will make a cdkey generator so I can do multiple installs as long as I keep that PC disconnected from the net. But if Steam can do unlimited installs, will I be able to install it, then allow my bro to install, will we be able to play it at the same time, single player at least? You can do multiple installs from the retail vesion normally however you will need to have the DVD in the drive in order to play. Using a key generator in order to play two copies at once is the same as pirating a second version and is not condoned nor allowed to be discussed here. As for playing singleplayer together that is done via the internet ,so you would need to be online at the time, I dont think it has LAN support. (correct me if im wrong anybody)

One advantage of having the Steam version is that you won't need to have your DVD in the drive constantly. Also, yes, you can play offline. I'm not sure what Steam's policy's is on such a thing, and the what with the whole DRM thing, you may have some trouble.
