Moorchi
After getting past the MMA10 error by logging out of social club I then proceeded to click play and watch the opening cinematic, but then it freezes, the image becomes speckled and the same tiny clip of sound that was playing just before the freeze repeats to make a humming sound. Cntrl+Alt+Del has no effect after the freeze and then I have to reboot my PC. I have tried skipping the opening cinematic, but the freeze happens soon after anyway either during the gameplay or in the menus. Everything else seems normal and I am running on the default recommended settings, I also managed to do the benchmark with an average of 33fps. I have updated all of these to the latest versions and freeze still happens: -Newest Graphics driver -DirectX -.NET framework -Windows LIVE -XP Service Pack 3 -All essential Windows updates -Cleaned Registy These are my system specs: -Core2Duo E8400 @ 3Ghz -ATI Radeon HD4870 512mb -2gb 800Mhz RAM -Windows XP Pro SP3 I would appreciate any help anyone can give I have been so looking forward to playing the game!! EDIT: Problem fixed, graphics card bios needs to be flashed and updated, see this thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=379602 Edited December 5, 2008 by Moorchi
Gibbo3771
I was looking forward to playing this game also , i have a lower system spec than you and i got like 40fps average on the benchmark but i get like 10-22 in game, 22 being the max regardless off how high or how low i put the graphics. theres plenty of people with the same problem as you, i can get it too start but it runs like sh*t, others can get it run smooth but the graphics are all screwy, and others just cant get it going at all Im just going to wait for a patch if there is ever one. i suggest you wait it out lol, keep an eye n the forum tho, some people have made little discoveries to get it running a little smoother with tweaks and stuff, most likely we'll all figure it out before rockstar even realises they f*cked up. peace bud

Moorchi
Aaaah, so it looks like its a problem with the graphics card then! Well at least we have narrowed it down to the source of the problem, that gives me some hope let's just cross our fingers that ATI releases an updated driver soon that solves this problem with GTAIV! se7enofnine
isn't life great ! just installed game after prolonged "do this do that process" and it freezes few seconds into intro as boat approaches the city , screen goes what i would describe as blocky with minature speckles and a distorted humming sound. Unable to get out of this problem by usual ctrl alt del or windows input, simply have to reboot PC try again and surprise surprise, same result , yep life is great ! especially since im still unable to play other game bought recently Mass Effect, incredibly its the same errors with it, blocky speckly freezing screen and humming sound !!!!! i guess its all my own fault really , i shouldn't have bought that new PC 3 weeks ago , with pretty decent specs and all the latest drivers etc etc skillfully hand built and tested by a leading online retailer intel quad 9550 ati 4870 512mb 4gb ram vista 64 i got £170 of argos vouchers today from works xmas draw , anyone recommend buying a
Moorchi
I started regretting my decision to become a PC gamer at first also, but have faith this problem will be fixed my friend! Also in my game, if you skip all the cutscenes wherever possible untill you get to control Niko, once you get into exploring the city it no longer freezes, so you can drive around and explore for a while without really having to worry about freezing (as long as you don't try and do any missions or anything). But maybe this is just in mine. Anyway i am as pissed off as you are, but surely this will soon be fixed! No point in shelling out for a 360 just yet and having to pay to play online

Neorg
Hellow, I hade the same problem with my ATI4850 512 . After playing for about an hour game freezes. But i think i have found the problem. I installed NET.Framework 3.5SP1 Went in to the game and Turned off VIDEO CAPTURE. Now the game runs fine. (I have some prooblems with the shadows, same as everybody). I think the problem is in the VIDEO CAPTURE.
