It's a neat feature, but the way you record clips kinda sucks. You have NO IDEA how long the clip will be, some clips i've saved have been like 40 seconds, some under 2 seconds.

+1

I like the auto record function as it lets you catch moments you may not be thinking about..

But, I would like the ability to 'Start' a recording off and then end it.. That way we could set up scenes, shoot them and know it's all been captured.

Is anyone having issues uploading videos at any point.

I keep getting 'Upload Failed' when hitting the 'Upload' button. It did this last night but then suddenly started working.

The thing is, it doesnt seem to do anything to determine a failure it just instantly fails.. Really annoying.

I imagine there will be server issues from time to time but the quickness of the failure is strange.

I was able to fix my upload issue by re-rendering. It then uploaded fine.. Weird.

I've just uploaded a new video - let me know what you think:

Grand Theft Carnage

https://tv.rockstargames.com/videos/view/id/D90EF681344EABE1

Pretty sick but shows off Euphoria nicely and I learnt yet more in terms of using different angles etc. Really enjoying this.. smile.gif

Playing with the video editor and swing glitch. I recommend clicking the video and playing in HD smile.gif

Holy potato, nice recording. loving the camera effects and all the movements you did. I laughted at the end, epic landing biggrin.gif

For some reason my first video didn't record the particle effects (explosions, guns muzzleflashes...)

No HD there, rendered in 'web'. yawn.gif

@DUP ... nice use of music icon14.gif .. that swing set, its obviously something R* wanted to be like that, if it was a bug its the only one I WANT to see left in the game colgate.gif

I love the way your car pings of with that sound at bullet speed. Just leaving some dust trails and the feeling of " notify.gif " ????!!

Great.

Im currently uploading 2 new videos I created over the weekend, one a chase scene (action) and the other is a little more hardcore with assasinations. Ive tried to capture the cinematic feel like the rockstar ones and mood with the assinations .. deffo 18yrs plus, all synced as best I could to selected music with titling. Ive pushed the editor with lots of camera work and ways to do things .. and pulled up bugs and lots of crashing and tweaking ... alot of time and care spent on them too.

Will be fully up soon and will be on R* / Vimeo / Youtube plus a download link to the hi res WMV ... up soon.

You have NO IDEA how long the clip will be,

... I do find myself pressing F2 knowing that the next 30 seconds or so is the start point, thats the best way to look at it.

Looking forward to seeing your new vids Monkey - especially the car chase one. I keep thinking of how to do car chase in the style of Hollywood movies (bond etc) but not quite sure how best to stage it yet.

Did you get a chance to check out my latest.

Good way to look at F2. I like that.. Hit it and then give yourself 30 seconds to get your shot.

Still a shame you cant put it into record mode though, even if it just recorded 45 second clips constantly - the equivalent of pressing F2 repeatedly.

Nice work as always Monkey.

I particularly liked the chase movie - you used quite a few new techniques there with the text and the city scrolling at the end.

Felt nice and frenetic. It's not easy to film a car chase I don't think.

I liked your assasin one as well although the only thing I'd say is it felt more like random killings without any reason behind them.. Rather than say, hits on particular people. I think a proper hitman style video could be really effective.

Great filming though. The last killing was brutal as anything and worked really well in the way you shot it.

Good to see you create longer movies with many clips in them. That's something I haven't really done yet. I find it can be quite tricky to plan all the different clips and link them together effectively. You can really see why storyboarding is important in real film making. smile.gif There is so much potential though with multiple clip sequencing.. I've been thinking of ways to shoot some action scenes using a number of different clips but sequencing them together to create something that looks like it was shot in one take.. Using certain 'tricks' to create an overall effect.. I'm going to start experimenting with some car chase shoot out's as I have one particular effect I'm dying to try. If I pull it off it should look superb and is someting you cant actually create just by playing the game..

I agree with some of your points. I have also found one bug:

If you drive a taxi with such an advertisment thingy on the top, and it falls off, than you get one 3rd advertisment stuck diagonal in that thingy along with the other two. Just check it out yoruself so you know what i mean. (dont have to render the vid to see it, just replay it by doubleclicking it in your gallery).

random killings without any reason behind them

The one outside the club was a random killing smile.gif The others were beat ups, and also targeted. Wanted to show the dark side of the game the best way I could.

I've been thinking of ways to shoot some action scenes using a number of different clips but sequencing them together to create something that looks like it was shot in one take..

If you check out my chase scene again its just that. One is at night, the other is again another separate chase in the day, and if you look real close, a completly (but well selected to hide it) different car biggrin.gif Where it comes in saying "Never give up ..." is the binding between them, I was going to have "several hours later" but didnt make sense.

Trick is to get a clip. make some edits you like, save it, then copy and paste, that retains the marker then you just shift its start point (trim its begining) further on and then carry on using some different camera views.

Another little tip is if your un-inspired for shots simply select "target" and scroll through the available targets, sometime it will flick to a ped or car you never noticed in the scene with a nice wide angle shot. Then all you do is switch the mode to "free" and the camera will stay in that position it picked with that particular target, then you can set the camera better.

Im working on a new one, but may wait untill the games patched with new vdieo editor updates. Lets just say its going to highlight the pure darkness of the game.

Another bug is clothing, I have a capture where im wearing glasses, yet in the clip in the edit I have none.

LMAO, brilliant! That is just what I was thinking about.. It's like in real movie making, you can revisit the set to do a reshoot and then edit it in so noone notices. With my 'Look before you jump' video I had the situation where Niko ends up being killed by the guys attacking him, so through some quick camera changes I was able to make it look like he had got the upper hand and then I filmed a shot of him running away...

Lots of cool tricks we're learning here..

+1 on the copy and paste idea.. I think the key to this is segmenting a single clip into many smaller ones and using them intelligently.

Looking forward to your next one Monkey. Did you get a chance to check out my latest - Grand Theft Carnage (link on the previous page). Very sick but a very rich clip in terms of what was going on.. smile.gif

Thanks for the great thread GTAMonkey, might be a stupid question but I need some help adding audio to a long clip.

When I am in Storyboard mode I have a number of video clips lined up to make one whole movie how do I get the song I choose to continue throughout the movie. It plays for the first clip but not the following ones. Does that make sense?

I thought perhaps you could also line up a number of songs to play through the whole movie but when I drag a new song over it overwrites the previous one. Thanks for any light anyone can shed smile.gif

Man oh man, I just went outside (in the game) and it was full raining which is ok on my rig.

So I turned on video capture option, walked out and walked along the road to get some street in rain shot, when I press f2 it brought my system to a 1 frame per 5 second nightmare and never recovered and then bombed out the game LOL.

Top tip when its raining and you capture - lower setting before hand even textures. Also that game save I have means when I walk out its raining so another tip is if you weather is what you like save to a different slot and make note of it is, then you can load an then know what weather is. For me this game save slot wont be overwitten becuase I know it gives me rain when I go out.

Thanks for comments, yes thers alot of "free" camera in mine that standard and the use of "merge" between targets using in&out to smooth motion of camera, im very much into timing and pace and camera work.

Hopefully a mod might come that runs over GTA so we can switch weather cycle like the one in GTA SA.

Right, merge is the function I need to look at then.. Superb.. Will give that a go tonight when I'm editing my amusing parkour inspired movie.

Great tip on saving the conditions you like to film in .. Brilliant idea.. Same with time of the day maybe.. I've been thinking that sometimes it will be necessary to 'reshoot' some scenes in a video to add stuff before and after a clip you've edited. Would be good to be able to quickly load up the same kind of time frame as the original movie so things match up better..

A way around this is set up an online game with all freinds slots maxed out, you can then control weather, traffic and ped density individually as well as time of day. You wont get any greifers joining you either that way as you can select the no joining game in progress option too.

Just wont have Niko in the starring role. sad.gif

You can unlock all the MP clothing with some quick modding as well so you can still make some pretty individual characters.

The multiple clips is a good idea, similar to what you would do using MS Movie Maker.

So far it seems your limited to just the one track only, ive added in requests for it to be more and to trim music to use more in a sequence. Unless someone can correct me.

Anyway .. the only thing I can think of is somewhere along your clips you have a marker in the "sound" section with music set to low or "0" which unless you had another clip after setting to music back to more than zero it wont bring the volume back up. Or ... its a bug so just exit and re enter the editor (after f6 saving of course).

Also note that music can sometime slip out of line at the moment (bug) so when playing back to make sure you seeing and hearing things exactly as they shoud be always return to the beggining using the <|| key to kick it up the arse then press play, music then syncs again. where most of my stuff is trying to actualy key to the music (not easy) this is a niggle for sure.

Also that assisinate vid is now on social club : https://tv.rockstargames.com/videos/view/id/77D16CEC5CA7E3D5

"at the moment" social club tv seems to be working quite fast and normal, maybe they fixed a few server things, I tried to upload this 3 time yesterday all failed, today was fine.

Hey, nice snappy camera work there mate.

You got an eye for the shots mercie_blink.gif ... the bit I like is the first moments the pan to car, pull back and swing to and pan to where the cars about to jump, like that alot.

One tip, when in slomo or anything less than 100 percent remember you can in markers turn "voice" to 0 so you have all effects but to realy Slooooooooooooooow shouting voices or talking you cannot make sense of, although its good with screams etc. UNless you wanted that way.

Anyway nice work mate, nice n fast devil.gif

Why not add the music in later with Movie Maker, you can add in multiple soundclips and text transitions that way too.

would certainly work for YouTubing but don't know about uploading it to the Social Club.

I really like the idea of using multiplayer to setup a real movie 'shoot'.

A guy is asking for actors in another thread which sounds pretty cool. If you had enough people who all shared the goal of creating a decent film you could create some amazing sequences.

I had the idea of creating a James Bond type car chase with multiple 'actors'. You could have various players setup at sections on a set route, then film each scene as the main character drives away and defeats the attackers. Then more join in the chase.. Would be brilliant..

I think once patch arrives with new features in the editor and fixes, and people get use to it more, some real nice 10 min epics will start to surface. I know for sure I want to take footage from the editor to Vegas Pro to work on something too but wont go too mad utill things are patched up.

@Nico_MCSE ... nice vid, nice lead in with titles. I notice the renderer also captures helis with no rotor moving on yours, and some issues with shadow casting. I always tuen shadow density off just incase of glitches when rendering wonder if that plays a part? Hmmmm. Nice vid anyway sir.

As I said previous im making a proper random shooter short now, and its not pretty. After that Im going to try out some comedy ideas too.

Funnily enough I've not setup an online Live account yet, but will do that later and let you know.

Did you get a chance to check out my last two vids? Ignore me if you did but didn't have anything to say.. wink.gif

Would be interested in your feedback. I need to re-render them really as I use a low contrast setting which results in a dark video when rendered. Will do 720p versions as well and setup a YouTube channel like yours - a great idea btw..

Look before you jump,

If you still tweaking id say as they jump (the ones following over the wall) as each are hitting the ground pan in over or near them at the impact moment at about 75percent to highlight the smack on the floor with each to make that moment more snappy. Also as niko look sback to them theres along moment of slomo doing nothing, so maybe a quick marker added to nikos face shot, then there faces, then back to that shot as he runs into them, just to break the flow.

Also when he picks a fight and its in slomo i'd say mute the voices between those moments using "voice" = 0 but keep effect on.

Another tip while im thinking, as long as your not using a merge section between markers (as that can knock out the feel of the movemnt ona camera shoved in between) you can add one in between with voice to full, one after voice = 0 etc etc to kind of mute bits too which helps. If you want something heard and the rest cut but all other effects on.

Thanks for the feedback Monkey - really appreciate it.

I agree with everything you said about my look before you jump video. When I made that one I didn't know you could do camera transitions etc. I was just focusing primarily on the fixed camera at that point. Since making that one I use the transitions alot. It's interesting how my whole perception of films has changed.. When I'm watching them I'm constantly aware of the angles, cuts and pans being used.

Good idea about the delay after they all fall down. I like the aesthetic of that shot with Niko upright and the fools flat on their faces but I do agree it lasts a little too long..

Muting speech is a good idea on those slow mo's for sure.. apart from when those guys hit the ground.. In that scene the sound of them screaming out in slowmo is really funny.

I haven't played with the merge transition yet. Can you explain exactly how that works and where best to use it?

Heh, GTC was one of random moments where I jacked a car and just drove off. When I hit all those people it was one of those; "My god that was amazing and will be incredible in the editor". Pretty sick editing that one.. Over and over and over.. heh.

Regarding your last post about this not being an ego thing for you, I don't think anyone see's it like that. Your post represents the best kind of posts on this forum. Onces where you start a topic but also bring a lot of value to the table, while encouraging other peope to contribute.. We need more posts like this.. Keep up the good work.

Check my first post I cover all that, this will probably be because of ram used. With hi res (I have 2mb ram 896vram) I get them same most of the time, simply shut down, go back in at at the main menu set you texture level to "medium", then set draw distance so that you free up ram say about 1-200MB then your clear of the issue.

Remember here that R* are fixing memory issues and updating and adding feature in the patch so Im hoping it will use resources better after. All my HD ones are medium textures so it looks ok to me, I normally only export high texture render with "web" option for Social club, and even then make sure I leave about 100-150mb left in the settings by setting draw distance becuase for me in vista it simply crap out with unexpected error.

If I free up some overhead on render for web using high textures / or set medium textures for 720p res I have no issues.

Merge is like a simple smooth transition between 2 points, you can use in/out to get a swing motion into a position then out of a position i find blend is good for smoothing angles movements and linear is good for straight movements/motion which also has in/out ... think of a linear curve and apply that to a "scoop" speed motion to a camera.

PS - check the fist post there's a link to the manual (and I think its on disc1) that explains each one more fully.

Im making a shoot out scene in the hospital at the moment making it like it was captured on CCTV, linear is great for that.
