Kupal, have some dignity to feel sorry for those who are less fortunate with running the game. 'cause problems can pop up no matter what, if it would've happened to you, you wouldn't have been any calmer than they are, so if you could shut up, noobscake... it would be great.

As for the last few people who are still having issues, contact the Rockstar user that's hanging around in this Forum, send him a personal message, and try to be less "anti rockstar", because they wanna help you, it's just something that got screwed up, so don't bash them and let them help you. I understand you're mad as hell, but control your anger, and ask them directly and calmly about the problem.

This truly is pissing me off with this stupid Social Club. Rockstar really screwed us over on GTA 4's PC version. I feel sorry for the people who bought this game - truly do - as I was able to play it and I will explain how soon. Microsoft really needs to bug off with their crap, as does all this Rockstar crap. I'm sick of infecting my computer with this Microsoft Live crap, no wonder this game requires a QUAD CORE CPU, with so much crap running in the background, I'm not surprised. Why can't this be like COD4, Counter-strike, and ANY normal freaking game out there... buy your CD key and use it for online, BUT NO - need to make like 3 accounts, need an online activation code and a serial code. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Yet this game has been cracked, with ease. In only 2 days, with their expensive protection crap.

Now let's make this clear, there is NO difference what so ever between the pirated version of this game and the retail version.

I use a WinXP 64bit OS and as you know the maximum you can go is SP2. I've tweaked it and removed many crucial software components for maximum performance (I mean who uses even half of those services). GTA4 is the only game that didn't run and ONLY because of this DAMN social club crap. My laptop however, was NOT tweaked and nothing was removed, while services have been disabled, RGSC worked perfectly. (this states that it's clearly something I removed that caused the problem).

So how did I get to play the game? Well I installed WinXP 32bit SP3 (I hate having 2.75GB RAM, especially when this damn game requires so much of it). I installed NOTHING but the drivers for my computer, firefox, and GTA4... letting GTA4 install framework and so on. This way I got RGSC to work, therefore the game worked.

My goal is to help you people fix the problem, I am no longer playing this game, I rather have a super fast windows than a slow one with GTA4 on it. This is why I buy games that Blizzard, Valve and 2K makes. They don't rip you off and work without any other software. I'm not buying games that are poorly designed and are slow even if they are the best games ever (for example: GTA4). Clearly, a game with graphics like GTA4 requiring a QUAD CORE, we have a problem here with the coding. I have the best Dual-Core on the market (E8400) clocked at 3.6GHz and you're telling me a Quad clocked at 2GHz will run the game faster? Pfft... Crysis has much better graphics and physics yet runs perfectly on my system. Games should NEVER rely on a CPU - but on the GPU, that said - a dual core should be more then enough for any game without crap clogging it (AKA Microsoft Live). I'm dissapointed Microsoft, stay the hell out of our games.

This is my 2 cents, trying to explain how I solved the problem and... complaining I guess. Thanks.

I had to rush to create an account to be able to post but I think I may have the answer. I had the same problem too but through some experimentation I went ahead and set the compatibility. Try right clicking on on your rockstar games social club and go to compatibility. then change it to windows xp (service pack 2). I manage to social club working on mine. If it works for you then be sure to send a reply. biggrin.gif

angry.gif Hi all, i got to say it worked when i tried it in vista 32 with sp1. But now after several attempts installing xp with sp3 and net 3.5 fresh with all the right drivers RGSC won't even load !!!!

I have tried for days !!!! I don't want to run it in vista, i prefer xp for gaming as you get about 15-20 % more speed.

What pisses me off is i spend 30 quid on a badly coded game what wont work.

I fix computers and build them, test them etc and have over 10 years knowledge yet this is the worst game i have ever come across to play.

I am happy now and here for you all check the thread if you having a RGSC working problem and you use xp pro and nvidia driver set 180.84. biggrin.gif

my problem is that this error appears every time after I restarted my computer... to get rid of this error I need to repair gta4 and reinstall rockstar games social club..... EVERY TIME as soon as I restart my system... this really starts getting annoying... can someone tell me how to solve this problem please? Í'd like to play right away after my system booted..

edit: moreover i cant log into my rockstar GSC account (probably because it's not updated... but it also doesn't update automatically) I can only play in offline mode at the moment..

RGSC has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Yeah right, sorry my ass.

Ive reinstalled windows and the game multiple times and i still get this crap.

Wow, seems like this is the most common problem...

Glad that there are ppl willing to help us out.

ANyway, I have got the same issue and did EVERY POSSIBLE thing listed on here that solved others' game but it did no good to mine.

On the first install, I did:

- installed XP SP3

- updated all updates

- updated JAVA (just in case...)

- updated adobe flash

- installed GTA IV

- double clicked to start RGSC = no response

- double clicked GTA IV launcher = no response and I had 5 clicks on the mouse before the computer locks up and makes a beep sound (it's always 5 clicks)

Then I did the following attempts:

- removed .NET until 1.1,

- installed 2.0

- reinstall XP SP3

- downloaded from the R* site, the RGSC installation pack with .NET 3.0

- installed that

- RGSC has the common error now upon a double click "RGSC encounted problem and had to close"

- double clicked GTA IV launcher = no response again + 5 mouse clicks quotas before locking up

- restarted and reinstalled the game and RGSC

- same errors

- installed .NET 3.5 SP1 = same errors

- attempted to DELETE the game from Add/Remove

- Uninstallation process comes up but PC locks up within 5 mouse clicks

OK. I really ran out of ideas. Really hope someone can help me out. I can't play the game now nor remove that 14GB off my HDD!

OK guys, i had this problem for a long time too. after trying everything in this thread to try and fix it (and i mean EVERYTHING), i decided to give in and re-install my XP. i didnt install any programs. i did all of my vital drivers, then i did all of the updates, including SP3. then i installed .net framework 3.5 SP1. this has solved the problem. what happened to me im guessing is that i had problems installing framework 3.5 on my old install of xp. folks, it doesnt hurt to format once in a while and if you want to play GTA 4 i reccomend it. just do all of your updates before installing it. thanks for all of the tips and information, and good luck!

Ok, I think I just fixed it smile.gif I had a similar problem with another .NET application I recently upgraded and this application actually gave me an error message to work with. During my search I came across a thread explaining a similar problem as with that specific application, and it was suggested that I installed Windows Imaging Component. Apparently, this is already in Vista or Vista users don't have any problems with this, but this thing should fix his problem and there were no more posts so I assumed it worked.

I installed the WIC and my application worked again smile.gif Now just being curious, I started RGSC and I got the login screen! After not logging in, it decided to bitch about games for windows stuff not being up-to-date yet but at least I could start RGSC. It's installing that stuff now so I don't know if the game works yet but at least I hope this much helps.

Here is the download link for WIC: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

By the way, I have XP SP2, not SP3.

Edit: Yay, the game also works! Too bad it crashes somewhere during the intro movie but that was to be expected on my laptop, it's way too slow.

Edit2: Skipping the intro movie gave me a couple of minutes playtime, though after driving to some guy's house it'd go out of video memory on me. At least I could drive a car for a bit smile.gif

I also had this stupid 'social club encountered...' problem and I was playing around to fix it yesterday for 6 hours with no luck, but today I decided to give it one more try and voila, it worked!

here's what I did:

I reinstalled my graphic card drivers to latest update and restarted. After that I still got error, so I unninstaled social club and re-installed it to a new folder on my desktop (thanks to a guy a few pages back for giving me this idea), re-installed .NET framework 3.5 sp1, then I reinstalled the game and lauched social club and finally I got no error and it works now!

If you'll try this I hope it'll work for you, but make sure you're not running your social club icon in 2000 win compatibility mode, because if I do that I again get an error. good luck with it!

here's link from where I downloaded latest drivers (8.12) for my ATI graphic card

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx

if you're using nvidia update to 180.84 and use this link for it:

it could be, but I know when I unninstaled sp3 and tried to play it on sp2 I got this error as well. I have sp3 now and I got it to work with installing social club in new folder on my desktop (it could be the problem is in social club itself) so, I suggest you to try this method I described in my previous post. I hope it'll work for you. smile.gif

Ok guys, Not sure if this will help anyone else, but I've managed to get social club working. What I did was go to the first disc's directory of RGSC > Redistributable and run the .net installation for x64 (I use vista ulitmate x64 bit, so this may only work for those running this OS)

After the installation, i went to Programs and features > turn on/off windows programs > checked ALL THREE folders under the Micrsoft .NET framework 3.0 tree. Beforehand, only "XPS Viewer" was checked an on, but checking the other 2 folders along with it was all i did, and now social club runs and hasn't crashed.

Games for windows live works now too, no crashes so far...

Testing GTA IV...

Ok so this is a fresh install this go round, so after signing into gfwl via the in-game menu, i was prompted that there was an update for GTA IV. Installing now, says it'll probably need to restart... Will post results again after update. So far so good...

everything works fine after update. It seems the problem everyone is having has something to do with the .NET framework update windows update installs. I'm now able to load everything, save my game, and reload my game.

Only problem I notice now is my framerates are low... game seems very choppy now compared to the lats time i had installed it and had it working... even with most all settings turned down to low... not sure what that is about, but hopefully i can figure it out...

If anyone knows anything about this or has a similar problem after getting the game to work again please post any info about it...

2 remove all frameworks from your computer

3 install only framework 3.0(you can find it in the folder:redistributable,donetfx3.exe)

This is not correct. Look in the FAQ for proper .net installation.

I have done all the recommended fixes, sp3, .net3, installed the social club patch, same problem every time. I launch social club (which I cannot right click or left click its icon in the taskbar without my computer locking solid) on my STANDALONE machine and encounter problems EVERY TIME.

Needless to say my confidence in Rockstar went from a 9 to a -12/10. Why is it that you retreads couldn't make a game work on a computer? Why did you have to make a piece of garbage named SOCIAL CLUB to f*ck up my computer but only if I run the F*CKING piece of SH!T?

I'll say this slowly in capitol letters in the hopes you retards come up with a fix, I HAVE NO INTERNET ON MY COMPUTER, EVERYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH INTERNET HAS BEEN DELETED OR DISABLED (EXCEPT THE ORIGINAL INSTALL OF IE BECAUSE WINDOWS DOESN'T LIKE ME DELETING THAT). NO ETHERNET PORT, NO WIFI ACCESS, NO SYSTEM SERVICES RUN THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE INTERNET.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WILL YOU FIX THAT PIECE OF SH!T YOU CALL 'SOFTWARE' TO RUN ON AN OFFLINE STANDALONE COMPUTER. HOW F*CKING HARD IS THAT????????

For the record my machine has a 32 bit version of xp.

EDIT: Yay, I fixed it. No more lockups, and uninstalling the old .net frameworks was also stupid. You can't just uninstall the 2.0 framework, you have to be a f*cking engineer to remove the old one. I guess that's why even microsoft opted to just leave the old version there.
