While I thank R* for paying attention to the issue, and the issues of players overall, I need to report that their solution for this one did not work for me. I did a fresh install of the game tonight (my third overall), downloaded the 3Mb fix first and applied it. Tried to execute the game; error continued to pop up. Next, I downloaded the full 200+ Mb fix, ran it three times (first "repair," then "modify," finally, remove/uninstall/reinstall) and still no change. Additionally, I've tried running the SC from the new folder it created and I've even tried to use the fix found above (the "Regional Settings" one) and found that neither of these corrected the error as well. Currently, I am running .NET 2.0 and 3.0 (OS is Windows XP 32, SP3). I know, I should run 3.5 but I downloaded/installed that a couple of days ago and it appeared to severely damage my system (as in "suddenly the computer had an extremely uncomfortable lengthy boot-up that included bad clicking sounds from my HDs and rarely ever making it to my desktop and when it did make it to Windows magically did not detect the presence of my 2nd HD despite my BIOS and power cords saying differently") and I wound up using "System Restore" to get any solid functionality back. While the 3.5 SP1 update may not have been related to my parenthetical issues, since they occurred after installing it, well, let's just say I'm wary of d/l it again. In short - is there something I overlooked? Did I use the R* fixes wrong? Sorry this post is a bit long but after four days and 12 hours of my life (forget the money involved to upgrade and then but the game, time/life is more important) spent solely to trying to even get this game to start up - I'm a bit frustrated and angry, to say the least. EDIT: I just noticed this and wonder if this has something to do with it - I checked the "properties" of "RGSCLauncher.exe" and it says that the version of the file is 1.0.0.0. The 3Mb fix's output folder reads "1_1_3_0." I'm assuming then that the fix then updates the launcher to v1.1.3.0. However after applying the 3Mb fix, both "RGSCLauncher.exe" and "RGSC.exe" (in the fix folder) still read as v1.0.0.0. In other words, did the fix even do anything? If not, why? EDIT: This full install package is a joke right? It only contains .net 3.0 that is already installed on vista pc's with sp1. Install it and if you have vista with sp1 then go to www.microsoft.com/downloads and download framework .net 3.5 sp1 and install it. if it doesnt work, check your windows updates for new updates, it first didnt worked for me, then I found a missing update and it finally worked. thanks rockstar!!! You need to run both GTA IV and RHSC in compatibility mode, but with different settings! Run the following in Compatibility mode with "Windows 2000" \Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.exe \Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe Run the following in Compatibility mode with "Windows XP SP2" \Rockstar Games\Rockstar Games Social Club\RGSCLauncher.exe \Rockstar Games\Rockstar Games Social Club\1_1_3_0\RGSC.exe I did that, and it worked.
