has anyone tried reinstalling the OS?

First of all, are you nuts?

Secondly, yes, someone did that. The question is, how long will it work.

For me GTA4 worked fine at first. Since the second day RGSC refuses to start. It updated itself again, after I reinstalled the durn thing, but it won't start.

I don't see a point in reinstalling the OS. I even tried installing the RGSC on all 3 computers I have in my house, and no luck.

Ok, I was trolling through the steam version of gta 4 and I think I found a solution to the damn "rgsc.exe has encountered..." thing that I also have right now. Go here to the steam GTA 4 forum thread. Good luck everyone. Almost forgot, go here also for a "GTA 4 troubleshooting for Dummies" thread on what to do on other problems, it's a savior.

I have GTAIV at home, working so-so. I can play the game (after consulting from people on these forums for some minor problems).

MY only problem on my computer now are, what seems to be, memory leaking in the game, resulting in horrible lag whenever I play single player for a while, or the instant I try to start Multiplayer, making me get kicked out because of "my slow machine".

Enough of my computer.

My friend has a much better computer, better suited for Grand Theft Auto IV. So I figured I'd log into my account there.

Then I get this "RGSC needs to close" error as well.

Let's narrow down the problems, shall we? It's not the RGSC installer that's corrupt, I used the same installer on my computer as on my friends who live on the other side of town.

There's gotta be something about the .NET frameworks. Or maybe the Service Packs.

Does anyone know if you can "repair" a Service Pack?

EDIT: Try the above advice, it might just work for us who bought it in stores as well.

FOUND A FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what you need to do if you have:

- SERVICE PACK 3 FOR XP INSTALLED

- .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5

and GTA IV still dont work do the following:

1. Download a .NET framework unistall progam (google it, I used ''Clean up Tool'')

2. Unistall RGSC, .NET Framework 3.5, 3.0 and 2.0. SEPERATLY, and restart your pc after each unistall

3. Download .NET Framework on 2.0, install and restart your windows.

4. Download .NET Framework 3.5 (NOT 3.0, NOT NEEDED!) and restart windows.

5. Install Rockstar Games Social Club

6. Start Rockstar Games Social Club!!!!!!!!!!

WARNING: IF YOUR PC DOESN"T FUCTION WELL AFTER DEINSTALLING NET FRAMEWORK, THAN IT'S UR OWN FAULT! IT WORKED FOR ME, BUT BE SURE YOU MAKE A DECENT BACK UP OF IMPORTANT FILES!

well, tried it, and now i'm stuck with NET FRAMEWORK because that stupid Clean Up program f*cked everything up, i can't uninstall it, and i can't install it, and i certainly can't use it. So I'm gonna try the tip of the guy a couple of posts above, reinstall the OS, don't really have a choice now.

You need to unistall it twice, after unistall 2.0.

Than you can reinstall everything!

can't uninstall it at all, it gives me this error, and then it disappears from the lists at the software.

and in the "add or remove programs" i have the 3.5SP1 but have no option to repair or install it, it's just there with no option.

Unistall the 3.5 with the ''Clean Up Tool'' if the progam gives a error, than try it again. Then he will say ''success'. Now the 3.5 version is cleaned @ software (the 3.5 NET framework can also be deleted with the ''add or remove'') after you've done that delete 3.0 NET framework. If clean up tools give a error, just try it again. Untill it's deleted. Now delete 2.0 with clean up tool and after that download 2.0 at the official microsoft site. Install it, than download 3.5 @ microsoft site. Install that 2.

there are no longer NET FRAMEWORK versions listed in the Clean up program, and in the add or remove, I only have the 3.5 SP1 and have no options, it just stands there, as if it's installed, and i don't have a repair or an uninstall option, it's just there for display. and when i try to install some of the frameworks, it just gives me an error because of the files.

well just to add my 2 cents i've noticed that only the updated version of rgsc.exe crashes - if you re-install RGSC and disallow internet access when starting GTA (i unplugged the cable for example) then rgsc.exe will fail to update and will remain in the original form that doesn't crash ( at least for me)

otherwise i've tried installing and un-installing pretty much every combination of .NET - currently i've installed v3.5 SP1 (which also installed 3.0 sp2 and 2.0 sp2), disabled the .NET runtime service and still get the problem

this is the error i'm getting in eventvwr.msc when trying to launch rgsc.exe:

EventType clr20r3, P1 rgsc.exe, P2 1.0.0.0, P3 4934965e, P4 system.workflow.runtime, P5 3.0.0.0, P6 488f1219, P7 41c, P8 5b, P9 system.platformnotsupported, P10 NIL.

I was getting the same error when I clicked on Launch GTA4.

But clicking on RGSC wasn't giving me the error.

I started RGSC, let it connect to the net, get updated and created an account (WTF! I just want to play the game! What's this Social Club BS?!!!) and now it looks like it works.

FIX.....

For those of you who initially set compatibility mode on your rgsc.exe and rgsclauncher.exe that worked for me last night but today when i went to play the rgsc.exe crashed. I removed the compatibility mode on just those 2 files and the game worked fine again. I hope this helps i tried everything on the forums from installed .net to reinstalling social club, and this i just tried on a whim...

Good luck.

Any updates?

I have the same problem, rgsc.exe crashes upon starting it showing the following information:

EventType : clr20r3 P1 : rgsc.exe P2 : 1.0.0.0 P3 : 491dd2bd

P4 : system P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4889de7a P7 : 3906 P8 : 1be

P9 : system.invalidoperationexception

Tried everything described in this thread nothing worked.

Also tried the solution described here:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/show...d.php?p=8607223

Although this seem to have worked for some people it didnt work for me.

System:

Windows XP SP3

.NET 3.5 SP1 (reinstalled several times with no result)

AMD 6000+

Nvidea 8800GTS

Rockstar Toronto

Can someone try unplugging their ethernet cable, then trying to run the Rockstar Games Social Club application to see what happens?

I'm getting really frustrated confused.gif I know Rockstar are doing everything they can, but is there even a slight possibility you'll get to the bottom of this problem? and find a way to fix it? I'm not asking you to magically fix it, I'm asking if you think that with time you might will be able to find something out.

I've got a fix.

I uninstalled both Service Pack 3 and the one non-security update that came with it. I then restarted my computer, opened my RGSC folder. Instead of running the .exe in the root folder (directly in the Rockstar Games Social Club folder), I opened the 1_1_1_0 folder and ran the .exe in there. And it worked.

I don't know which of these steps made mine work, but if you try some or all of them you might get to play!

Get back to me if it works!

You may need to run the game without an internet connection. I did the first time, but now I can run it with my net enabled.

dude, there is no 1_1_1_0 folder, as in it was never fully launched to update. And we tried to disconnect the internet already. confused.gif

I got it working in Vista ultimate sp1 following those instructions linked above with one slight difference

I stopped and disabled both of those framework services and uninstalled framework 3.5. Then I installed framework 3.5 SP1 and rebooted my PC. After that I re-instlled socila club. Didn't work. Then I (luckily) decided to try one last thing. I removed social club again and installed it in to a different folder instead of the default one and it started to work. I just couldn't believe at first but this just proves that in some cases it is good to try everything that comes in your mind. biggrin.gif
