ShooterSix
Hello, I tried using search, but it gives me an error. My question is: Everytime I start the game, my graphics settings reset, forcing me to change the resolution, etc etc. Anyway to make the changes stick? Shadow-Link
I've got the same problem it's really annoying. Are we the only two people having this problem? Does anybody know how to fix this?
Officer_Dufus
Well the second time I started up the game is today, and since the servers are down.... I don't even think you can access your profile! So your graphics settings may be saved under your online profile. I think it is damn crap you can't even load a saved game without logging on. Why the hell did they do it that way?
robixxx
Had this problem also, I used nvidia beta drivers.. changed back to the normal ones, now it's fixed GTAIV is full of strange things really, we need over 9000 patches
ZodiacKiller
Delte the rockstar folder from my documents. Save game is stored elsewhere.
:DRX: ¡EyE!
Greetz; I have the same issue and I've tried WHQL drivers and beta drivers, but still no luck for me; my setting are reset to the auto-configure settings every time I start the game. I sent an email to Rockstar support about it and if I fix it; I will advise. The game is bad ass, lol! Out; EyE
Craigybabes
Hi guys, same problem here - but have a solution. This is Vista and folder may be hidden; if so check: Control Panel > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders. Navigate to \\[uSER]\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings and delete 'SETTINGS.CFG' Run game > Set options > Quit game. Whether Set options > Play game > Quit game would upset this method I don't know but mine are set. Enjoy.

Craigybabes
My pleasure. Although it is worth noting that all your control & audio settings are lost as well Best solution available for yet another R* 'dirty port'. Almost feel like buying an XBox. kionna
thanks !!! this worked for me too!! i think it's because windows live stores your settings and having the local settings file messes it up

slowrider
Works on XP too, folder path is slightly different though: \Documents and Settings\**WINDOWS-USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings Thanks! That's messed up because there is no Rockstar Games folder in my app data folder. you sure? i managed to find it, though i am curious as to what the other three files are meant to do. one of them is labelled serial so that is being left alone. megahustler
That's messed up because there is no Rockstar Games folder in my app data folder. Strange. Sure you're in the right folder? Important: (EDIT: This is for XP) The path is USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games NOT USERNAME\Application Data\... There are two Application Data folders (at least on my system), for some reason... Edited December 5, 2008 by megahustler
Fallback
Thx, helped me as well. Now I can finally reduce my resolution and this really reduces the glitches and lags.

Hanneswasco
Not working at all I have an offline account. My laptop is a bit crap so it can't go online anymore. So, you haven't installed the patches? I think that if you install the latest patch for GTA IV, the graphics settings won't reset. Try to install the patch from Rockstar's site, here. If you have can't go online on your laptop, you can put the patch on a memory stick or something and then install it on your laptop.
pat30724
I have the last version installed. But it still resets the gfx every time
mkey82
I have the last version installed. But it still resets the gfx every time Go into one of the corresponding folders Windows XP SP3 C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\SettingsWindows Vista C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\SettingsWindows 7 C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings And delete all the files in there (there should be three of them). Don't delete anything else, just the settings.
