ZodiacKiller
Here an interesting bug i found for the people who cant get the -norestrictions switch to work. Sli MUST be disabled the first time it is set up. For some reason if sli is enabled the switch is ignored by the game. Add the switch, change the resolution and settings to whatever you want, save, quit, and re-enable sli, it should work for you then. I found this out the hard way after installing the 180.70 beta drivers...hopefully this helps someone...

SaitenMar
I can't even get it to add -norestrictions in the first place. No idea why, Vista just won't let me. Other games have in the past but it won't for GTA4?
ZodiacKiller
Not sure if youre running crossfire, I've only had SLI over the years. *edit*....just tried the 180.70 drivers, unlike the 180xx these drivers require you to run the -norestrictions with the gta4 sli profile set to single gpu. As before set this, load the game with the switch, set your settings, save, and quit. Go bcak to the SLI profile and now set it to Nvidia reccomended and turn on your sli again. Everything should be gtg...oh and btw the 180.70's allow me to run 1920x1200 with everything maxed with no texture problems (all high res and there), now framerate on the other hand.... SaitenMar
Oops! My fault, found out why it wasn't working properly. Your right, it doesn't work straight away you need to disable SLI though where is SLI? can't see that in options anywhere?
SaitenMar
Also where you get the 180.70 Beta drivers? Looked at Nvidia and can only see the 180.43 Beta Drivers? Thanks! EDIT: Nevermind, mate just sent me a link to them.

SaitenMar
I really don't want to sound stupid but I see no SLI option in my Nvidia Control Panel? I'm guessing this is for all users not for those actually with SLI systems? or am I confussed! I shouldn't need to do this Rockstar!
ObsessedWithGTA4
I too, cannot add the -nonrestrictions command line. It seems Vista and the DRM GTA IV PC uses prevents you from editing the .exe file. I wonder if in safe mode you are able to do this?

I wonder if in safe mode you are able to do this? You need to create a shortcut, go to your desktop and create a shortcut, then browse to your launchGTA4.exe and create it. Then right click and properties then add the -norestrictions That's what I was doing wrong aswell

SaitenMar
Nevermind, I just tried it and it's now working with no restrictions. Time to have a mess about Thanks for the help ZodiacKiller! Appriated! btw, for those stuck. Download the Nvidia 180.70 Beta Drivers from the link above and restart and it should work. I was trying before I installed them and I don't think that was the correct method. You need the new drivers for it to work.

Officer_Dufus
I have an ATI X1950XT and I added -norestrictions to the "target" for the GTA4 icon on the desktop and it still isn't getting rid of the graphics restrictions. This target is correct, right? "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions

ZodiacKiller
Found the fix for that too. Just go into my documents and look for the rockstar folder and delete it and relaunch the game with the -norestrictions command. it should fix it for you...good luck
