Can anyone explain to me exactly how to get this WORKING! or if it even works haha i actually think that was me trying to spell -norestrictions which will do the work you're looking for. it just happened to actually sound good with the little mistype i did and i guess i never bothered to edit it. so yeah just put -norestrictions as a command line parameter to your launchgtaiv.exe and it should work fine. gina78223
Now i tried that, are you saying it worked because i either A. Did it wrong and it works or B. Just plain is...wrong This is how my target "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictionslooks and it doesnt work, Edited December 3, 2008 by gina78223
dr.whiz
it has definitely worked fine for people using the retail version of gta iv. if you got yours on steam or direct 2 download, i'm not quite sure what executable to add the paramater to since im not sure how the game is launched. dr.whiz
okay as requested step by step, just to make sure no mistakes are made. 1. make sure you have the retail version of the game. this game is launched by the file LaunchGTAIV.exe file located in your install directory. 2. If you don't have any shortcuts to this file, as in a file on the desktop or in the start menu, create one by right clicking on the exe file, and select Create Shortcut 3. Right click the shortcut you have available, select properties 3. Go to the Shortcut tab in the Properties window 4. In the Target path: text box, make sure the path to the LaunchGTAIV.exe executable is present and surrounded by quotation marks. 5. Insert -norestrictions at the very end of the text box leaving a space between the quotation mark and -norestrictions 6. The value in the textbox should now look similar to this: "C:\Wherever your GTA is located\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions 7. Save the shortcut and use this to start the game, by double clicking it (the mouse will give a way a "click"-"click" sound if you master this finger command). and if this doesn't work then i can honestly say i have no idea why it isn't since it's worked for plenty of people. spectre01
Put it outside the qutation mark. btw, adding that command line won't make the game run better. It only allows you go over the memory usage thing, in which your machine won't handle.

dr.whiz
Doesn't work for me, or am I good because I have a 1 gig card? depends on what you feel is most important. you will most likely not be able to crank all the sliders all the way up without -norestrictions but by using -norestrictions your fps are definitely gonna drop. Inky
I have the steam version and was able to find the LaunchGTAIV.exe and created a shortcut. In the properties of the shortcut, in the target field it should look like this, no?: "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions So long as I'm not signed into the Rockstar Social Club (as it re-signed me in the first time I tried this) the game will load with out error. However, nothing's changed and I cannot go above the auto settings.

Even asked support about it and they gave me nothing. The thing with steam is that it runs it's own command through it's exe first then hit's your games exe. Not sure how it's coded, but it just sucks. :'(
