i read somewhere that turning of clip capture in the game options adds fps.

i did the swap of the folder names and have no sound issues, will reply here later after i ate my dinner.

-----------

after eating dinner.. I found out that if you lower all your graphics settings you actually lose FPS!

This is when I disable the clip capture.

LOL i turned shadows off and gained 10-12FPS, try it! i was around 16FPS which is barely playable imo to around 26FPS+! hahaha rockstar is silly, putting shadows for everything in a game made to run on PC! dude im just happy my game is smooth now!

my system specs:

C2D e8400 @ 3.0GHz (stock speed yes)

ASUS P5Q SE/r mobo

ASUS EN8600GT 512MB DDR3

2x2GB of DDR2-800MHz

3x500GB hdd (not in a raid, although im thinking about it tounge.gif)

so i duno man, i think it runs fine on my machine, maybe a little hokey at times. and where the hell is this memory leak? i keep my copy open for days at a time, playing it like half the time i am on my machine, and i never see it use more than 2.5 or so GB of ram total. YES I RUN VISTA 32 and YES VISTA DOES FINE ON THIS MACHINE and NO I DIDNT BUY THIS MACHINE TO RUN VISTA i bought it so i could play games like GTA4! so i dunno why you guys are maxing out your ram when you run GTA4, because mine sure doesnt even come close to maxing out. sure it eats a ton of ram, but it doesnt KEEp eating it, maybe its vista clearing the ram, or maybe its something else, but the program never uses more than 2GB of ram when fully loaded.. vista itself takes up almost a gig sitting there, which is why i laughed the other day when i saw a celeron w/512MB of ram running vista 32 home basic.. i know the reqs for that version are low, but damn man.. you need 2GB of ram to run vista comfortably, 3+ GB is reccomended... so stop crying your sh*t doesnt run, because you need more ram.. and for those people who it just wont run for, i feel for you guys, i was waiting for this release since the PS3 version hit the shelf.. rockstar, we love ya, but damn did you drop the ball on this one... thank god it runs fine on my system is all i can say wow.gif

It's true that turning off shadows should boost FPS quite a bit, but... deathtoll... how did YOU turn off shadows? Because in my humble knowledge they're impossible to turn off completely. If you share your method you'll be a hero to many.

If you don't, maybe it's false and you really CAN't turn shadows off.

Zenzuke: no it is not possible to turn shadows off

however you can set the complexity down to zero, which means they wont be complex at all. it may help boost frame rates, i think i saw someone say they did this in another thread, so i tried it, and it gave me a little boost.. however the game is still unpolished, and lags like hell sometimes.. just sluggish overall.. but try turning the shadow depth or whatever down to 1 or zero, however low it will let you go..

has anyone else noticed the "update" hasnt done sh*t for them? or even made things worse? get on it rockstar!

Some things improved, some got worse.

I can now alt-tab much better, and the stability improved... But I now get texture corruption a lot more. At least the texture screwups go away for a while if I change res, but the crashing is a pain.

Aight we have a week to port this sh*t to PC ... let's do this. And if anyone complains about performance, just tell em you're a rockstar and be glad it wasn't pee."

I didnt notice anything with the patch, I think the game starts to run more smoothly the more you play it. The first day I played it, it was crap, lagging all the time, not it runs sort of smooth, and I always keep the clip record on, what else would I do with this game. Play it? Na.

Which the benchmark is almost useless becuase it dosent factor other cars or even probably AI in there, they would have made a better benchmark, I just use the street infront of my apartment (in game) for a benchmark and I am really pulling in 29-30 and 31 if I am really lucky.

Piece of crap.... lol.

Topic = Number one, usefull infos and all....

Truth is quite simple, I'm not arguing about it, it's as simple as the sun. This game is poorly coded, it's another crappy port from console to pc, like all the others. I was expecting that anyway.

High end system SHOULD be able to play the game at high, don't even try to say to me some "blabla" stuff, CRYSIS run with 60 FPS on MY PC, GTA poorly get a 30 score, often dropping to 20 in high action zones .....

My god.... ya know it's hard to play with 20 fps? Anyway, still love the game, just need a bunch of fix ... I'm counting on the community, the guys that are already prepearing some mods that will incrase the FPS and everything at the same time as adding new stuff ^^. It's not R* that will help us, they don't care, this release (the game) is enough to prove my point .... releasing a game like this was kinda like saying :

"Ok, pc gamers, you WILL have BETTER than console guys (look at the first posts and all theirs comparison with the console settings lollll) but not at the current level of next-gen graphics games of the moment like Crysis because we are a little lazy with optimising the code, so, we'll wait for next gens (3years) pc to get that game running at max without having us loosing a lot of time in coding it again"

I luv'R* ^^.

I already know that my english skills are bad, please, don't make fun of me because of it okay?

Anyway, I'm here trying to help people with their issues, cumulating fixes and debugs, so don't laugh at me like that. It's kinda ... frustrating.

Could be the cpu overheating from being pushed that hard.

THIS-IS-SPARTA!

This is just sad... Bought the game yesterday. browsed the forums and decided to go the "play via crack route". No regrets. Performance is poor, but really as long as i don't get stuttering and hitching I am happy. The benchmark crashes 4 me but using fraps I get a constant 12 to 20 frames regardless of detail...

But get this... I run on alien.gif HD 3300 tounge.gif and Athlon 64 X2 4800. icon14.gif This forum helped a lot in deciding which is more important in terms of FPS scaling and detail so my results are like this:

Frame buffer for onboard set at 512 ( max ) + sideport ( additional 64 mb )

With that memory setting I can do high textures and visual effects with low draw distance and resolution of 1152 x 864 and still break 10 fps constantly.

At 800 X 600 I get 14 fps constantly with above settings.

With the Autodetect settings I can do 23 fps constantly indoors, and 16 outside driving around.

I did realize that tweaking the settings far from the autodetect settings can cause the freezing. I encountered an anomily at low textures 800 X 600 everything at 50 and high visual effects where i would get 6 fps.

But as for you guys that get problems i do sympathise. On the brite side at least rockstar made a game that would run the same speed on 90% of computers

LOL SLOOOWW!! LOL.

will do some more testing and see if i can find a better trade off.

my specks are

Athlon 64 X2 4800

Biostar TA790GX A2+

Onboard HD3300 and catalyst 8.12, everything in CCC at application controlled.

2 GB ddr2 800 @ 3-4-3-3-18 t2 ( really tight timings on overvolt. HyperX is good stuff icon14.gif )

Windows Vista ultimate X64

I get no grafix bugs except 4 slight LOD flickering on cars and billboards, very minimal, and worth mentioning is the fact that Nico's slow ass walk often exacerbates the low fps it is annoying having to run and his casual walk is killin me suicidal.gif .

Overclocking the athlon to 3100 mhz gave a significant boost as well, especially with loading times.

I found out how to get this game running without getting crazy from the flickering of the surroundings and the low framerate.

I changed the resolution to 1600x960 and kept the other settings the same as before: texture medium, rendering high, view distance to 27, detail distance 50, car density 50, shadows 8.

With the resolution higher the flickering disappeared almost completely!! At first I had it on 1024x860. The framerates improved from between 13-30 to 25-40. I thought that was amazing.

Does the game tell you what fps you're getting or do you have a program that tells you? Stupid question I know, but I've never had to look at fps because all the games I've had in the past will work on medium-high every time. rolleyes.gif

Interesting reading, even most were known.

But who try to fool. Next gen port? We can only play the game at 22 distance and medium quality?

Then the nehalem i7 can play it at high quallity and 50 distance

And the next Genaration CPU with next gen NVIDIA in tri-SLI (if game supported) will play it at 99 distance and very high quallity.

Well then the game intended to be for 2010 Christmas but port a little earlier. tounge2.gif

Why they just don't admitt it was a bad port? And that it need a patch ASAP?

Why NVIDIA and ATI invest on SLI and crossfire 2 years ago, and came out a game that not support them neither support AA.

Oh well and was telling cause of the day I will stop b****ing.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to all. And to you to R* and your families.

Even I am not going to play GTA IV this year.

The graphics card and processor means very little in this version of the game. Read all the posts regarding it. The only important thing is ... duh, no idea. It SHOULD run fine on a dualcore cpu, especially if the game was ported CORRECTLY.

FYI I tried it on the same computer first with my old 7900GS (256mb) and then with my 8600 GT magic (512mb). No difference WHATSOEVER. In fact, the game got a bit slower on the 8600 even though it is a generation newer and more powerful. SLI or not, no difference either.

The end HAS to be this: NEVER make a lousy port and then claim that it is a next-gen game. Why?

First, it is a port from a CONSOLE version. IE an inferior system.

Second, you NEVER EVER write software for next year's computer. It's a bad business idea. Because people will have forgotten about the game, or moved on to the newer games, when the computers are ready..... (not that this game IS a next-gen. If anything, it's actually a previous-gen with a beefed up graphics engine - which is then supposed to make use of the graphics card!)

The next thing is, that people think its cool the game stutters on current hardware. Who are more happy to call their game "next gen", and playability doesnt matter. Folks, who replied at first, dont you realize how stupid that is?

You want good selling PC games? Make PC games that everyone could play without hassles. Look at the box and say "thats for me", instead inform yourself on tons of forums for hours and still miss information. Which will in turn make you not buy the next PC game because you loose trust in the whole thing. Even thou that next game might actually be good for you. It is a bummer that things like Steam are a very low point of retreat for some.

And yea to that dreamer "probably a patch comes after a few days that fixes that issue", wake up man that day is over.
