cacolukia
I've got some things to say: "Rockstar, I've waited 1 year to play this game on PC and today I payed 40EURO to buy it. I feel humiliated to hear from you that I have to wait some time in the future to run the game with good graphics and performance. I think we have wait enough and you must give us the performance patch because this is a complete PC discrimination. XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 are nothing but 2 years old PC's with limited potential. It is not serious to say that my PC with Core 2 Duo 3GHz ang 8800GT is a trash and games with "future" graphics like GTAIV have to run with low graphics. The game runs with great lack of performance and it is barely playable on medium settings. "Tomb Raider Underworld", "Crysis:Warhead" even "Fallout3" run great on my PC and they have more than 10 times better graphics than GTAIV. Dear Sirs, these games are not future, they are present!" I' m just asking: Give us the patch, PLEASE! I want to play.
camdean
Most users using current PC hardware as of December 2008 are advised to use medium graphics settings. Higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available. Bad idea .... Who is interested how GTA IV runs in computers 2010. If they made it for "next generation" computers they should have waited until then before releasing it. It is nothing but excuse. That doesn't make sense. If the game is going to last and eventualy get moded then it will last a few years, by then it will be old gen.
flyer2359
I run game at minimum and get 22FPS max and average is probably 16-18. I know my graphics card is less than minimum but it should at least get 25fps on minimum I would've thought. Not that great of a port in my opinion
Jackula
I run the game at about 30fps on auto-configure settings which sets texture to medium and render to highest, could I get this game running this well with high textures with a 1GB 4850? PrawnStar
For the last time, Every PC GTA has had problems like this at launch and a quick patch fixed it, GTA III had the exact same problem with performance if I remember correctly. Why, if they have had this problem with every previous version of GTA, did they not stop and fix the problems before launching it? Why piss everyone off, then release a patch? Releasing a half baked game is poor business. Ahh well I have Left 4 Dead now which is an awesome game. Maybe Rockstar can take some tips from Valve on how to create a good game capable of being run by the majority of users. P
GTA3Freak-2001
A few of you have to chill a bit. GTA has never been the best looking game. Even San Andreas doesn't utilize the PC well. Rockstar had always released a patch. I agree it's not fair to bash this game and Rockstar to death. There are people running the game at reasonable speed. And how many PC games out there uses the RAGE engine? Its difficult to make a new game work on all PCs. but it should NOT be difficult to make a game work on a high-end pc. some of the quad core users with the best gfx cards money can buy are getting the same fps of a pc half the price. this is nothing to do with hardware. its a 360 game. any pc from the last 2 years should piss all over it. at least in low settings. My pc give the same fps in benchmark on max settings that it does on the lowest settings. go figure. this is BS, and cockstar need to fix it f*cking pronto. For the last time, Every PC GTA has had problems like this at launch and a quick patch fixed it, GTA III had the exact same problem with performance if I remember correctly. Oh I dunno about that, I remember fondly GTA3 on PC's release and while it did have issues its really nothing compared to this. The problems with GTA3 were mostly confined to the lower end of PC's. Countdown
That doesn't make sense. If the game is going to last and eventualy get moded then it will last a few years, by then it will be old gen. I think it makes a lot of sense - You see If some 80-90% of us can't play it normally - those who can't will be dissapointed and are not interested for modding it - they will forget it as soon as possible .... So after 2 years there are very little if anyone playing it ...
Sycuss
it plays but i get the RESC10 error after 4 loading screens like a scince fact. Online plays great. much higher fps then singleplayer.. YoungGun
I have to have .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 (i guess it is) installed before I install GTA IV? Need to know cuz I am getting GTA IV in the mail tomorrow..
X2-Eliah
The game installation has it on the disc too. If you want to save some GTAIV install time though, you getting the framework and the SP1 for the framework won't hurt..

DAV1D90
well, medium textures instead low had no impact on my FPS and texturs now looks like textures, not like a sh*t.... so now i am playing at: 1024x768 text: medium rend: medium view: 20 details: 10 shadows: 0 cars: 20 and runs "fine" 20-30FPS, but rain is killing my FPS, so please R* release patch with performance boost and framelimiter (25 or 30)
2lame
I had it too running fine on a low res and i will let it stay that way till they get a patch/driver (i have modified my shortcut so that can cross the "psychological barrier" of 512 MB vmem restrictions...) Running at 1024x768 textures: high render quality: highest view distance: 100 detail distance: 100 vehicle density: 100 shadow density: 16 with 17-25 fps (i have set Maximum pre-rendered frames to 8 in my driver options as pointed out in another thread), which gives me no actual stutter/lag ingame so that i can fully enjoy it; It's strange however why the game runs smoothly at such low frames, when usually these numbers mean lag at least. Beats me That on a system from the signature Edited December 4, 2008 by 2lame
puli
i`m very suprised but it runs with my hd3850 agp. the performance is not what i had expected (around 20 fps with almost everything on medium and a resolution of 1280*960). i think it looked better on the console. During Bench mark I knocked up about 26 FPS.. Playing the game its smooth enough... I maxed out the Saturation levels to bring more colour into the game which helps the textures alot too! I do not get any slow downs with the moose look, nor rain, nothing as of yet. I do not log into Rockstar Social Club for info sakes. Not one crash yet, and I am on the 3rd mission. redriot
"They're basically trying to prevent their support staff having to deal with thousands of irate customers, who don't seem to realise that their 5 year old PC can't run the game on maximum settings!" 5 year old PC, maximum settings is of course a stupid demand, I agree. But I think it's OK to suppose that a PC good enough to pass the recommended specs -written on the box of the game- should able to run the game smoothly at medium settings. It's not working at the moment, you need to have a top end PC to play on medium detail, the recommended specs on the box are not enough for that. And after the release, after that millions of people bought their copy R* says: you can play the game on high settings (shown us in the teasing screenshots and trailer videos) in the distant future, on hardwares not yet released. They should have say it before the release, not after that. They lied, they kept in secret that no present hardware is able to run the game in full detail, without glitches. The specs on the package of the product are false.

redriot
I cant wait for the patches and drivers to start rolling in. I don't have high hopes for a fix-it-all patch, but some more serious tweaking and new video drivers may improve the performance slightl. Until the future generation PCs will be widely avaliable.
