Splattel
I had the missing textures problem too. Uninstalled the old nvidia drivers, cleaned them up in safemode, then installed the new beta 180.70 drivers and it's been working so far! xtaz
This is crazy, and stupid. I don't want to waste my time on finding a solution, but on the other hand I really want to play this game.. I bought it yesterday, about 27 hours ago, and I still haven't played a single second..
RedSue
Ok, the 180.70 driver update did not work for me either. So I guess it's not solving everybody's problem. I spent all day to fix this, but no chance. That's it for today. I hope there will be a patch soon. In the end it was an expensive game that doesn't even work. Hope you guys have more luck than I had, bye for now.

2lame
I've been following this thread since noon, as i've been having the same problem. Currently downloading the new Beta drivers 180.70 for Vista x64 to try and see if this could work out for me I'm using a GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB, C2Q9550 @ 2.8GHz stock, 4 GB ram I'll update here no matter the outcome
megahustler
OK, megahustler here again. +1 on the 180.70 drivers! It works! I didn't even have to uninstall and clean the older (newest release version) first. My card is a 7900 GTO.

Just to help heres the very thread : http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=378922 Try and see. Thanks, but that doesn't actually fix most of our problems. If you read the thread you linked to, you would notice that many of us HAVE defragged our hard drives and are still experiencing this same problem. xtaz
Can't believe how they could release a game like this. Did R* only test the game on ONE computer? Or do they all have the exact same PC over there, that has no bugs at all? How will they even be able to make a patch or fix for ALL those problems together.. I bought this game because I knew R* delivers excellent games, but my opinion just changed now. Next time I buy something from R*, I'll wait and see if there are any problems. fflaguna
I f*cking give up. I was dying to play this game, but after spending ~10 hours of my personal time yesterday and today failing to get it to work, I'm done. I'll keep following this thread, and I'll try any promising approaches, but at this point I don't have much to do except wait for a driver release in two to four weeks or wait for a patch from Rockstar, god knows when. Jer1cho
I cant believe how annoying this is. After waiting so long for this game. I even bought a brand new 9800GTX+ for it, yet, it is inadequate. I too have the missing textures issue. 2lame
OK, I stand corrected, the new beta driver fix works for me too as i changed (raised) the graphics a bit and clicked directly on New Game - the previous test i did on minimum graphics @ 800x600 by directly running the Benchmark, which after a buggy finish starts up the new game itself - and loses textures I'm using a GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB, C2Q9550 @ 2.8GHz stock, 4 GB ram on Windows Vista x64 I must say however that with my current settings which I set to the highest possible (except for view distance set on 52 and res set to 1680x1050) the game is veeery sluggish - including cutscenes indoors which don't look anywhere spectacular and "heavy" on the hardware I will try now with some lower settings but still, this should not be final - a patch is needed to correct some things as overall performance and shadows keep you posted.. Rockstar really f*cked up , not only making this game unmodifiable but unplayable, rockstar needs to get off the cocaine that they been snorting after the millions of dollars they earned when it came out for consoles and release a patch.... I have the exact same problems no textures and theres nowhere to pinpoint it other than it just being the F*cking game! just another example of good companies gone bad... we were all screwed over by rockstar..... sry for my language guys but this is ridiculous. fflaguna
HOLY sh*t YOU f*ckING COCKSUCKERS HOLY sh*t YOU f*ckING COCKSUCKERS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS Okay, here's what I did. It's ALREADY been suggested, but I failed to follow the instructions. Here are the steps! 1) Go to "Add and Remove Programs" and scroll down to the N section. Uninstall all Nvidia drivers (there were two of them on mine. One was "nvidia display driver" and the other was "nvidia performance driver", both of them I had recently installed trying to fix this problem). Make sure they are uninstalled. 2) Download and install driver sweeper: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ 3) THIS STEP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (all the !! marks are because I'm excited this works). You need to restart your computer in SAFE MODE. This doesn't work unless you restart your computer *** in SAFE MODE ***. Usually you do this by pressing F8 when it tells you to about 10-30seconds after you first push the power button to start up your computer. (After you are logged onto safe mode, it may say "you need to restart to blah de blah de blah about new hardware." Tell it no, you don't have to restart. 4) Now that you are in safe mode and logged onto windows normally, run Driver cleaner. Search for ATI display drivers and Nvidia display drivers. Then hit the "Clean" button. Now close the program and reopen it, and double-check the same steps. Search for ATI and nvidia display drivers, and make sure that none are found. When this is done, restart your computer back into regular XP. 5) After I rebooted into normal mode, I ran driver sweeper a third time just to make sure. It found NO files for ati and nvidia display drivers. 6) Now I installed 180.60 (not 180.70.) Other people installed 180.48 and got it working, others isntalled 180.70 and got it working. Mine worked fine with 180.60. I assume the version of driver you use doesn't matter, so try with whatever you can find for your version of windows. 7) Restart after you have installed the drivers. 8) FLIP OUT when you realize that your textures are showing up again. I almost decapitated myself out of rage, but luckily I got this fixed in the nick of time. Thanks to all who helped!

Splattel
I might add that cleaning up the drivers in safe mode is critical, since there are four or five files which cannot be removed in normal mode. So those who only tried to clean up in normal mode and install new drivers but didn't get it to work might want to redo it all in safe mode and see how that turns out. Maximilian
Most of the textures were missing for me too. But now I don´t even come so far as the game keeps shutting down just after that license screen. I´m seriously disapointed! It seems I did spend my money for a waste of time. 2lame
Well, it seems i'm gonna play it on 800x600 with all other settings maxed out except View Distance (set at 8 as all settings combined "exceed" my 512 MB VRAM amount and i simply cannot force with those special shortcut commands to drop this limitation) Until a patch arrives this type of graphic settings suit me well as the game runs as rocket on them and no glitches for now p.s. It worries me a bit that my graphical settings are not being saved and are being set to default each time i restart the game, as the place where user settings are saved remains read-only
