Democrab
If you got it off of steam or any other game sharing site then I am not suprised it has problems. The best thing to do is buy it, not pirate. I just hope my pc can handle it. I am going to buy it. Yeah, agreed. Steam users are a bunch of PIRATESSSSSSSS Even though they paid for the game, and that money goes to Rockstar? Rockstar WILL patch it soon enough, SA's launch was the same, it was buggy and barely ran on some PCs, then Rockstar Patched it.
dkm87
Has anybody done a registry clean and what not? I have done a fresh intsall of OS today and nothing changed. Worked great for first 10 mins then closed game - went back in and the textures decided to have a day off.

smokeringhalo
Hey guys. You can add the Nvidia series 7 cards to the list of missing textures. Win Xp SP3 32 bit Athlon 64 4000+ <Single Core runs game woot! BFG Geforce 7950GT 512 MB x 2 <Waiting on SLI patch Video Driver - 178.24 2GB Corsair RAM Purchased @ Best Buy First time I ran game only the HUD and menus were missing, which wouldn't be so bad except I had no way to exit the game. Second time the missing ground & building textures bug made it impossible to see 6 ft in front of the car but the HUD & menus had returned. I've spent all night on this and was worried about my CPU not being able to run the game. After my first install I got the fatal error code for upgrading to SP3 which I've been avoiding since reading all the horror stories associated with it. So after editing my registry to accept SP3 and waiting for it to install, I read that SP3 must be installed prior to installing GTAIV. So I had to uninstall and reinstall GTAIV after SP3. Game starts and runs into the Social Club fatal error. I log out and the game starts again only to run into this texture BS. I just wanted to throw my series 7 card onto the fix pile so that I'm were not left out. Series 8's use different drivers after all. I'm off now to record some high speed action without textures for the social club TV. Edited December 3, 2008 by smokeringhalo
X2-Eliah
I really hope they fix it with a game patch, not an nVidia driver update patch, since mobile (laptop) cards need different drivers, and not most people actually bother to update drivers. Besides, since the fault is with this one game (it's not like all games have no textures on nVidias), then this one game has to be fixed, right? Either way, bad, bad job. Stuff like this shouldn't have happened.
nissassA
the Gta is biggest game in the world ,and have million fan ,if there is a problem they fixed it, just give them more days TRUST me i'm Going buy this game any way ;\
dr.whiz
the more people that report to this thread, the more pathetic r* becomes. i mean, nvidia is even an official sponsor. even though chances of something like this showing up in one of their pre release test is slim, nvidia is supposedly still fairly involved in the development that they should know when and how to update their drivers correctly. dkm87
Well i am confident i have eliminated just about all possible causes: Ive reinstalled over and over defraged reg cleaned new os install rolled back drivers on both used current drivers on both updated dx10 I am sure the game is not interfacing with dx10 properly. That has to be our texture rendering issue.
smokeringhalo
I was able to get most of the textures back (ground & buildings) by running the benchmark test from the graphics menu. However by doing this I lost the entire HUD (Radar & Menus) plus the entire skybox so its not really a fix but at least you can see whats in front of you. Losing the HUD menus will make it difficult if not impossible to exit the game properly so be warned. I just played it till I had a CTD. Make you wonder why the game was delayed though. I think I'm going to stop buying games on release dates from now on and start buying them when first patches are released.
LJSilver
I had this exact problem and got rid of it. I dunno which step exactly solved the issue but I did the following and got all textures back: 1. Uninstalled Forceware 180.70 like usual in Widows Vista Control Panel 2. Removed all driver leftovers with Driver Sweeper (www.guru3d.com) 3. Installed Forceware 180.48 4. Set FSAA to OFF / VSync ALWAYS ON in NVIDIA CP. 5. Started game and all is well. This is with German retail version and 8800GT in Vista X64 SP1. Edited December 3, 2008 by LJSilver

RedSue
Ok, I just bought the game in a store (germany) and i have the same problem with the textures. I have XP with SP3 GefOrce 9600 and all the system requirements are ok on my pc. @ LJSilver: Do you know what I could do, since I don't have vista? P.s.: How does it usually take untill a patch comes out? I never had problems like these before, so i don't know. By the way, in other forums they have the same problems, without any luck of fixing it yet. Edit: the third time i started the game, it was all ok untill i hit the esc-button (dunno abgout skyline tho, it was nighttime in the game, but roads were there). 4th try solved nothing. Jez261
I found if i move the mouse so that the camera is over Nikos shoulder then I can create a 'window' of correct rendering (shown in screenshot).. someone above also posted a pic of Romans cab on the dock in a similar way.. This leads me to believe that the issue lies with the interfacing between a) the games rendering engine, b) direct X and c)the graphics driver.. I tend to think that the issue is more on Rockstars end and that the renderer in the game engine is causing the problem.. In any case my specs are.. Vista X64 Ultimate SP1 with this weeks updates installed Q6600 Stock at 2.4 4GB DDR2 800 8800GTS 320mb running latest Omega drivers My game is also installed on a raid partition.. its not an access speed problem.. defragging wont help anybody. smokeringhalo
4. Set FSAA to OFF / VSync ALWAYS ON in NVIDIA CP Didn't help but I'll try just about anything at this point so thanks. Having series 7 cards I can't use those forceware versions so I couldn't try your 1-3 steps.

I am now using some professional software my company uses to defrag disk drives (takes about 3 hours for 250gb) and i am hoping this will either resolve the issue completely - or prove that its just memory leaks left right and centre. RedSue
Ok, my game shows East hook, when I restart it. But as soon as i enter HoveBeach, all the textures are gone. Does that help at all?
Quanta
I begin to think that the texture files themself are corrupt !
dkm87
Give it a few hours - i wil 100% know either way. I swear R* should be paying me - im testing every mcf*cking know possible way to get this sorted. If a super defrag doesnt come up with the goods - the this game is going straight back up their arse. Ill tell them to shove it back in and let it cook before dumping sh*t like that on us again.
Voodoomunki
Exactly the same issue, However mine has a twist. When i first played the game I had NO UI apart from the icons that should be in the minimap (arrow showing your position and facing direction) even the Esc menu showed nothing but the textures were absolutely fine. Then i updated direct x to the latest update and the ui shows fine but now i have the texture problem. Specs below Core2 duo 6300 2gb ddr2 ram (not sure on speed) NV 7950 gt Windows XP home 32bit. U made me realize something, the Steam version comes with the DirectX from Jun 2008. Check ur Steam folder! CSniper
Same problem with my game. Retail DVD version, preordered from Play.com Specs: AMD X2 3800+ nVidia 7950GT 512mb PCI-E X16 2GB DDR2 RAM MSI K9VGM-V motherboard Windows XP 32bit SP3 Exact same symptoms as OP. I have tried restarting several times, it seems to switch randomly from having no GUI/corrupted GUI and SFX to having no textures. I have the latest nVidia drivers, DirectX 9 and I have tried running it in single monitor mode. Same problem.
