fflaguna
its obviously something more than just the graphics driver causing this since fflaguna has tried all of them to 6 months back in time, and all kinds of different nividia graphic cards are being affected and not everyone with nividia graphics cards with the same drivers are affected by this. semie - That's interesting, I'll see if I can do that, but it's hard to even drive around or find where I'm going. I also downloaded the drivers Jacob mentioned just for sh*ts and giggles, since I'm at my wit's end. I'll see what I can do. Actually, I didn't try all of them. Just the one from early June, one from two months ago, the current official one, and two of the most recent beta releases.
TruXter
Heh, cool that it looked better. how long till it goofed again? So far it is an Nvidia issue.. There is another thread talking nvidia but it says it's drivers and then uninstall game remove all gtaiv crap from registry and then delete your saved settings in the my docs folder .. the last one I think will help. but the registry part could be suicidal. semie
@ TruXter Once I ran the benchmark it didnt "goof" as you put it, it just stayed the same, at times certain things were not visable but nothing like the pre benchmark issues... Why it displays after the benchmark is the Quistion...
fflaguna
That's the second report I've heard of the benchmark fixing things. The benchmark doesn't fix anything for me! ;( Truxter... you really need to read all pages of the thread if you are going to say "so far the problem is xxxxxx". You are missing key information! Deak Rulf
I just spent half hour ont he phone with the biggest distribuotr of this game. Rockstar ARE aware of the issues. They are 90% sure its video driver related issues and say that we should expect something within the week. [...] Aside form that - within a week expect a patch from nvidia or rockstar. I think that is the best info we got tonight. But I wonder which nvidia driver R* used to test the game... People here (like me) went through lots of driver installs. Maybe we just missed the right one. Looking at positives rather than collecting negatives might give a clue. Let's see what we should expect within this week... dr.whiz
is the brand of your graphics card the same by any chance? to me it seems like a clean os install (maybe even change of os) and just starting from scratch might work since there are ALOT of people out there with the same hardware setup as the ones having this issue that are able to play the game. TruXter
Well I think I am done helping here.. We have narrowed the issue down. prevented trolls from saying they have issues, and not showing screenshots and saying they have the same issue with thier ati video card. Sorry to the op for not remembering your name when you posted earlier. I was weeding out more than one issue.. now that we narrowed it to nvidia .. you are well on your way. if you can stay focused on the issue. again, I understand you have a problem and want it solved. So I will not freak out that you lash out at me. You are on your own and on your way now. Enjoy.

Thanks for the great post, and you tried some things that I didn't, like novsync and and readding those processes to startup. Also, the benchmark crashes for me after a little while, too. I'm going to download it overnight for my Win XP 32-bit SP3 partition and see if it makes any difference. I bet not. ;*(

vaursechs
Well, I've got somewhat the same problem. My game ran fine the first 5 minutes, but after 5 minutes the textures are beginning to fade away. After another 1-2 minutes my screen is the same as the screens in this topic. My specs are: C2D E6600 clocked at 3.2 Ghz ( watercooled ) nvidia GF 8800 Ultra Driver: 180.70 ( also tried other drivers ) Mobo: nforce 680i SLI RAM: 2GB OCZ PC6400 What I also tried which NONE of you posted earlier: I changed my virtual memory from 4 GB on c: drive to: 2 GB on D: drive ( same drive as where the game is installed. ) This DID make a change... I could play the game at High & High, 1440x900, drawdistance 50 etc.. But the problem was not gone, I could play for 10 minutes now before the textures were fading away. First I tough the problem was my memory, because my 2GB memory was completely in use during the game, but in this topic I see people with 4GB with the same problem
dr.whiz
maybe it's something weird like the brand of your graphics card or maybe it even got something to do with the motherboard. we've gone through pretty much everything it feels like. still interested in hearing from someone trying to get a clean os install to see if the problem is still there. vaursechs
I Had these same problem when GTA 3 and Vice City just came out.. It was fixed after R* released a patch.. semie
@ Dr.whiz I have a clean install (as stated earlier), there is nothing on my machine except my OS and GTA IV, I was in the middle of doing a clean install when EB called to tell me I could come get my pr-order, little did I know at the time it would only be good for looking at the nice dvds inside the cover... I installed my OS Xp 64 bit updated all required updates installed latest drivers installed .NET framework 3.5 installed the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series x64 Edition then I installed the game and defragged the hdd thats as clean as its going to get mate and I have the missing textures until I run the benchmark then the textures are viewable, not all but most (see earlier post pics). cheers
