All textures missing!

i've got problems with the game aswell, but not the texture thing... it just runs slowly and very choppy (not always). Maybe my laptop is just to slow (it does meet the minimum requirements, even the recommanded requirements except for my processor), but i'm not sure

Specs

Windows Vista 32bit SP1

Intel Core Duo 2 1,83ghz

4GB DDR 2

8600M GT (Driver v.7.15.11.5672)

Some advice would be appreciated so i know what exactly the problem is ( and if possible a solution)

your processor might simply not cut it for the game since it's like you mentioned below the minimum requirements. some people have gotten it to run ok though with similar processor but you will never get it to run at more than 20fps i bet. try checking out some tweaks in different threads of this forum since this thread is really just about the issue of missing texture.

Argh! We need new ideas how to fix this! It's not a game for 50bucks, it is with 50bugs!! I hate being cheated like that!

Don't know if you guys have already tried installing .NET 3.5 SP1 and disabling clip capture?

already tried that - no change

guess the only thing we can do is wait for r*

I didn't follow the topic... some1 found a good solution for a 7600GS 512mb? I tried 180.70 drivers, I can see textures but the game is f*ckIN SLOW (maybe 3fps). Help?

I have the same problem. I'm going to try installing 180.70 drivers. If that won't work, I hope Rockstar is going to release a patch soon or else. angry.gif

Have you guys tried the method described in post 1 (updated)?

If you did exactly what the OP said, than maybe this doesn't work for everyone.

It worked for me though, and thanks to the OP I am now playing WITH textures. smile.gif

I will try it later. I'm a bit tired now from sitting at my PC and trying to install 180.40 drivers, because my PC can't find them for some reason.

This game is causing me some serious headache. I should be thankful that I've managed to run it on my single core processor, but this texture bug is annoying as hell.

my screen looks exactly like OPs and i tried his method with 5 different drivers (unfortunately im on a notebook so these drivers were all inofficial) - no success

Of course i COULD go on and try about 20 additional drivers but why on earth should I do that ? i paid a lot of money for this game and certainly not to be a beta-tester for r*

ok ive tried the instructions that the first post had but it diddnt fix it. i think i see more background buildings tho, but im still missing textures.

altho my textures problem might be different than all of yours.

1. ive never lost textures on the car i was driving

2. my textures dont go away untill after about 10 minutes of play time, and before they do go away all the roads and buildings start showing as low res textures then as i keep driving then they are invisible.

is this how anyone else gets it??????

I'm still WITHOUT textures tounge.gif but I finally figured out how to disable the restriction! It's quite easy now with Social club working..

Make a shortcut of LAUNCHGTAIV.exe to your desktop and click properties. Type behind your target ( this is mine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" ) -norestrictions -nomemrestriction

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions -nomemrestriction

With spaces between!! Log in first ( R* SocialClub ) and double click your launchgtaIV.exe on your desktop!!

Late yesterday I rang the number listed on Rockstars page for technical support in my country... they had no idea of the problems and told me they were not Rockstar (even though their number is listed as being the people to call for support).

So I tried again for most of the night to get it to work on my 8800GTS but with no luck.

This is pathetic. Rockstar you have lost ALL of my respect. Get your support people updated NOW. Stop pissing off customers - we will only take so much.

Went that route also. Been trading emails back and forth for 2 days now, where they tell me "Update graphics drivers." "Ok, now update to the latest DirectX"

Morons ....

I'm having the same problem and I am also running XP 64 bit.

But when I ran the benchmark the textures were there???

Having the SAME issue. This is exactly what mine looks like, but when I run the benchmark, all the textures are there and it looks fine, even says I am averaging 40fps, and there is no way that could be right. But the benchmark text also says it lasted for 37s, which could be, but thats where it hung up and the screen veeeeeeeery slowly went black. I hit escape, and all my textures were there, untill I tried to get to the menu, then nothing about the menu popped up.

I also tried the 180.xx BETA drivers, and it seems to run ok. My only problem with that is those drivers screw with every other game I have installed. Dont work right. And I shouldnt have to run BETA drivers to play a f*cking game anyway.

Hardware

Microsoft® Windows® XP Homel x32 Edition fully updated

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS

Video Driver version: 175.19

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.4 ghz

4GB DDR2 RAM

Ideas??

And sorry to sound like an idiot ... how the HELL do you take a screen shot and where does it get saved to???

I dunno if dudes are still asking but yeh it affects ATI too

i'm ATI

radeon 4870x2

and its pissed up on mine too,

no textures at all

HOWEVER

running the game in safe mode, is fine, a little limited but fine nonetheless

its my only action till this gets fixed

i've got major issues with farcry 2 not even loading past the first splash screen also.

game devs and coders need to realise

that coding and programing for pc users is just as necessary

sorry that we PC GAMERS generally have more of a clue and don't have to resort to console for out gaming hobbies.

Ok found a workaround that works on the steam forums. I don't take credit for this but I'm too happy actually playing this sh*t to go back and find it atm.

Even if you've never used it before download rivatuner 2.2. Make sure its 2.2 as 2.11 didnt have the correct button. Let it load up and do its database thing.

When it loads up, on the bottom you will see something that says forceware detected (was the bottom most of 4 clickable windows for me). Click it and the far right icon should be a broom. Click that and it will ask to reset all drivers to default or something of that sort. Click yes, let it restart and then try to run the game however you like.

I had never used 2.2 before but had used 2.1 in the past to up my gpu fan speed and nothing else. I've been wiping drivers and directx and crap for 2 days now and this is

the only thing that has worked. I had read in several spots on this thread to use the broom icon but 2.11 didnt have it so I just uninstalled it and drivers, wiped and tried again.

Only after doing the rivatuner 2.2 reset was I able to see any textures. Now I can complain about how sh*tty they look sarcasm.gif. After the fact I went and set my fan back with nvidia tools or whatever it is and it had no effect, textures still worked.

Atm I am using nvidia 180.48 drivers on a 9800gx2 with a fully updated directx on a retail version. Best of luck to all out there, pm me if you have a question or try this s*itty windows game pos, name is the same. Good luck and I hope this helps some people because believe me I know your frustration right now.

All of these steps have been stated in this thread and other threads. Now I can't even find the specific thread on steam forums that specifically said ver 2.2 but he gets credit from me for stating 2.2 as 2.11 kept showing up for me as the latest sad.gif .

I had the some problem on my DV5 notebook. My Graphics card is a NVIDIA 9600 GT 512mb card. I got the crappy textures that most of the screenshots exhibit in this thread.

However I downloaded the 180.70 drivers from Laptop2go and installed them. Didn't use driver sweeper or anything, just uninstalled the old ones and installed the new ones. After a reboot the textures are back and the game runs smoothly and normally.

Hope that helps someone else at least.

i was trying that and i just quit the game after it still loses textures,

every different fix that has been posted so far has not worked.

altho it does seem to take longer for the effect to happen, but still it does eventually happen

im also on 9800gx2 nvid

havent had them disappear on me since they've shown up yet. I set all my control panel settings as low as I could for pretty much everything

but left sli alone even though I know this game doesn't support it yet. I had pretty much given up at the point it finally worked. Maybe that last bit of

utter desperation is what you need sad.gif. If you haven't yet I'd say check out the stickies on steam's gta forum, their list of fixes is pretty well organized,

and some stuff is worded a little differently which may give you something you haven't been doing before. If you have been or it just the same

redundant sh*t that you been getting everywhere else, I apologize.

YIPPEEE, I finally solved my "disappearing textures" problem! smile.gif For me it was the main memory! Initially I had 2GB, and the textures always started disappearing after a few minutes of play. It looked exactly like the screenshots here in the thread. I then swapped my 2x1GB DIMMs against 2x2GB and the problem is gone! Game is running fine now with framerates around 30fps using the automatic settings. I guess there is some problem with the texture caching algorithm if you have too little memory. Note that the memory usage statistics in the benchmark is not an indication, as it only showed something like 70% usage in my case before the memory expansion. My system is an AMD 5600+ with an Nvidia 8800GT, BTW.

IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS

IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS IT WORKS

Okay, here's what I did. It's ALREADY been suggested, but I failed to follow the instructions. Here are the steps!

1) Go to "Add and Remove Programs" and scroll down to the N section. Uninstall all Nvidia drivers (there were two of them on mine. One was "nvidia display driver" and the other was "nvidia performance driver", both of them I had recently installed trying to fix this problem). Make sure they are uninstalled.

2) Download and install driver sweeper:  http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

3) THIS STEP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (all the !! marks are because I'm excited this works). You need to restart your computer in SAFE MODE. This doesn't work unless you restart your computer *** in SAFE MODE ***. Usually you do this by pressing F8 when it tells you to about 10-30seconds after you first push the power button to start up your computer.

(After you are logged onto safe mode, it may say "you need to restart to blah de blah de blah about new hardware." Tell it no, you don't have to restart.

4) Now that you are in safe mode and logged onto windows normally, run Driver cleaner. Search for ATI display drivers and Nvidia display drivers. Then hit the "Clean" button. Now close the program and reopen it, and double-check the same steps. Search for ATI and nvidia display drivers, and make sure that none are found. When this is done, restart your computer back into regular XP.

5) After I rebooted into normal mode, I ran driver sweeper a third time just to make sure. It found NO files for ati and nvidia display drivers.

6) Now I installed 180.60 (not 180.70.) Other people installed 180.48 and got it working, others isntalled 180.70 and got it working. Mine worked fine with 180.60. I assume the version of driver you use doesn't matter, so try with whatever you can find for your version of windows.

7) Restart after you have installed the drivers.

8) FLIP OUT when you realize that your textures are showing up again. I almost decapitated myself out of rage, but luckily I got this fixed in the nick of time.

Thanks to all who helped!

the was the last thing i was going to try b4 taking this game back to the store and telling them to shove it.

my specs are

8800 gt

4 gig ram

core2 duo 3.0ghz

retail 2 disk

meets the required fields.

i did exactley what was described and to my suprise i now have textures and can see the game smile.gif

thank you very much for the detailed fix and hope every one else having this very frustrating problem has the same success.

$100 au for a game and it doesnt work is enough to sh*t you right off.

uninstalled drivers and physx drivers

restarted and ran in safe mode (f8 on reboot) ran cleaner,

rebooted and reinstalled nvidia driver 180.48

game workes.

this is the fix for the problem of no textures in the pics of the 1st post as discribed by fflaguna, well done mate and many thanks for your time an efforts.

or keep it open when everyone comes back when the textures disappear again. The video editor does NOT like the beta drivers and will bust the textures of ppl like myself who've successfully used this fix.

Before suggesting the thread is locked please at least take the time to read all the posts.

The driver reinstall procedure in the first post didn't solve the problem for everybody though (e.g. me). My theory is that there might be several different factors causing this:

1) All 7900GT cards seem to be affected by a driver problem according to Rockstar.

2) Some people may have done changes to the driver settings that GTA doesn't like. This is probably the issue that can be solved via the procedure in the first post, since it resets the drivers to a clean state.

3) There is probably a bug in GTA's memory management that shows up when you have 2GB memory or less, such as in my case.
