barry666666
Yeah I had a look at that, although that just mentions NVIDIA and the drive cleaner I have a completely new installation with the latest driver, although i have just read that the settings in the control center need to be on QUALITY!!!!! This was on rockstars site, I will try shortly and report back

I only used Rivatuner to show me a temperature reading on the vga card, but I uninstalled it to see if worked and it didn't. Still no textures. Hmm, gonna try my bios settings for the card. Maybe it has something in there for it.
kennyb
can any one help me ?what driver i use for geforce 9600gt ,please ? What do you need? The instructions on the 1st post is exactly what you should do. Although I hadn't used RivaTuner in a long time and had already removed my slight overclock and fan speed changes, I had to "reset driver settings". That finally did the trick. nitro_hedgehog
its obvious that the "solution" is temporary. low detail textures often get drawn in place of high detail ones for a few seconds. and despite an OK but not as good as it should be FPS, the swingset of death doesn't cause that massive framerate drop like it does on the 360. hopefully the patch will utilize the graphics card better. MattHackin
Hey just want to say I think it's great how everyone has been coming together trying to sort this thing out. I've read this thread every post from page 1 through 18, what a mission that was! Unfortunately for me the generally accepted solution has not worked. My specs: Athlon 64 3500+ 2.21ghz 1GB ram (lol, I know) ASUS EN9800 GTX+ Windows XP SP3 Basically I've tried twice performing the uninstall nvidia drivers - safe mode driver sweep - reinstall drivers technique, but have had no luck. My textures are still refusing to show themselves. The first time I tried I didn't delete all of the files in the driver sweep but the second time I made sure everything was deleted before I installed v180.70 of the nvidia drivers. I know this is probably a really noob question on here, forgive me please, but how do you find out whether you are running XP 32bit or 64bit? And if anyone has any suggestions please let me know, otherwise hopefully R* or nvidia will provide a patch to solve this ridiculous problem! What a pain in the ass! Hey, I just tried the same thing as you and it didn't work either... but then I decided to try starting a New Game (eg press ESC then choose "Game" then "New"). Edit: it worked until I drove a distance then it was all missing textures again. Thanks to all who posted in this thread. DJBAJO
My god there are some funny people here... Anyway, my brothers PC has had issues as described here, but not the same exactly. Its had the BLACK TEXTURES covering everything, like basically where there is meant to be reflection, its just black textures. I dont know the Screenshot key, so can't post pics. And now that it is fixed, I dont plan on going back and providing them. BUT here are the specs and what was done to fix: Brothers PC: C2D E6750 ASUS P5N-E SLI 2x2GB DDR2 800MHZ Gigabyte 4850 512MB 19" LCD @ 1280x1024 Win XP SP3 Retail Boxed Version of Game (Australia) Running the latest DirectX and ATi drivers (8.11) The fix for this system (and apparently all ATi users) is simply setting the MIPMAP detail setting in the Catalyst Control Panel to QUALITY (Maximum). Just done that and the game is beautiful, no more issues. Anyway the best bit of advice I can give is: READ THIS THROUGH: http://www.rockstargames.com/support/req_s...4&submit=Submit Because it just fixed the issues with my game, not actually mine, but my brothers which I have been messing with for the last couple of hours as I mentioned. I hope it provides some fixes, because once the game is running fine it really is very good, I too wanted to blast the f*ck out of R* for the issues on my brothers PC here, but fortunately they arent an issue any more. Now @ home on my PC, so far the game has worked flawlessly, but I've only ran the benchmark twice. But no issues, and my specs are: P4 631 3GHZ @ 4GHZ 4x1GB DDR2 RAM (2x667MHz - 2x800MHz) Gigabyte P35-DS3 Gigabyte 8800GTS 320MB WinXP SP3 Im not running the latest nVIDIA drivers, there a few months old for sure, but yeah Im lucky enough to not have an issue @ home. Just really sh*thouse FPS (15 average after benchmark @ 1024x768 (all on Low) Mid 20's settings for View/Detail distance etc.) But check the recommendations in that link guys, but if there's no luck I'm guessing either a Video Card driver update will be released ASAP and fix this, if not an issue with the game, that a patch will fix. But seriously, Ive had a massive laugh at the same time reading through this @ some peoples comments/stupidity. Also fflaguna, your recommendation isn't a miracle fix so stop getting people so excited that it'll work for them when for the majority it won't make a difference and hasn't yet you still post it, so annoying! LOL! Its great your trying to help but you go on about that solution as if its guaranteed to fix EVERYONES problem with GTAIV.

X2-Eliah
Could the OP please kindly re-edit his post to remove mis-leading information? Apparently the "cure" (with some really unnecessary side-steps for the simple idea of a complete driver un-install - reinstall) does not work for some people (one poster on this same page, other on this page -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread...=326714&page=21 Either way, the cause is random? As it seems there are sme people able to play the game without encountering this bug - are they purely ATI-ists (not likely, eh?) or just lucky? As it seems there are sme people able to play the game without encountering this bug - are they purely ATI-ists (not likely, eh?) or just lucky? the solution still worked for the majority of the original posters in this thread i believe. since then people with almost the same problems have come in here, and we can't expect everyone's problems to be solved by a solution for one specific problem. besides, i still think that for some people the solution might not work simply because we as people are usually sloppy or lazy when following a step by step guide, often ignoring things as rebooting your system or whatever. some of these steps can be crucial. for instance, the poster that created this thread and posted an edited version of the original poster's solution, only made it work after going into safe mode to delete his old video driver. ignoring or missing minor things like this is often the reason for why not everyone manages to apply the solution. on the other hand, i do agree that the first post can be redited to point out reasons for why the solution might not work. Splattel
It seems like the game is extremely nitpicky about the graphic drivers. Any non-standard nvida control panel interaction, like rivatuner, overclocking or tiniest little error in the registry seems like it can possibly mess up the game. Rickpetrusmaria
Now I'm wondering what is going to happen with those who haven't got it fixed? I couldn't delete 2 files with driver sweeper and deleted those now manually ( previously attempts I didn't ) and I'm about to install 180.48 so hopefully it works. But main question; is there any news about R* working on or releasing a patch soon?
axis09
installing 180.48 makes no difference, you all need to keep checking the R* support page for news on the new driver updates from nvidia etc, they know the missing texture problem is driver related, we all just need to sit tight and be patient, they're on it edit and for those using driver sweeper, and not getting those 2 files deleted, use DC Driver Cleaner, that seems to get rid of them
Rickpetrusmaria
I could manually delete those 2 files...but infortunately it doesn't matter it still doesn't work for me! I know for sure I've followed every step correctly. So indeed I have to hold tight and wait for either a patch by R* or a new driver...
