That's the same driver I use (although not the GTA driver). WTF? I have higher specs than you, and vista f*cks my FPS up by 1/2? miarkus
Its not 180.48 but 180.84 For both me and TheHagueBoxer it greatly improved performance. U should try those drivers too... Obviously it works good for M nvidias.
jolly_jay
Running fine here on Asus M51SN Laptop running vista. Did initially have the missing textures at the beginning...but this has been fixed by installing the 170.80 driver modified for M cards. Frame rates ranging from 20-30fps on medium settings. If you are running this on a laptop...i strongly suggest creating a new user with minimal settings. ie...on vista, deactivate all the eye candy such as transperency, aero experience etc. Then review all your services and start up programs to ensure nothing is running unnecessarily. I even went so far as to create a small .bat file that is executed on startup for the user that stops a range of services such as internet security, automatic updates etc etc. (be careful...don't disable as your services are user independent) In this way you have a dedicated user for running the game with minimal background tasks. I am running the game in 1028x768 res and im fine with the results now. fishyfish777
I can't seem to find the 184.84 drivers for the Mobile cards anyone know where to get them, laptopvideo2go only has the 180.70 drivers go to drivers -> OS version Well, It's strange. I have a 9700M GT and a 2.2Ghz, someone has a 9500M GT and has a 2.6Ghz, the other person wins. After installing 180.70 my framerate has risen to around 13-25 though. On medium settings, shadows 1, and the console-level view settings. There is no such thing as 180.84. Just 180.48. Oh, and I'm playing with Aero and antiviruses, antispyware, Skype, MSN Messenger, and Google Chrome in the background. is that bad? Also, is setting view distance around 20 affect performance? Unpack nvidia drivers with installer - default path is C:\NVIDIA\WinXP\180.84\English 2. Go to that folder 3. Download this file and replace attached nv4_disp.inf with original file http://sheebuya.pl/gta/nv4_disp_8600m_gt.zip 4. Install driver It works only with 8600M GT - I have this nvidia and that's why I adjusted drivers only for this card. It works form me and should work for you but remember that you are doing it on your own responsibility smile.gif Let me know about the results.. PS> TheHagueBoxer also tested this and it works fine for him also with performance boost...
flyer2359
Edit: I deleted my original post but anywise, for all those people with laptops download and run the 180.84 driver since it will unpack it to (drive):nvidia/operating system/180.84 Then go and download nvidia mobility tweaker from driverheaven and run it then select where your driver is an it will modify the files so it will work with Mobile graphics cards. worked for me. fcam1387
I'm new to all this so I need a little help with this one. I've got a GeForce 9600M GT on Vista 64x. The latest driver I have is from my manufacturer (HP) downloaded in August. If I want the game to run smoother, how can I get these drivers. I downloaded the 180.70 from laptop video 2 go but I couldn't install because it said "setup could not locate any drivers compatible with my software". If I want to install the one made especially for GTA - 180.84, is this possible, considering that I don't have a chip mentioned in the specs? How would I do it? Thanks. Persanity
I have a Sager NP9262 (Clevo D901C) which is the best laptop ever seeing how it can use desktop processors, Supports SLi, up to 8GB of RAM and supports 3 hard drives. My relevant specs are: C2D E8400 @2.99GHZ Geforce 8800M GTX 512MB 2GB 800MHz DDR2 System Ram I'm only getting 15-20 FPS with lots of stuttering. Don't get me wrong its a f*ckin beautiful game but I shouldn't have to upgrade a computer I've had for only 7 months to play a game.

t0xiC
I'm playing with an Acer Aspire 6920G; Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2 GHz ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 @ 512 MB 3 GB DDR2 RAM And the "recommended" settings for me are medium/high but the FPS won't go higher than 20 (ranges between 15-20) unless I change my resolution to something like 800 x 600.. Besides, I get those flickering, black "stripy" shadows/shaders like this guy: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=381209 I really hope these new upcoming drivers or that new patch will solve this.. Fearless Kicker Of Ass
Hi guys, Ive just scrolled through this topic and there were some very usefull tips that have helped me alot. My system is lower specced than anything described above, yet I am able to play the game to some extent and have read posts of other people with the same specs that have also solved the following problem, but cant exactly tell me how they did that. I have a 2 year old ZEPTO laptop based on the HEL80C with a T7200 Intel Core 2 CPU @ 2 GHz and 2 gigs of ram, with a Geforce Go 7600 which has 256 MB integrated memory. So far I have installed the nvidia drivers with modded inf and installed the patch. This allowed me to start the game, but it wouldnt get to loading. I used the benchmark option from the graphics menu to get it to actually start loading and allow me to play. Also for some reason I had to turn the volume of the radio way down to have any other audio. The only thing that still stands between me and really playing GTA iv now (besides the low fps, but ill have to live with that) are the mini-map and menu when pressing esc and phone and subtitles not showing up. This is really annoying and makes it impossible to play anything. I hope someone can help me with this problem. I know some people have already solved it, so it seems possible. Hope someone can help. Cheers.
