Endgame
I was thinking on buying the game but after reading this thread I am not so sure anymore.. I got an ASUS G1S gaming laptop and I was pretty confident I could run this game on medium-low, but I guess I was wrong: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 Ghz Nvidia 8600mGT - 256mb 2Gb RAM Windows Vista 32 bits Anyone who has a similar laptop tried the game? If so can you post some results? I read mast's post but is it really so terrible? There are some users who have an worse rig than mine and are able to play the game, it seems. Can anyone post some results? ^^ Thanks in advance Edited December 4, 2008 by Endgame
AussieDave27
I'm running it on a Metabox M860TU (also known as Clevo/Sager in America) and it runs better than my desktop, not performance wise, but because it doesn't crash all the time. This leads me to believe that the crashing is an ATI related issue because I have a 4870 on my desktop. I run it at 1200x800 with Highest rendering, medium textures, lowest shadow density, max traffic density (for fun) and some pretty medium/low settings for effect detail and view distance. It runs pretty well. I haven't frapsed it yet but I'm guessing about 30-35 fps. It is definitely playable and even when driving very fast it's okay. Endgame
I was searching on teh internetz and I found this post on another forum: "The game runs like $hit on my system. The most frustrating thing is that the game limits what settings you can use. Even with everything low, I cant even get to a res of 1280x720. Im forced to play the game on 1154x640 with low textures and medium everything else. The game looks really bad with my current settings above but I am able to get about 30 fps. I really hope Rockstar fixes this quick or has an explanation for the poor performance. Ive been reading people with GTX 260s are having trouble running the game; that is unacceptable. I have been really looking forward to this game and I'm really disappointed. __________________ Inspiron 1520 C2D Duo T7500 2.2GHz 2GB DDR2 667MHz GeForce® 8600M GT WSXGA+ Truelife 120GB HD 7200RPM Bluetooth & Webcam Intel® 3945 & 6C Batt Vista Home Premium" HELL this guy can get 30fps with almost everything on medium and a decent resolution?? (IMO, 1154x640 is decent ) I was willing to play the game on 800x600 if it ran decently =) It seems that I can give this game a shot, I have seen some videos on youtube and the game looks AWESOME even with LOW on every setting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO42LSjRhfM The first part of the video is with everything on LOW and textures on HIGH, and as you can see it looks pretty good, not too different from the consoles. I'll try to borrow the game from my friend and try it, I'll post some feedback later (if I don't forget to do so xD) EDIT: I found some interesting videos on youtube, GTAIV playing on a NVIDIA 8600mGT with MEDIUM settings: The FPS will probably be higher in actual gameplay since fraps slows the game like hell. Can anyone post some results? ^^ Thanks in advance Finally got my friend to borrow me the game and tried it on my pc. Er... well... it runs... pretty bad Statistics Average FPS: 22.68 Duration: 37.21 sec CPU Usage: 97% System memory usage: 82% Video memory usage: 95% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 800 x 600 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: Low Render Quality: Low View Distance: 10 Detail Distance: 10 Hardware Microsoft® Windows Vista" Ultimate Service Pack 1 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Video Driver version: 180.70 Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz As you can see, with extremly low settings the game runs poorly, at least. In actual gameplay I get an average of 22-25 fps. Is it playable? - Well... yes, barely. Does it look good with those settings? - HELL NO! It looks awful, damn I think even San Andreas looks better, but hey... at least it's barely playable, right? But you don't experience any major bugs I presume? - Er.. At least it didn't crash, but I only played for an hour or so. But the game gets a LOT of "artifacts" with those settings: wierd shadows, wierd graphics, looks really bad. My advice to anyone who has similar specs? Don't even THINK about buying this game, at least for now. I tinkered a bit with the game and got it to play in medium settings, and guess what? The FPS loss wasn't that great, really. Instead of 22-25 fps I got 20-23 fps. So I believe, like most of the people out there, that this game's real problem is OPTIMIZATION. It's just bogus that I, who have a medium-range spec, can't even play this game decently with all settings on low. I can play many of the newer games, like Call Of Duty 5 and Left4Dead in medium. Maybe the upcoming patch will solve this performance issue and we all can play the game. Until then, if you have a pc with specs similar to my own, don't buy this game. fishyfish777
Why hallo thar. I are new. Besides the two days spent making this game WORK FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, yeah, it's okay on my lappy. Specs are: Model: ASUS G50V GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2Ghz - 2.2Ghz software-overclockable processor. OS: Windows Vista 64-bit RAM: 4GB DDR-667 Overall, I can run crysis fine on high with around 20FPS, and Far Cry 2 is fine too, but I get: Recommended settings: Resolution: 1366x768 Textures: Medium Render: High Other draw distance and crap: around 25 for draw, 35 for detail, etc. Shadows: 4 Average FPS: Around 13-17 My settings: Resolution: 1024x640 Textures: Medium Render: Low Draw distance and details: 22-11 Shadows: 1 Average FPS: Around 15-20 Okay. something is seriously screwed with this game. Even if I overclock it .2Ghz, and raise the clock/memory 100Mhz, it just raises FPS around 1-2 more. Things to note: Daytime is more processor-intensitive than nighttime: At night, I get 15-30 FPS, at day, I get 10-20FPS. Fog is very costly on resources. Avoid foggy mornings - I usually get around 10-14FPS on those. Overall, it's playable, but... yeah, need optimizations. Playing on 180.48 driver with modded .inf from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com Any of you guys have a 9600m GT DDR 3? I'm getting IV in like 2 days when I get back into town... The 9700M GT DDR3 is the exact same thing as the 9600M GT overclocked. You won't get better than I do unless you have a better CPU in your lappy. Breadman86
Okay, so THIS is nuts. I have a new macbook, one of the aluminum ones they released in october (you know, green, blah blah blah, not a macbook pro though). I installed Vista Ultimate using Bootcamp. I then installed GTA IV. It runs BETTER on that macbook laptop running bootcamp than my mid-range desktop. My desktop on everything 100% lowest runs it WORSE than a macbook dual-booting vista on just 90% low settings.
fcam1387
I've got the 9600M GT on Vista 64. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the latest driver is the 180.70 on laptopvideo2go... Also, I'm wondering whether there are any reliability issues with installing a driver not provided for by the manufacturer (HP in my case)? Is this something to worry about - should I wait until the manufacturer releases the update? Furthermore, are these updates inclusive of the previous ones - or do I have to download each one separately?
greycat
I'm on an Asus F8: Duo T5750 2 Ghz 3 GB Ram Ati Radeon HD 3650 with 1 GB Vram The game is quite slow/laggy unless I crank everything way down (I haven't tried the absolute lowest settings yet - I need to try that next). At around medium settings, I get maybe 15 FPS with lots of textures popping in and out, black noise in some places (like posters), and audio lag in the cut scenes. It really isn't playable at this point, even though I technically meet the minimum requirements. Actually, that's something I'm not sure about. I can find very little information about how a MOBILITY ATI Radeon stacks up to desktop versions. I also can't find the latest driver, which probably doesn't help either. No luck on the Asus or ATI sites. I'm hoping that the new driver being released on Dec 10th will support mobility cards as well! Fallout 3 is very playable at mid-range settings, same with Assassin's Creed. The funny thing with GTA4 is that low settings aren't even a matter of less eye candy (simplified textures, less lighting, etc) - it actually means visual degradation, something I haven't seen in a video game before! Moreover video memory usage has decreased from 95% to 59%. Dunno if its good but game runs smoother now. Waiting for more improvements with R* patch...
