If you have an ATI try this... Install the beta drivers at http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=280709

Restart your computer, then start the game. Hit the Windows button to get back to the desktop when you see the game menu. Close the Social Crap application and get back to the game.

I've done this and I managed to play about 1 hour without the RESC10 error and no freezes.

also tried the 8.12 beta catalyst driver, and it works now!

now i just have to get rid of the sh*tty locking shadows..

and some Antialiasing would be fine confused.gif

the new beta driver works for an hour or so, after it crashes then it goes back to the every 15 min crash.

oKAY, i'VE FINALLY MADE it running after 3 days of struggle getting resc10 error, losing my hope

resc10 error is gone now.

i dont exactly know what caused this, but what i did today:

-i removed /3gb switch from boot.ini

-i installed newest custom forceware from guru3d.com

-i made some registry cleaning

-i made pagefile (virtual memory) setting from manual to automatic (set by windows)

-i removed lot of unnecessary startup processes with some software that allows to do this

and today totally surprised played this great game for 8 constant hours without single crash.

I wish you can find the solution too!

The game runs really good if you find some balanced settings.

And the game itself is great.

This usually caused by the old driver. I have this error before and after I update my driver from Nvidia, it starts running. By that time, I am using the old graphics card GeFORCE7300gs with dual core 2g so the game run completely slow. Now I updated the graphics card with better cpu, the game is running good.

I've had the resc10 for quite a while now and after trying everything I decided to finally delete the 3gb switch in boot.ini

And voila!!! No problems whatsover - GTA IV working fine! Call of Duty WAW now works too!!

It seems that the 3gb switch is not appreciated by the majority of games on XP.

Give it a go.

From MS:

The /3GB parameter is supported on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. On Windows Vista and later versions of Windows, use the IncreaseUserVA element in BCDEdit.

So you will not find this switch in Vista or Seven.

Find the boot.ini file in the root folder of the disk you boot from. For Windows this is usually the C:\ drive.

Be very careful with this file, if you screw it up your Windows may not boot. It is best to make a copy of the file before you make any changes.

Open the boot.ini file with any plain text editor, Notepad will work well. Find the (usually) last line which will look something like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

If you see this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /3Gb

then you have the /3gb switch installed. This line is case insensitive - "3GB" or "3gb" or "3Gb" are the same.

Just edit the line to remove the "/3gb" from the line, save the file and you must reboot Windows to cause this change to take effect.

You can also use the program "msconfig". Run msconfig, select the boot.ini tab and make the change there.

I prefer to use an ordinary text editor because that process reminds me that I might need to copy the file first since I'm opening the file from the folder that it's in.

How do I turn off the 3GB switch in Vista?

Step by step would be greatly appreciated.

Captain Hemorrhoid

My RESC10 error went away after I set virtual memory from C: (which has my XP install) to F: (which is mostly empty, and different HD), used the maximum recommended size 4989 MB for min and max page file size. No RESC10 so far after that.

So in my case it had nothing to do with viedo card drivers, at least directly. I already didn't have the /3GB extension in my boot.ini, so it wouldn't have helped me. I urge you to check your virtual memory settings, and try something new with them.

I Just downloaded the latest patch which took care of the 'GTA IV FATAL ERROR: RESC10' But the game is now showing everything grey a few inches past the front of the vehicle being driven in the game. It kinda feels like driving in a fog. I tried to adjust the graphic settings but that doesn't help. My resource usage is at 241 / 242MB. Mostly everything is set to low. The graphic looks awful compared to the playstation version.

Damn...

Same here. My game run really smoothly all in high and i still have free video memory (in green fonts, so I have a little margin)

But always this f*cking Fatal Error: RESC10. facedesk.gif

I'm greatly disappointed by Rockstar now. sarcasm.gif

After 4 patches there are still unresolved issues all over the internet... mad.gif

What the hell Rockstar?

What are you doing?

Stop masturbation and go to work! devil.gif

I begin to understand why most people download games illegally.

When you buy a game too buggy and not finished... (Or finished with the feets, maybe)

All this to make more money putting the game on sale at Christmas.

The video game industry PC is in freefall.

This becomes the "great no matter what.

Soon 1 year after its release in France, I don't know anyone around me able to play on PC.

Requires a PC powerful enough, too many bugs, too many crashes, too much manipulation for fixed a lot of problems..

There are many small problems that Rockstar should have already set in their previous patches.

We talk about the error RESC10 since the release of the game when there was no patch.

And many of us still have this problem after 4 patches that made no difference. Nothing changed for me...

Wait and see, wait and hope... barf8bd.gif
