Malik
Oh my god... i read comments of people who havent played/tested the game yet on the PC. And those people are cursing and all, blaming Rockstar etc. What is up with all those guys? You are seriously overreacting. I would say we wait until tomorrow when all Europe and the other countries have the game. Also to calm you guys down: Do you think that those people who can play it without problems, will go on a forum and post about it? NO, they will play it 24/7. All the bad reports your seeing are from people who can not play due to major or minor errors, and of course those people have plenty of time to post plenty bad comments and reports. So all chill out until you play it yourself. So you want us to buy a game at full price and then see we cant play it for sh*t nice theory

Ftmch
I got the game today, and the performance is awful. My specs: Vista 32bit, Sp1 2.4Ghz Core2Duo Radeon HD4870 3,25gb RAM (actually 2x2gb Corsair RAM, but 32bit can't use it all, right?) Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro ultra turbo super or whatever soundcard. Pleeenty of disk-space. The framerate is very low even with ALL settings on the lowest, this is a joke. I mean, yeah, the processor isn't above the recommended specs, but the rest is, it shouldn't run THIS badly should it?

This proves R* sucks ass off with this very horrible optimized game. Its like Bully! 15-20FPS on HD4870, thats very smoothley....
DexX
Clip CaptureAt any time during the game (single or multiplayer), press the F2 key to dump a chunk of footage to your hard drive. Depending on how data intensive things are in the world at that time, the clip should be about 30 seconds to a minute long. Captured footage will be the action that occurs PRIOR to pressing F2. Note that if you have a slower machine, you also have the option to turn off this feature altogether. Has anyone tried turning the replay feature OFF, and seeing how, or if it affects performance? Caching 30-60 seconds of everything going on in the world has got to eat up some system resources. Worth a try, anyway.

Alucard155
Since I'm unable to do the minigames like bowling because the mouse doesn't respond to the movements that you're directed to do in the tutorial, I would have to say this is quite a bad port.... All I'm saying is that you really can't know for sure unless you try it yourself. There are so many variables to a pc that a lot of people don't take in to account. A lot of people that own pc's want them to be as a console, plug and play. And everything will be fine. But you need to take care of your pc in many ways. From defraging to formats every so often, many more things I won't get into now. It's all good, I'm not trying to say your wrong just saying what works for me. Time and time again. Zorgus
@Zorgus... I'm in your boat, UK gamer, reading the awful initial running specs from others and who also owns an 8800GTX I'll let you know how GTA runs on my machine and hopefully we'll progress all with similar rigs... I'll be running on an AMD Phenom x4 @ 2.4Ghz - 8800GTX 768 (630/1800) @ 1650x1050 (ForceWare 180.48) - Vista32-DX10 - 4G 1066 Ram - Hope and a Prayer! I've been testing my system, i only have Crysis-wars installed at the moment which always plays beautifully (mostly) with everything cranked up at my native resolution, it's taken a few patches and drivers to get there though - FarCry2, Assassins Creed, Dead Space, GRID, Brothers in Arms, Fallout3, what ever always good, always good frame rates, playable and decent, above 35 FPS+ - You would think my 1650x1050 resolution would be a stumbling block as far as frames rates are concerned, but not at all, so i hope...GTA-IV will serve us well, if not...call it Version 1.0. Do you have the tendency like i (maybe most with good cards) to just crank everything up and see what happens? first hit... I do, then see what needs shaving off and cutting down, if anything! - the games i have tried over the last few months (going back a year or more now) haven't proved any problem, i make sure my machine is resource free and de-fragged etc before i expect problems, looks like GTA has a draw-distance setting thats going to cost me a couple of new GFX cards into the future - Hopefully ok, but the more i read these forums, the more i still want to play it -13th No sh*t man, so alike... let me know how it goes.. and ill do the same, your pc's a bit more over spec'd too then mine.. so i wish you the best.. but seriously.. looking at these posts all over the forum is upsetting me... i mean ffs, why cant they ask valve for a bit of help making a pc game, there the only ones that know how to make a pc game look its best, and run smooth as butter, yeah man! maybe we should ask valve to make a gta style game lol.... Ftmch
I does make me sad the the game isn't even running well on the lowest possible settings, even though I have a 2.4 dualcore, radeon HD4870 and 4gb RAM (although only about 3,15 is used by 32bit Vista I belive). I mean, I don't have to max games to enjoy them, but damn, atleast let them run fine on minimun settings when most of my computer meets the recommended specs. Rockstar1
Nah. I just think that the problem is about ATI. So far what I've seen only ATI guys complaining about bad performance with HD 4870 and Quad Core. No one with Nvidia haven't saying anything. I guess they are playing and not experiencing any problems . Even one guy with 8800GT told that it runs fine and he has no problems. So I'm 95% sure that the problem is about ATI drivers or whatever. I even think that nvidia and rockstar made some deal (like rockstar and microsoft did for exclusive content)to make the performance on nvidia cards better then on ATI. Still in denial I see ? I told you yesterday your rig probably wasn't going to run this game on high/maxed out without massive slow down. And now we have multiple user reports confirming that fact. It seems like ATI users are having more problems, but even guys with GTX 280s say it runs poorly. I have to agree with the OP thesis. GTA4 PC appears to be a bad port. Rockstar probably thought most PC gamers would pirate it anyways, that's why it didn't come out until 6 months after console release. It's already sold like 8 million copies on PS3/X360. I will be surprised if PC version sells 500,000 copies. They didn't want to spend millions of dollars optimizing for PC when they make most of their money from consoles. Redmadlad
I've had the game running since this morning but not very well, its jittery and slow, doesn't look smooth at all. On system requirements lab my PC passed all the tests, but my NVIDIA GeForce 8600GS seems to be the problem. Anyone recommend a good upgrade on that video card ? And what price would i be looking at to get the game running smooth ?

So do you think i would be best leaving it a couple of weeks to see if any patch released will aid the running of the game ? I'm from the Uk, and $150-400 is like what, £100-280. Thats reasonable enough for an upgrade.
