Grand Theft Auto IV Screenshots

nice pics do you really need a quad core to run it on the highst settings?

dunno, we didn't have the chance yet to run it on multiple systems. But the other PC i saw it running on is a dual... and it ran smooth

ok becuse i have a dual core 2 e8500 with a nvidia 9600gt as grafical card much people already told me i can play it on high so i hope i can play it on high tounge.gif

LOL good luck getting even it on medium colgate.gif

Are you kidding me? No AA? That should be the main graphics feature to be included I can't believe its not in there. Can someone confirm this?

watno.

AA is - by far -the most expensive feature to implement, in terms of performance. lusers are already having trouble running the game anyway, AA would compound their performance issues.

I dunno, maybe its just me, but i thought more traffic, draw distance, and other enhancements were more important than some silly "jaggies".

Yeah, you're probably right since IV is way too big of a map to use AA on every jagged edge in the game. I guess its fine for smaller mapped games though like COD4 and 5. The jagged edges look pretty bad in the screenies but I bet it won't look as bad when in motion. I'm sure there will be a patch out to fix most problems hopefully soon.

Bingo.

I would struggle with anything more than 2AA, even with Farcry 2 at 1920x1200 at 4AA = Few minutes of fun followed by Ultras saying NO, followed by reboot and AA setting drop.

The jaggies are FA compared to their console counterparts too. wink.gif

People just need to turn their settings down instead of bullsh*tting themselves that their PC can take it, draw distance being the main one. The consoles used the DOF blurr to hide the poor draw distance and give the effect that the game was running smoothly.

Not mine, A friend sent these to me

Apparently the posters specs are:

Intel QX 6800 @3Ghz

ASUS Maximus Extreme X38

4 GB DDR3 OCZ 1800

ATI 4870x2

Asus Xonar D2X

Toughpower 1000 watt power supply

Not sure about the Frame Rate

Those pics look decent. Compared to the rest.

But what do you except from a 4870

4870x2 wink.gif

so that 2gb VRAM lol I doubt alot of people here have that kind of videocards

A Boring Finn

Thank you guys for telling me where to find these low graphic screenshots. I think they were alright for me. For now I got a question for you: Are the lowest graphics on PC as good as on consoles in this game? Or maybe graphics of console version are better than PC low ones? Hopefully you understood the question though my English is not so clear.

these pictures should come with warnings about spike edges becuase they could take your eye out.

Jokes aside

AA is important because jaggies make the gamer horiffic, no matter how good graphics are jaggies can ruin the look. I am suprised GTA didn't go the Crysis route and have a sort of fake AA going that blurs edges, it works really well

Yes, better from what I have seen so far.

I also own a pS3 version so that is my comparison to the pics, tommorow I will own the PC version and then I will know for sure.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.21 Ghz

2GB Of RAM

To be completely fair in regards to AMD and Intel, I honestly would not expect great performance from the Athlon X2s at all. Phenom's might be another story, but clock speeds are not the only thing that should be taken into effect.

The release of the E8000 series from Intel boasted awesome numbers, while they were not much above the 6750,6850 series, if much at all, newer games coming out that are cpu intensive such as GTA4 will utilize much more this little thing called a cache. We've all seen how little of a difference AMD's L3 cache makes in terms of performance in gaming, and if you dig around on the anandtech articles, you will find a stunning article about Unreal Tournament 3 that shows just how well the L2 cache scales directly proportional to the FPS. Higher the L2 cache, the higher the performance. Although UT3 suffered from a deminishing return past the 4mb mark, and the game was pulling 110+ some odd FPS, but a game like GTA4 that is supposedly supposed to be optomized for multi-core processors I think will see the biggest performance hits on AMD X2s and Phenoms, and i'm not just saying this to harp on AMD or to even brag like an Intel fanboy. I have been with AMD for years until I jumped boat.

My rig is as follows:

Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0

2GB PC2 6400

8800 GTS 640 @ 900/1800

XP /w SP3

I will not be able to test the game until later tonight because Steam is ass and isn't releasing til about 6 CST. I do however expect decent results only because I run Crysis @ 1680x1050 with everything set to high + r_useedgeaa = 2, along with r_sunshafts = 1. My FPS steadies around 25 which is about as low as it goes, and it barely drops past 23 on ice levels, if at all. FarCry 2 also runs astoundingly well with everything on ultra and 4x AA on my native res, and it pumps about 40fps. I honestly have the weirdest luck with games so I will hopefully report back after the game unlocks.

That your rig maxes crysis doesnt mean a thing, gta 4 is bugged or something cause if you look around the forums at what people are getting with high end systems youll laugh yourself out of these forums

Yeah the guys with top end graphics cards are getting a little bit of fail out of IV so imagine all the guys with the mediocre cards thinking they can run things smoothly. Even i'm doubting my PC right now. sad.gif

But hey! this is less than 1 day after release we still got plenty of time ahead of us for patches an mods an crap to fix up these little bugs... Hopefully.

Just finished watching Fellowship of the Ring and I see my thread has reached 12 pages mercie_blink.gif

I'll do a bit more tinkering tomorrow after having done a full virus, spyware and defrag check during the movie (it's a long movie). I'm still not holding out much hope and if I'm not satisfied within 7 days then it'll be returned to EB for a refund.

I'm 95% sure that I will run it good with my Core 2 E8400 3.0 4GB ATI HD4870 Vista 64bit.

I don't care what most of you are saying because some have XP with SP1 or 2 (GTA4 recommended was SP3), some have 4GB ram with Vista 32bit. You must be doing something wrong. It's not possible that all 4870 owners can't play the game. Most of them are probably playing it at the moment not posting here.

Good luck. I have the exact same system as you except 32 bit vista instead.

We aren't "doing something wrong" because there is nothing to do wrong. You fiddle with the settings and have a go. So far, it's a massive fail.

Believe me, I'd have been playing it if possible.
