i got the game today im really enjoying it..dont know whats all the hype about it looking like sh*t..

yea it kinda does but the game is really cool doesnt put me off playing with meh graphics

fps is good for me..playable most of the time!!!

Running at 1280x1024, med, med, 10,10,10,0 on P4 3.4, ATi 3850 512, XP SP3, pretty good frame rates considering (15-25fps), runs smooth and lookin' good.

So, since Thales has 1920x1200 with everything else set to full, yet only a 32-bit o/s, the same memory, only a couple o' notches higher than you in the GPU department (according to this) but has a Qx9650 over your E8400 (dual core?), I'm going to guess the CPU matters a sh!tload more than I ever thought.

BTW, anyone got a CPU version of this? I'm sick of the utter lack of comparison information betwixt Intel's OWN chips let alone between Intel and AMD CPUs.

I dunno, Thales. I was never a fan of it but now I've seen how little difference it made on your rig -- ur screenshots STILL look fantastic.

Yes, but the GTX 280 has 1 GB of VRAM, 2x more than that 4870, and im running at 1680 x 1050. But in fact CPU do matter a lot in GTA 4, no doubt. Playing the game at 1680 x 1050, all max settings, you notice the severe drop in GFX quality when you enable Blur.

Intel quads are all great, generally speaking the higher the clock = better CPU. Get rid of AMD, Intel rules dude.
