Don't ask what the settings were, i kept changing them to see the various effects. i'll do something more comprehensive and indepth later.

No bugs yet, No crashes, No weirdness, the framerate is more or less stable. i'm playing @ 1280x1024x60hz (my monitors max) and while i don't know the exact frame rate, it was, by my standards, easily playable.

Textures are capped to "medium", but i can max everything else. No command-line experiments yet.

system specs;

Win Vista Home Premium 64bit w/sp1

Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 @2.5hz

Geforce 9800gt 512 (just one, not even sure it can run sli)

old forceware drivers that i installed some time in September..

6gb system ram - 2gb of that is allocated for video use

I haven't even touched my video card settings yet either, there more optimizations i could do - for starters, i probably don't need to be running in "Muli Display Performance mode", when i only have 1 display adapter.

How do you set RAM to graphic memory? i have 4 gigs of mem but vista shows only 3, so i wonder how can allocate the 1gb of ram to the video?

if you have 4GB of RAM on your 32bit os and only about 3GB shows up in your OS it's cause the rest is already used to address your graphics card. you dont have to change anything. your os will only show the available RAM, as in the available memory for your os to use, which is 4gb - whatever your io devices use, in your case your graphics card 1gb plus some other minor stuff im sure. you're already maxed out and it's a good thing.

runs fine for me, I was on XP SP2, but updated to SP3 without trying to see if the game would run

thats gotta be the best benchmark ive seen so far on this game. congratulations.

You make me jelous. What rig do you have? Just curiosity.

+1

Q6600 OC to 3.2GHz

1GB 9800 GX2

8GB DDR2 1066

RAID 0

Vista Ultimate x64

Probably $500 in components there - not that the RAM makes much of a difference.

from the fact u can run the game while others with better cards can't shows that there's something really wrong here.

i wish i could run the game on my machine that will look like that and more than that - i wish R* will supply a patch that makes the game run well on everyone's machines as well as it runs on yours.

Still working fine. Rescaled from 1920x1200.

Nice pics Mercie, shows the traffic diversity off nicely.

Looks like PC deosnt suffer as badly as consoles when it comes to the same 15 cars in a row syndrome.

So, if you're lucky enough to get the game running.. It looks like crap.

Honestly, what is with the pixelated shadows/everything else? Half-Life had better looking shadows in 1998. Apparently this is what the game is supposed to look like, it's not glitching. Jesus H. Christ, better just pray for a community fix..

edit - http://www.isarapix.org/pix33/1228306157.png Nice textures. icon13.gif This is with textures on 'medium'.

Hi, been poking around many of the threads and realised I wasn't alone in suffering.

AMD Athlon 64 4200+ X2

7900 GS 256 Mb

4 gb RAM

XP SP3

I tried benchmarking last night but it ended up with terrible pixels all over the screen, so I skip forward a few scenes and find myself in the car with no map (that is, only the markers but no road, borders etc.) and when I press ESC I get nothing much as well..

Had to alt-f4 to quit the game, tried loading it again only to find this time I couldn't see anything beyond 1cm of the car (I exaggerate but I'm sure there are enough screens out there that illustrate this point)

I tried playing it again today but no joy, as with the benchmarking test I find myself with absolutely no map and am unable to even load the menu.

I enjoy gaming as much as the next person but I'll admit that I'm a layman when it gets technical. I have the latest drivers for my card, and only recently reinstalled XP. I spent 30 mins installing the game and then another 20 mins cutting through the "MUST" have Games for Windows and Social Club, only to find that the game doesn't work very well.. Needless to say I am among the hundreds if not thousands of disappointed gamers out there who spent money hoping that Rockstar would repay our faith in waiting for the PC version of this game.

But more on the topic, if anyone wants screens of what I'm talking about I'll try to post them though I doubt they'd be any different from what I've seen floating around.

Flickering/eye-hurting shadows?

any1 else experiencing "flickering" shadows (sorry, dont know how to describe better, and cant show you the effect with screenies, as its happens in motion) - shadows "flickering", looks "artifacted", vibrating, hurting my eyes like hell - happens with all the shadow density settings (from zero to max, to be honest, i cant see any diff when im changing shadow density)

also i cant turn off the shadows, as there isnt any option for that.

Running the game at 1024*768/low/high/medium sliders, fps okay (average 25), tho there are awfull texture pop-ups,

also the game looks like ***** jaggies are ugly like hell (kinda like a game from 1998).

But.. i can go with the ugly look BUT this shadow thingie causing me a headache and my eyes burn after 10 mins of playing. So there is any tweak to get rid of the ugly shadows, or make'em looks "okay"?

thanks,

rig:

Intel(core)2DUO E6550 2.33Ghz

Nvidia8600GTS

2GB ram

XP+servicepack3

ps: some1 compared this to HalfLife1 - i think Half Life1 looked waaaaaay better than GTAIVPC at the moment.

A few screenies all on the fullest settings it will allow me, I actualy have 2Gb of video ram but it doesn't pick it up sad.gif

I am one of the unlucky ones who the command line doesn't work for.

All these bugs will be fixed soon, need to e-mail them to let them know or post somewhere, i'm not sure.

Anyway, it's running ok, FPS seems ok on very high settings, but the FPS lowers a lot on highest settings wink.gif

The one thing I noticed that annoys me is the shadows look like the crappy ones of the console, some of them don't seem solid enough and almost looks like spraypaint, pc shadows are usualy amazing, this is something they need to fix.

Yes, pixelated, flickering shadows, like someone painted them with a jaggy sponge. It's impossible to play, my eyes are running.

I notice that when the scene moves around I get static pixels around certain areas, mostly in the middle horizontal plane of the screen. These disappeared when the game started, but they obviously make for a horrible cutscene..

I seem to get either the full textures but absolutely no map/menu options or a missing textures (nothing rendered directly in front of me, something like an hollow box in my screen) scene with the game.

Plus I don't really understand why I have to log in to the Social Club and GFWL just to play the SP game..

But I also don't get the option to resist any change any of my graphics settings, even bumping to medium leads to the little warning about exceeding resources which then locks it at medium, leaving me unable to change any other setting.

I understand that the current crop of games will tax my old 7900 GS to no end, which is why I'm planning an upgrade, but if the blokes running top end rigs get the same problems sometimes then what hope is there for my humble card right now? As far as minimum requirements go, this has got to take the cake for understating it..
