4870HD Grahpics problem - Auto settings = low? WTF

NOT OFFICIAL as I have no proof, but seeing as the 8.12 drivers due out dec 10th are already released to ATI's testers it is safe to assume that the hotfix we all want won't be included.

 

So here's hoping R* releases a patch seeing as more and more nvidia users are reporting performance issues in addition to us ATI users.

 

Just thought I'd update since short of R* coming to the rescue, were not gonna see a quick fix.

Just out of interest what do you use to overclock your processor? I think ill look into it as im only running my Q6600 on 2.4 stock, but crysis and fo3 run really well regardless.

Bios is the only (not really but its by far the best way) to overclock. Just search google for Q6600 overclocking and a ton of reliable pages should come up. If its your first time make sure you pay special attention to temps.

for oc'ing i just used the bios, it involves a bit more research beforehand but its a much safer bet, you can find some really good Q6600 overclocking guides around the internet, Google is your friend :]

in any case i wouldnt use any software based overclockers for you cpu, i have heard many bad things :x

Let me just say... PATIENCE!!! hehe

 

It took me a long time to find the sweet spot for my processor (E8500 @a mild 3.8ghz). Take your time and don't rush anything and you will get a nice OC on the 6600.

 

Oh also search the net for intelburntest when it comes time to stress test. Its far far faster than prime 95. Takes 20-40 mins and stresses far harder opposed to prime 95's 24 hour + test.

Well, just got registered to this forum.

I had the same problem like you guys.

 

Couldnt max out the texture quali...

 

My PC: intel quadcore 6700 @ 2.66

            4 gig ram

           Geforce 9800 GTX 512 mb

           Vista ultimate 64 bit

           Playing on a 22 inch @ 1650 x 1080

 

I got past the texture restrictions by using the -norestrictions command, so now i can max it all out, the game runs at an acceptable framerate but still it looks crappy, as if there is no antialias at all and shadows are just poor and stuff....

 

I'm so freaking mad right now......

 

Having read through most of this thread it made no sense that it was ATI driver related problem only.

im using an ATI 3870.

 

try reading the readme file, its there for a reason

 

edit your shortcut to look something like this:

 

"E:\Games\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestrictions

 

you will then be able to max out settings.

 

all you people that dont even own the game and have started blaming ati can (insert expletive here) off.

 

im off to play GTA IV.

My playing experience so far, freaking CRAP. Medium texture and I get horrid FPS.

There is no AA in this game. It lacks the feature altogether, and forcing it through the drivers doesn't seem to work.

 

People are already getting 15-30 fps on average without it. No AA may be a good thing, as it would only decrease performance further.

I honestly don't believe it's a driver issue IMO. From what I understood from the mod this game offers NO AA. Since this games offers no AA option there must be a reason for that. If that' doesn't grab your attention nothing will.

If there is no AA in this title there must be a reason for it. Is there something a driver update can fix in this game? Hard to say but as you already put it a fix from R* maybe the best solution so far.

its fiercely false. Theres not very many cards on the market that have 1024mb of GPU memory.

Nearly every new card released has the 1024mb otpion, and 2GB option as well now

I stated in another post that i think that AA is acutally inbuilt into the game although it doesn't say.

 

Look, i may be very wrong but if you actually own the game and walk down a street, or even if you are watching the cutscene in Roman's appartment, you can clearly see that AA is being used in my opinion.

You have to right click on a shortcut not the original .exe

 

 

 

There is no way AA is not in this game, after those pictures I have seen, I will be very surprised if it's not in the coding.

What view distance do people play this on? I have mine on 11, its the only distance I get that runs so it is playable even though occassionaly I get big slow downs.

i cant get high textures as well, and yes i have tried all combinations of command line parameters they give us in the readme

 

i have two 3870 X2's running crossfire X yet the game limits me to 500mb video ram

the only thing i can think of is that yes i have 512mb per GPU

but i have a total of 2048mb of video ram

 

also when i add the command line parameters it launches a GTAIV command prompt window, then closes

the only one that has worked is the -benchmark

I'm not running a D2D or Steam copy, I have a retail copy
