mehmetali you are wrong...don't you understand gpu's or something?

please understand that the 4870HD is a really really really good card......if it can run crysis full high settings at 60fps at 1900x1280 then it can run gta4....

now sniper, how do we unrestrict? where do you get that command line?

And if you look at the box the reccomended grahpics cards are WAY older than my one, therefore mine should be more than capable.

I think i won't be the only one getting this problem

i know very well indeed buddy.

but its gta IV u know.not crysis or some other sh*t.Its obvious that u need a 1024mb of gpu memory

maybe u sould lower ur res. and then try to set the setimgs max.

No, its not obvious to me. Since when does a game nowdays need 1 GB of VRAM?

user posted image

when u get that warning

Lower ur resolution and traffic density then... Ur probably are trying to run it with High/Very High and 1920x1200 or something?

...are the menus mouse enabled? I don't like the look of that space bar for apply.

Yeah...its the telltale signs of a kinda bad port from a console game but doesn't matter.

Even if i run on 1024x760 i still can't max out grahpics.

Doesn't matter which way ppl look at it, this system should be able to run this game MAX

Yep of course mouse enabled, just a little unessecary that you can also press spacebar etc (instead of START on a console lol)

My rig settings? Do you mean specs? As my OP said.

Q6600 2.4 quad core

ATi 4870HD

4gig ram

Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit w/ SP1

Latest drivers, do you have them? Also, check your GPU extra power connectors.

If all else fails, modify the game config files to meet your desired settings.

(just remember to backup)

Now:

Solution: Buy NVIDIA.

Why would we want one of those over-priced power hogs turn.gif

As for the command at the end of the path? Risky and dodgy i wouldn't trust myself lol.

No it's not

Should not be a problem with HD4870

Adding to the command line isn't risky. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work and you just change it back.

So it would be something like C:\...rockstargames\gta4.exe" -norestrictions

Worth a shot anyways.

I don't have the game yet (not until the 5th), so I can't tell you exactly what to do.

If the game even has a config file, it should end with something like .cfg and when opened in notepad,

contain something like the following:

TrafficDensity=high

TextureDetail=low

etc.

It's probably way more cluttered but should be easy enough to make out i'd suppose.

Just remember to make a copy of any files before you touch them to stay on the safe side.

If the game doesn't run, just delete the edited file and paste the old one back in.

Anyone with a 4870 have this game "working as intended" IE able to set graphic settings to max? Was going out to pick up my copy in a few hours but if this is what I have in store as the OP seems to be plagued by, I will reconsider.

Thanks in advance.

And lol @ the guy on page 1 going on about video cards when he obviously knows nothing /rant off

I hope in the end that it will be able to be maxed with that card, otherwise my 8800GTS doesn't stand a chance...

It should easially be maxed by the 4870. Which is why this is some sort of bug. Was wondering if the OP was a rare case or if it was the norm fort he 4870 series as a bug. Won't be buying it if I cant max the crap out of it after building this new rig not long ago tounge.gif

So any 4870's out there running on high or is everyone with one stuck on low?

I have the same problem. It's pathetic. I have a 4870, 3.0GHz dual core and 4 gig ram on Vista 32bit.

It will only let me do medium textures and I can only get the view distance up to 65/100

I did a benchmark and not only did the game look about as good as GTA III but it only ran at an FPS of about 35. Same deal when I started a new game...before it crashed like usual.

Buggy garbage imo.

Hmmm guess I won't buy it for now then, at least until there is some confirmation that someone with a 4870 is able to adjust there in game settings or if there is a config file fix of some sort. Not shelling out good money for something that isn't working as advertised even if it is just a "bug" sad.gif

E8500 @ 3.8ghz

4gb Patriot 1066mhz ram

vista 64

Visiontek 4870 @ 790 / 1000mhz

22" widescreen lcd 1680 X 1050

I"ll be damned if I pay for a game that won't let me max visuals with that rig.

Sounds like GTA IV is off to a rough start... figures.

It's just ATi with their god damned drivers as usual. There will be a hotfix in few days/weeks.

I had problems running Far Cry 2, messed up textures and stuff. Driver update fixed everything.

There must be something yous are missing. There must be a setting your not used to in game or some where that you have to unlock or what not. Keep looking. Good luck on this though...(laughs at ATI)

A likely culprit, hopefully if this is the case it gets fixed in 8.12. Having to wait almost 2 months to see this fixed would be lame.

Seriously.

I've had both ATI and Nvidia, both are good. I just happen to have Nvidia right now since it was the best when I built my rig. BUT, let's hope it's only the same situation it was with Farcry2 and it just needs a hotfix.

Hi fellas,

Looks like this post is going to be a big one, and hopefully one which can help out many people in the future when some resolutions are made.

The end ruling:

"Guys...we just have to wait this out"

What I did to try and fix the "cannot access max settings bug":

In a word, almost everything. I have every driver update yadda yadda i can get.

I even added the -norestrictions command to the end of the command line - it doesn't do anything!

For us with 1337 GPU's, the MAX we can play at at 1900xwhatever is Medium Texture (although you can put shaders to max, but it doesn't really look good since the textures are terribad at medium)

Just have to wait it out guys ! sad.gif

Right now I'm feeling good about not getting the game for some two weeks. There is a positive side to anything biggrin.gif

jupiter, are you sure you have all of these installed

- SP1 for Vista or SP3 for XP

- ATI driver 8.11

- .net 3.5

Trivial question, but I just wanted to be sure.

The recommended specs are:

Recommended System Requirements

Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3

2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Quad or 2.1GHz AMD Phenom X3

2.5 GB of RAM (Windows XP) or 2.5 GB of RAM (Windows Vista)

18 GB Free Hard Drive Space

512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

How come you say GTA 4 need 1GB of GPU memory...if that's true...damn all of us have to bring a new graphics card...well most of us.

Hope that's some bug and will be solved with a patch... smile.gif
