TiRANB
Just install the new drivers directly. Just press next next next. I know u could use Driversweeper and things, but this always works for me. Is that it? I thought that you need to uninstall the drivers first then install the new driver... Sorry I haven't done this for a long time or it's the new way!

Rightrix
Well my gameplay in this game I have felt has been "OK" Here are my benchmark results Statistics Average FPS: 37.68 Duration: 37.63 sec CPU Usage: 69% System memory usage: 50% Video memory usage: 99% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 800 x 600 (56 Hz) Texture Quality: Low Render Quality: Medium View Distance: 4 Detail Distance: 100 Hardware Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition Service Pack 2 Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Video Driver version: 175.16 Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio output Intel® Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz I feel that my Quad Core processor and 4GB of RAM are really holding up the game and allowing it to sit at just under 40FPS - which means i can play the game and complete missions at a decent speed. However due to my under performing graphics card, the textures are very basic (in fact look similar to GTA SA). I'm going to purchase a GeForce 9800GTX+ 1GB tomorrow and hope that this help increase my FPS and allows me to see all the candy that the developers intended I don't own a console, and i've always said that games on PC's look better, I have to prove this to my mate with this game on his PS3 I will post updated benchmark when my new card is in. I am running it at 4.2GHz now and there is no end to the performance increase so far. We have similar systems so I think you should benefit. Elysian
heres some more findings just a quick run with my cpu at stock clock, this is 1280x960 with medium textures, you see at the end it dumped to 14-15fps, that was because it started raining, it didn't do that in the last run at overclocked speed. overall though, you can see, if there was any change, it was about 1fps or so, from a 500mhz reduction in clock speed. stock clocked on my graphics card, overclocked to 2.5ghz on my processor, same sort of thing, this time no rain, each time i've been chased by the cops because i figure that puts some more stress on the cpu... you can see it actually dips very low this time, even though there was no rain this time. my gpu overclock is 650 on the core(550 stock), 1625 on the shader clock(1375 stock), and 550 on the ram(500 stock). i can't wait to get my 9800gtx. Elysian
now heres a very interesting result. i overclocked my PCI Ex bus, a whole 6mhz, and this is what i got. granted, theres a dropout of about 13 seconds every couple of minutes, so i need to keep tweaking the overclock, but this is almost 100% during rain, while being chased by cops, and my average framerate looks to be the highest yet, sometimes even over 20fps, into the 24fps range
Dangel
Regarding the OC I was earlier advised to do : Here is what I did & my results : I overclocked my CPU to 3.6Ghz (4 CORES) with 1800FSB (using a ddr3 7-7-7-20) + some GPU tweaks. The test results DIDN'T changed dramatically (5-Frames improvement in the game) and in the benchmark I'm pushing 2-3 fps more. When I lower the CPU to 3.15ghz leaving the memory as it is gives me the result = 62FPS AVERAGE For me the memory OC plays a relatively much bigger role ! I have an average of 56FPS (30MIN-70MAX) in game. Sometime the lower FPS are not caused by some logical reason which leads me to the conclusion that the PC version is not well adapted (yet) and even with my relatively high end system it leaves me unsatisfied. It occurs unexplainably in the night & rain weather (probably because of the extra shadows and rain details / elements - which again are not supposed to give such a dramatic FPS decrease ) and it's probebly specially bothers the the low-mid PC users. So I hope the GTA developers will fix those flues in the next patch (or with other software solution) If you have managed to get some good OC or Software based improvements I'll love to hear. Dangel. Meki
Yesterday I read in a german magazine that GTA4 is the first game ever thats rises cpu-usage when rising the resolution. Actually that should be done by the gfx-card. I really think its strange this way, and this shows that there ist maybe just a little bug in the porting which hopefully will be found. LSD T
This thread has been active for a long time now, and I've been avidly paying attention to it and the most intriguing thing is that nobody so far has offered anything remotely close to what would establish them with a smooth 30+FPS at all times in-game. To get above 30FPS would require at least 80FPS(maybe 85) in the benchmark from my tests and calculations with various systems ranging from 2 Quad XEON HP servers to i7 x58 using 280 GTX's. So many 40FPS benchmarks from those who swear blind they run without a single stutter, and I know for a fact the 68FPS benchmarking machine I have had runs the game pretty shabbily in-game. I have several ISO images of various configurations of systems and the tightest most skinny footprint XP OS beats almost all benchmarks in 3DMark2006, Crysis, World in Conflict and any other game tested on it, however it becomes a poorly configured and maintained PC once GTAIV comes to the fray. My home machine runs brilliantly, GTAIV benchmarks on 62FPS at best, 62FPS benched translates to an in-game experience that runs like sh*t, 35FPS in daytime dropping randomly at the least expected points in the game where seemingly nothing too taxing is taking place. So again for all those with such monolithic systems that are having seamless faultless performance, please someone, anyone, show this with a short movie displaying the solid performance because there are a lot of angry people around the net on a multitude of forums who think that these claims are full of sh*t. It would be nice to disprove those whiners... ahem A standard daytime scene coupled with a visit to the Carwash and a short run through rain will suffice... I wont hold my breath.
