camdean
I have spent a long time trying to get the settings just right, as I keep getting the memory failure crash .. This is on a lower resolution but looks crap on my monitor .. This is on the native resolution and it looks real good .. I can put the settings up to my allowed maximum but it's a noticable drop in fps .. The second picture is actually a lower setting than my 'auto configure' option (draw distance is 36), the reason I changed this was to try and stop the memory crashes Nothing I can do seems to stop these random memory crashes yet. certainkindofo
For those who still can't delete xinput9_1_0.dll after setting full admin privileges in vista. Here is a fix. type 'cmd' in your search prompt. right click on the cmd icon and select, "run as administrator" type "takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\XInput9_1_0.dll" in command prompt and press enter type "cacls C:\Windows\System32\XInput9_1_0.dll /G nate:F" "my user name is nate, substitute yours there" Now you'll be able to delete/rename/etc... to the file. This will work for all system files as well, with the appropriate substitutions.

camdean
I managed to get the commands working on my LaunchGTAIV.exe -norestrictions -nomemrestrict I used this guide (Thanks Pestilence ) http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=379662 It didn't work the first time and I used the LaunchGTAIV.exe, after a few trys of leaving the game and trying again I was able to turn my settings right up, which made me think the -nomemrestrict was working I had a feeling the game wasn't using my VRAM to the full, so I really wanted -nomemrestrict to work, it helped my fps on the highest settings .. WARNING*** Please don't try this if you have low VRAM, I used it because I knew it wasn't using the full of my VRAM (If I turn everything up full it slows down just as it should, I don't expect 10 times better than the console) I'm hoping this will stop the 'REC10' no memory crashes for me, they went away for hours but then came back !! The higher texture settings did cause a significant (noticeable) FPS decrease, but the higher resolution textures are well worth having. The "High" texture setting required the "-nomemrestrict -norestrictions" command line, the recommended resource use is exceeded but the game runs fine. The dotnet 3.5 is NOT needed but it contains a dotnet 3.0 update to SP2. This is only used by the "Social Club" application so I'm not sure how it could affect the game itself, but oddly it seems to have an effect. My GTA4 ran better after the dotnet 3.5 SP1 install.
