I have spent a long time trying to get the settings just right, as I keep getting the memory failure crash ..

This is on a lower resolution but looks crap on my monitor ..

user posted image

This is on the native resolution and it looks real good ..

user posted image

I can put the settings up to my allowed maximum but it's a noticable drop in fps ..

user posted image

The second picture is actually a lower setting than my 'auto configure' option (draw distance is 36), the reason I changed this was to try and stop the memory crashes wink.gif

Nothing I can do seems to stop these random memory crashes yet.

I got 9 fps with my card. kinda sucks suicidal.gif

Whats your new card?

9800GT

9fps on 9800GT? What's your processor? It's probably holding back the overall performance being the bottleneck here.

Few words

Shadows are very ugly , just bad, but blur (P) helps a lot (hope patch will fix it). There were some framerate drops but nothing that can bother me. It is great game, I love it and won't be back here soon smile.gif

TRAFFIC DENSITY is awesome biggrin.gif On level I set (33) there is sometimes clean street, sometimes heavy traffic. Climate and humour is awesome. Sleep function on phone is very nice.Going back to LC biggrin.gif

For those who still can't delete xinput9_1_0.dll after setting full admin privileges in vista. Here is a fix.

type 'cmd' in your search prompt. right click on the cmd icon and select, "run as administrator"

type "takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\XInput9_1_0.dll" in command prompt and press enter

type "cacls C:\Windows\System32\XInput9_1_0.dll /G nate:F" "my user name is nate, substitute yours there"

Now you'll be able to delete/rename/etc... to the file. This will work for all system files as well, with the appropriate substitutions.

Average of 30 fps is BS. During regular gameplay it never goes above 30 so i dont see how thats the average. Its the MOST.

During the benchmark test i saw it go as low as 11.

I managed to get the commands working on my LaunchGTAIV.exe

-norestrictions -nomemrestrict

I used this guide (Thanks Pestilence icon14.gif )

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=379662

It didn't work the first time and I used the LaunchGTAIV.exe, after a few trys of leaving the game and trying again I was able to turn my settings right up, which made me think the -nomemrestrict was working

I had a feeling the game wasn't using my VRAM to the full, so I really wanted -nomemrestrict to work, it helped my fps on the highest settings ..

user posted image

WARNING*** Please don't try this if you have low VRAM, I used it because I knew it wasn't using the full of my VRAM wink.gif

(If I turn everything up full it slows down just as it should, I don't expect 10 times better than the console)

I'm hoping this will stop the 'REC10' no memory crashes for me, they went away for hours but then came back !!

Notes:

The higher render setting did not change the FPS (negligible FPS hit).

The higher texture settings did cause a significant (noticeable) FPS decrease, but the higher resolution textures are well worth having.

The "High" texture setting required the "-nomemrestrict -norestrictions" command line, the recommended resource use is exceeded but the game runs fine.

The dotnet 3.5 is NOT needed but it contains a dotnet 3.0 update to SP2. This is only used by the "Social Club" application so I'm not sure how it could affect the game itself, but oddly it seems to have an effect. My GTA4 ran better after the dotnet 3.5 SP1 install.

What drivers are you using for your GFX card mate ?

the leaked 8.12 CCC

Dam, so am I lol

I can OC my CPU to 3.2 but I was worried about all the heat with the new gfx card, I will try lowering the resolution to your settings (it's not much), I want to see some results today lol

My bad, we have the same reolution, Doh !

the cpu is the most important thing in this game - the higher clocked your quad is the less it will bottleneck your 4870 x2

basically higher clock cpu = more fps

mine was at stock ( 2.66gghz) and i got about 25 to 30 fps, put it to 3.2 and now about 35 to 40 fps solidly (bar loads of action all at once)
