Would upgrading to a Pentium D 945 give me better performance(It's 3.4GHZ Dual core)? I bought one the other day, just waiting for it to be shipped. It would be pretty much the best processor my motherboard can take. EDIT: LOL, I set the resolution up to 1024x768 and everything up to as high as it would go(except: 30 view distance, 30 detail, and 0 shadow density) and the game was probably running at like 5-6 FPS. I don't understand how it can use 800MB of vram when I only have 256. The game itself wasn't using more system memory, so it couldn't be swapping from system to video memory.... xxCrowTechxx
Using "-norestrictions" command line to allow for the required free will with the settings with some interesting results. Before (Water&[email protected], [email protected] - ~950MB VRAM): Statistics Average FPS: 58.87 Duration: 37.10 sec CPU Usage: 57% System memory usage: 51% Video memory usage: 89% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (120 Hz) Texture Quality: High Texture Filter Quality: Highest View Distance: 34 Detail Distance: 100 After (Water&Reflections&[email protected] - ~1300MB VRAM): Statistics Average FPS: 53.28 Duration: 37.14 sec CPU Usage: 56% System memory usage: 55% Video memory usage: 95% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (120 Hz) Texture Quality: High Texture Filter Quality: Highest View Distance: 68 Detail Distance: 100 -------------------------------------- Increasing the draw distance much more causes lighting to start flickering which I might think could be corrected by availablevidmem but I like where I'm at right now. Things work pretty well (pretty normal behavior so far), not much frame loss, with higher settings and double the draw distance. I haven't played the game for a long time yet so I'm not so sure it will like this as much as execution time goes up (rock solid before this so we will see). Ironically, in the end, I'm even more confused about how/why/where/what resources GTA is using than I ever was. There never seemed to be any immediate impact on the system overall based on much higher settings and even the benchmark agrees. Also, I found playability more affected by availablevidmem than norestrictions with the same exact settings, but that might just be me.
