beat me too it I see

Key points :-

  • As conversions go, it's an odd one. On some levels, it's genuinely exemplary. Take the controls. Plug in an Xbox 360 pad and it works fine. Play with keyboard and mouse, and it's great too - with the possible exception of going bowling, which seemed a little over-tricky. More so, have both plugged in at the same time, and you can skip between them as you feel like it.
  • I had to knock down the default graphic options quite a bit on my PC (dual-core 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 640MB GeForce 8800) until I got an acceptable rate, and even then there was the occasional really nasty drop.
  • even turned down, Liberty City remains one of the most visually stunning places yet seen in videogames. And, in terms of future-proofing, there's a lot of sliders that can be turned wayyyy up.
  • if you give the chance for the game to have a little think before playing - turned into a full radio station, complete with news bulletins and DJs insulting your choice in music.
But seriously: a genuinely ground-breaking blockbuster in videogame history. There were moments playing GTA IV that I thought back to my initial experiences with games, and realised exactly how far we've come. There's never been anything quite like GTA IV in the world. That there makes me genuinely happy to be a gamer.

Score 9/10

thats on the old 8800. the new 8800's (G92 core) are quite better. even then. the old 8800's are still better than what the consoles offer.

Oh wait! So he did play with the old 8800GT? I hope so because after I read this review I was like "sh*t. That sucks, now I can't play it even with 1280x1024 and high settings" but when I saw what you told about 8800GT. I have the new 8800GT with G92 core so I really hope that it runs better with it.

It'll be impossible to ignore, as YouTube will soon be full of people lobbing up their machinma of simulated pixelated-anal-entry.

BAhahaha!

As I said before.

Rockstar knows the best advertisers of a game, are it's users..

us.

we will make the advertisements that sell the game out

and off the charts.

Sorry Charlie, not trying to steal your thunder. Just sitting here at work with a brain fart.

I forgot the 640mb 8800 cards were not the 92 core, I was not trying to make anyone upset guys.

Also, I was pondering, if low is equal to the consoles, then we are still doing better even with lower settings.

I'm pretty sure he played on an 8800GTS, because I don't think they make 640MB 8800GT's. monocle.gif

Ah no worries SkapeGoat, it's my own fault I shouldn't have been watching Carl Sagans the Cosmos tounge.gif . But yeah the reviewer was using the OLD style 8800gts (and please stop slagging it off it's my card and a pretty damn good one tounge.gif) The key thing to remember here is unless you have a pretty ace quad core and a GTX 280 you were never going to max this game out.

However if you have better hardware than the console the game will look better than the console version it is just plain common sense. The 8800gts whilst getting on is still way more powerful than anything the consoles have. So if you have a card similar in performance to it you are still in for a visual treat.

Is my PNY G92 Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 better than 8800GTS sigh.gif ?

Well that's little bit disappointing since that computer is EXACTLY what I have...

Dude..... do you need a hug?

I feel for you man I have a killer SLI rig that blew up last night. Some kids broke into my house and smashed my water heater on purpose to flood my basement. i lost 3 work PC's and my SLI 280GTX rig. 4 Monitors, and I was restoring the seats, original working radio, gauge cluster, HVAC controls, Headliner and door panels for my 67 Mustang. They are completely ruined. Now I have to game on my 2.6 Core2 with a 8800gt, g92 core, with 2 gigs of ram. The sh*t of this all is my insurance won't cover it. So trust me, I feel for you man.

I really want to know how big the monitor was that they were trying to run it on. If they were trying to run it at maximum resolution on a 30" monitor then I would feel at ease, considering I have a 9800GTX+ with a 19" monitor.

The size of the monitor has no effect on the game, it's the resolution you run the game in.

You can have a 30" monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200, but run the game in 1440x900 to get better performance.

But I agree, the reviewer should have mentioned the resolution he ran the game in.

"I had to knock down the default graphic options quite a bit on my PC (dual-core 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 640MB GeForce 8800) until I got an acceptable rate, and even then there was the occasional really nasty drop."

Just to make a note that... In the review it says he had the lower the settings, but that's from the games pre determined graphics settings based on that particular system and the review does not mentioned low, medium, or high.

Also, the card this reviewer was using, the 8800GTS 640MB, is the old G80 chipset. The new G92 chipset is much faster.

I'm running one of the new 8800 GTS's and they in some situations perform better than 9800GT's. I htink they are referring to the old ones released in '06, not the ones released in Dec '07..like mine.

the 8800gts is an old card..

Regardless, the 8800 GTS with the G92 chips perform about twice as better as the older G80 ones. That being said, the newer 8800 GTS shouldn't have a problem running this game.
