How to create infernos

I do not know if anyone else has mentioned this

 

But once I had finished the firefighter missions and was fireproof, I decided to find out if when you were burning you could light peds on fire. unfortunately it did not work however by standing around and waiting in the fire it got bigger and began to spread, peds are not affected in anyway by the fires but cars can still catch alight.

 

All the times i have done this are from the fires from blown up cars in las venturas, and i am running gta:sa on ps2 so it isn't from any mods.

 

The largest it has gotten was 5 car lengths by 3 car lengths, and it is a fun thing to do if you have to wait for time to advance for a mission to become available.

So, the point of this is to create big fires?

Ok, i sometimes do this if i am bored, but i just use a flame thrower.
