Land Of Confusion
So I've been following this game for some time now, however I neglected from posting it here due to lack of information despite the first quarter release date of 2009. Here's an extremely quick summary of what the game is. "Alpha Protocol is an upcoming third-person action role-playing game, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by SEGA. The game revolves around the adventures of rookie CIA field agent Michael Thorton." I know that's brief, however, if that peaked your intrest then check out the links I have compiled below which hold much more detailed information. If anyone else sees any links I may have missed here feel free to tell me so. Damo.
First we got 2152 oblivionAnd now 2008 oblivion? What gives you the idea that this is going to be anything like Oblivion? Bethesda aren't even affiliated with it in any way. Anyway, I like the sound of this. I love RPGs and there's not enough modern RPGs on the market. Land Of Confusion
I agree, and the spy genre is rarely used, if used at all, so there is alot of untapped potential there. Even though the game is in alpha stage, the game footage that is out looks pretty damn polished for this stage in development. @ Zcheese: I have no idea why you think this will be like oblivion, that's a completely off comparison. Obsidian isn't affiliated with Bethesda, they are however affiliated with Bioware, so if you're going to bitch about something, at least do your research. anuj
bump I was reading a bunch of stuff today about this game, and I was like "holy sh*t how did I miss this game, it came out a month ago!". Then I went to buy it online and saw it's been pushed back to June.
Reconite
Well, this may have something to do with Obsidian already working hard on Fallout: New Vegas, which is scheduled for Q1 2010 aswell (according to the Wikipedia Page on it, Alpha Protocol is scheduled for Spring 2010 release date, and June is in Summer, is it not?). Jonesizzle
I've pre-ordered this game. I was very excited to get it in October, but no... I read about this game in Game Informer and I was convinced. The combat, skills progression and dialogue all sound exciting to play.
anuj
Yeah, the delay sucks but it'll be awesome that they have a few more much to completely polish everything.
The N. Bellic Man
It looks like this one is actually coming along nicely: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/the-toys...-protocol/62668 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/a-man-alpha-protocol/62331 If it doesn't get delayed again that is. Absurdity
An uninspired spy espionage now with a sense of intrigue, an astounding sense of intrigue grounded in exquisitely deadpan, Bond like dissonant farce, as delivered by a wholly deluded Jack Bauer, exciting, gifted Jason Bourne and the baffling participation in a severely f*cking dated video game. No doubt I'll find something to love this game for, but after having spent an hour on it and mingling with its dated nature I have no inkling to pick it up anytime soon, or even again. Make of any of that above tripe, what you will.
Reconite
Bought it today, I'm having a great time with it so far. It kinda feels like Deus Ex in some senses.
Blizzard14
Pre-Purchased it right now on Steam. I also got a free copy of Space Siege. Based on some YT videos, don't know if I even want to download it though.
Kippers
I don't know about this one. I watched the 'Quick Look' over at GiantBomb and I thought some elements looked a little half baked. Didn't seem to flow properly for me, or as well as it should do for a spy game. (Obviously i'm comparing it to the top end names like Splinter Cell here) Cover system is lame, AI seems pretty dumb running straight up to bodies and the movement/camera all seems a little choppy. Not all entirely bad, just not as tidied up as I would expect. But on the plus side i've heard good things about the story/characters/upgrading systems/weapons which may attract a lot of people to it, IE probably me. I'll definitely have to go on what reviewers say for this game. Edited May 30, 2010 by kippers. 習うより慣れろ
Otter
Looking forward to it - seems like something a little fresh. Might pick it up on Tuesday.
Reconite
I'll definitely have to go on what reviewers say for this game. I'd suggest not doing that. A lot of reviewers are giving it bad scores because they were expecting "Mass Effect 2 with spies" which this game most certainly is not. This game is a heavily skill-based RPG, and the review scores suffer for it because no one of them has played a game of the aforementioned type, Deus Ex for example. You can't shoot for sh*t unless you invest "AP" in the right gun skills. There is a ton of C&C in the game and pretty much every playthrough you will do something different (provided you don't pick every same dialogue option twice round). Doing certain things is pretty rewarding, but may lose trust in another character and etc. It's a great game to me, I'd give it an 8/10 at the very least, the reviewers are just not seeing what's actually there. If any of you liked Deus Ex you'd most likely want to at least try this out, it's pretty damn good.
Absurdity
Behind the appalling combat mechanics and technical bungle there is, I've come to realise, a large dosing of cleverness in the manner Alpha Protocol tells its story. I expect plummeting mainstream sales with a cult following on the brew and flattering retrospect in the years to come.
JOSEPH X
Behind the appalling combat mechanics and technical bungle there is, I've come to realise, a large dosing of cleverness in the manner Alpha Protocol tells its story. I expect plummeting mainstream sales with a cult following on the brew and flattering retrospect in the years to come. This is one that all the critics bombed, but I've seen on other forums that gamers have said it turns out to be a good game. Might get.
tubbs51
theres some sites that give it horrbible scores and some that give it good scores. overall it looks like a good game in my opinion. i wont be buying it until its fairly cheap on the used game rack at my local GameStop. plus im too busy on RDR
The N. Bellic Man
I'll probably wait until the price is going to be reduced. Then I might buy this. Now that RDR is out I'm not in a hurry.
Creed Bratton
I'm also indecisive about this one. I've seen a gameplay video of horrible AI going up the ladder in the middle of a fight, but at the same time I love spy genre and I love RPG's. I also like weapon customization. I might wait a while too for a Steam discount action. They do a lot of those these days even with newer games.
Absurdity
If you're looking to gain hoots form a polished and fluid combat system, you won't get. Alpha Protocol looks and plays marginally unfinished. It's a bit utter mince like that. Where the game shines is in its narrative. While the dialogue itself is a tad on the hammy side of things, think of the storytelling as a stream of water where the flow can change ever so slightly depending on where you throw your pebbles in. Enemies can become allies or remain enemies. Those who start off small fry can become we're going to need a bigger boat big and some of them can be completely taken out of the story dependant on your actions. It's also f*ck all like a stream of water. I dislike out of ten scores but if it helps gauge where it's at, a good critical score would be a six. I wouldn't want to give it anymore than that. Jonesizzle
Got done with Saudi Arabia then went to Moscow and ran into that Sis bitch. Took me 5-6 times to kill that bitch, and I ended up executing her because she was a pain in my f*cking ass. Storyline is heavily based on your actions it seems, and the timed dialog is cool but sometimes catches me off guard for some reason. Mini games are a good challenge at times and the weapon system isn't to bad. Good play for me so far. Ah, but I must say that some of the f*cking textures are f*cked to hell. Seems to lag or take a long time for some to pop up. Even when I go to change my facial features and guns, the guns look blurry, it takes it a couple seconds to clear up. Anybody else have this prob? Reconite
Are you playing it on 360? I've noticed this too but I haven't heard any complaints from the PC crowd about it. It's probably a 360-only problem.

I had some problems with textures on PC but I managed to fix all of them. There are tweaks you can find on alpha protocol forum. Just google it. Anyway, how could you kill Sis It would have been much better for you if you let her live. Albatross would give you access to a lot of resources with a discount, and he's a valuable guy to have on your side My favorite character is Steven Heck. That guy rocks. Thorton: Steven, you copy? Heck: Like a floppy! Edited June 10, 2010 by GTAvanja
Jonesizzle
Son of a bitch. My girl was sittin' next to me and pressured me to "kill the bitch!". Reconite, yeah. I figured it was my 360 just gettin' rust around the edges, but maybe everyone has it? It bugged me at first, but I have gotten over it. I have stuck with the big beard+beanie. Zello
Sorry for the bump but as I was looking through some of my old 360 games I found this game again and played it. It's pretty horrible but I coudn't put it down even as I was doing probably the worst boss fight in video gaming I loved the dialogue options in the game I always choose the funny ones making Michael Thorton look like an ass. The game had so much potential but all of the bugs, terrible combat, horrible UI and the tiny font ruined it Edited May 9, 2016 by Zello
