Hopefully this doesn't happen, would probably be similiar to the subway attacks in 04. What a world.

What a world. i recommend you dont go the subway, why risk it, even tho it might not happen f*ck that, I ride the transit system 6 days a week. If something happens, something happens. I can't really change my lifestyle either way and I have to take transit, so living in fear is not worth it. Plus the federal government doesn't really have a whole lot of credibility with me, especially surrounding the issue of terrorism, so I will "take my chances." This would be an opportune time for an attack, but let's hope it doesn't happen.

neato9611
Well, what exactly are the chances that say, some radical jihadist group will attack us? Is this a "who the hell knows" kind of situation or is it the "we're screwed" kind of situation? I really don't want to have to go through having our world changed again. Look how drastic 9/11 was, imagine what things will be like if this happens. I might be over exaggerating a bit, but martial law anyone?
kerouac.
The NYC subway already looks like a bomb has gone off half the time. Except instead of shrapnel and flames spewing everywhere it spews transients and guidos in popped collar shirts.
Vive La France
Thing is, with the NYPD flipping out, the odds of anything happening happening are practically zero. You know, these security percautions have a reason and they work.
kerouac.
NYPD and MTA police already have the authority to randomly search peoples bags and detain them for nothing more than being on MTA property. This is a huge abuse of power as it is and I can only imagine what sort of batsh*t crazy policies they'll enact to "protect" the system now that there's been a direct threat. I don't know what the f*ck is going on in America, the military industrial complex used to be a beast that you just didn't f*ck with. The CIA can cripple South America democracies and install despots, they can kill populist leaders and replace them with fundamentalist dictators (Iran anyone) but they can't f*cking kill one dude in a cave in Pakistan? Terrorists around the world are wearing smug f*cking smiles knowing that they got away with one of the largest mindf*cks in history and they'll keep coming in hordes until somebody does something about it. Yeah but that's like wearing a foot thick styrofoam suit just because there is the possibility of getting hit by a bus. There's many ways one can die, cities in general tend to be dangerous places, while I agree a little security is essential for order... under the Bush era it's stepped on peoples toes to the extent where they can't sh*t without clearing it with homeland security. They should focus resources to putting an actual face on the enemy and eradicating them.

Mad Tony
Yes, our beloved Department of Homeland Security that has made us all feel very safe indeed must be right. Of course we must trust everything that they say because if we don't we will certainly be killed by vicious TERRORISTS.[/sarcasm] There may very well be some violent act but it there were I wouldn't doubt it's the works of the Department of Homeland Security or its sister organisations. Guybrush Threepwood
Wasn't there the same kind of thing around this time last year? I could of swore I remember hearing it and yet nothing happened then. Good memory. In October 2005, New York City's subway system was on high alert after detainees in Iraq were thought to be plotting a bomb attack. but the threat was later found to lack credibility. In August 2007 police stepped up security throughout Manhattan and at bridges and tunnels in response to an unverified Internet report that al Qaeda might be plotting to detonate a dirty bomb in the city. Maybe it's just fearmongering, after all, scaring people into not leaving their houses is one mighty powerful tool.

Just remember... "Those who would give up a little Liberty for a little Security, will deserve neither, and lose both." - Benajmin Franklin I'm an ignorant patriot whose ideas are not to be critiqued. I altered someone's post to draw attention away from the fact that I'm a f*cking retard. Fixed. Seriously though, I actually thought that little exchange was pretty amusing. You said something, he made it obvious that he disagreed, you immediately jumped to calling him ignorant and insinuating that he was the one who couldn't take criticism. Irony? (edit) I guess how seriously you take this depends on how easily you scare. Personally I wouldn't be any more wary of riding the subway just because of an unverified threat. Anyway, I doubt anything will actually happen. It seems this is just the normal type of deal where they hear something might happen and boost security just to be safe. If they were really that worried they would have warned regular people in a press conference instead of us hearing about "internal memos" and people who spoke "on condition of anonymity." To me this just seems like the press trying to make a "story" sound bigger than it is. Edited November 27, 2008 by Sweets PяopagaиdaIиc.

Struff Bunstridge
I'd keep an eye out. We received similar warnings a little over three years ago. They were mostly unheeded, and then a handful of London Underground stations got blown to f*ck. It sucks that innocents are being threatened like this. Avoid the subways if you can, dudes; better safe than sorry.
kerouac.
It always strikes me as a little odd (or perhaps tragically paradoxical) that New York City always seems to be the target for these strikes. Sure, it's the most densely populated city of the "great white satan" empire, but it's also an international metropolis that is for the most part vocally opposed to the war. I mean sure, who wouldn't want to detonate a pipe bomb in an American Apparel or two just to see if hipsters do indeed bleed red, but I really am starting to think the terrorists are missing their intended demographic. Why don't the terrorists, I don't know, bomb Oklahoma, Utah or Kentucky? Why not blow up Graceland or Aspen? These places are more representative of their true enemies and would hit the religious right a little closer to home. But I guess the terrorists are just as incompetent as the American war machine. At the end of the day both sides are run by fat old men who sit in comfortable offices and decide how many young adults they should send to their death on that day. The only real difference between them is the length of their beards. but sweets is right, don't subscribe to the fear and the enemy can't win. Most wars are lost by the side that loses the ability to persevere. But in this case, neither combatant seems truly afraid, they're far to f*cked in the head idealistic to feel a human emotion such as fear, and perhaps that's why the same war (when you really think about it) has been going on since 'Nam. Struff Bunstridge
Why don't the terrorists, I don't know, bomb Oklahoma, Utah or Kentucky? Why not blow up Graceland or Aspen? I suspect that, while the places you mentioned are perhaps more indicative of America as a culture, they wouldn't have the same effect; terrorists are usually going to target densely populated areas with political, economic and social impact. It's what the IRA always used to do over here, targeting places like Canary Wharf, and without going into all the conspiracy theories, you could argue that it got the desired effect with the WTC.
