Unggoy1957
As title says, my disk is somehow scratched, it runs for one minute, loads all right, then the "Unable to read disk" message pops up, but I can still hear my car crash into a wall. I tried cleaning, restarting, and now I know only one thing other than a full new disk. Is it possible to somehow install the game from this disk onto the hard drive and get it to hopefully work? I know it is a vain chance, but it's a possibility, even if it's small. So, install and work or completely and utter failure?
Ravenwood
Borrow another copy of the game and install that one.
Crazy Asian
If the game can't read the disc...what makes you think it will be able to read the data off the disc to install it to the HDD? I dunno if it would still work after you install it if you borrowed it from someone because you still need the disc to play the game after you install it, and I dunno how it works really; never bothered. Once you install the disc onto the HDD, you don't need the disc anymore. You only need it to verify that you have the game. Once installed, the game will read off the HDD, not the disc itself. Unggoy1957
It can read the disk for a while, then it stops being able to, one minute of playing, not including loading it can last. I'll try tomorrow when I get home. Rather odd though, going for that long then failing. If it doesn't work, I might as well see if I can get another by different means than purchasing an entire new disk.
kietotheworld
Might be your disc drive that's the problem, experienced anything similar with other games?
nlitement
All of the advice so far has been pretty unhelpful. Apply toothpaste. Plenty of it, on the silver side, of course. Rub it nice with your fingers, then after you've rubbed it, rinse it in water really well and dry it. You'll get a bit more superficial scratches but hey I'd take those (they don't affect reading) over deep scratches (they affect readablity) any time! And if you want a more long-lasting fix, just take it someplace where they can slice the plastic off the disc to make it look brand-new.
Shaunr
you can install a game onto the hard drive? Please someone do tell. And if it has a circular scratch you're screwed. Pretty Much. You can take it to a place to have it buffed or whatever. takes of a coating of plastic works sometimes, and better chance if it isn't a circualr scratch. And if you install the game onto your HD, does it take the game off the disk?

Dear x Sergio
I think the bottom line is this: You need a playable and functional disk to install it on the HDD. I have tried it with a busted disk that will load the game up but then freeze, and it didn't let me get past 0% in the installation. However, if you get your hands on a disk that works and install it, your broken disk should be able to play it from the HDD if you are able to get into the game at all on it normally. GTA3Freak-2001
You can only try, its likely though that if it can't read the disc to play, it might have a hard time accessing the data to copy to the hard drive.
Emotion98.3
Ok, here is a idea that might work, Go to blockbuster or a place, then rent the game. Then install the game from there onto you're harddrive, then take the game back (the same one...please) then put in the broken one in you're 360 then play it off the harddrive. So all you need the broken disc for is for verification that IT IS the game. Hope It Helps

Well, I currently have it installed on my HDD and am experiencing zero problems. In fact, I've just run into my first pop-in this morning, after many hours since the NXE came out. The main loading time is slightly shortened, your xbox is quieter and your disk drive is safe. I'd definitely recommend that you install it. I mean, say you do experience lag and disgusting pop-ins (I don't). If you feel it is bad enough to revert to disk use, then by all means do so. I'd say try it on the HDD, and if you experience performance issues, then go back to the disk.
batik89
@Dear x Sergio thanks for your advice, dude btw, that's funny when you got pop-up today, after many use since nxe came out. do you know what's the problem? Dear x Sergio
@Dear x Sergiothanks for your advice, dude btw, that's funny when you got pop-up today, after many use since nxe came out. do you know what's the problem? I wouldn't say it's a problem at all. It was just a barrier-type object that I crashed into and then it appeared. This happens on occasion without the game being installed on the HDD, so I wouldn't lean it towards being caused by the HDD installation. You're Welcome, btw. avsrule247
I hate to say this, but you should have f*cking taken better care of your disc. I hate to say it because I am late with my advice, but I love that I can rub it in that I am not a slob and you are.
