If you take a look at III then take a look at IV. You'd notice some really big changes. First, the pedestrians look like there actually living a life. I've been to Times Square in III and everything there looks pretty much dead. Nobody really walking around except a few pedestrians. But in IV, the pedestrians are there going about life getting newspapers/drinks/burgers. People are getting into Taxi's to go somewhere, heck i went to Alderney and went into somebody's driveway and the garage opened up. So i pulled in and another car pulled into the driveway and rammed into mine. tounge.gif So i leave the garage and every so often cars pull into driveways and pull into there garage. Makes the experience more lively. Also, i would like to conculde that IV has more of a real feel to it, sometimes in III you feel that you are pretty much alone in the world except for some missions. III is really by far a really good game but it also had a loneliness feel to it. Something IV does not have. When you go to a burger shot, there are people sitting down at there seats. There are people working in the back of the kitchen, there is a person taking you're order (something SA had too). Also if you go in back of the burger shot you have the employee's cars and customers cars. You also had the occasional worker on break and deciding to light it up behind the building. You go back into Alderney and find people raking leaves in there yard. People sweeping there driveway. And family having get togethers in the back of there house on the bench or chairs just Talking. Thank you Rockstar for making this a very "Much Alive" game.

I agree so much and I think the same things you do! The game actually feels like a real city and that's what keeps me going beck to play it again.

Both games are very different, especially after playing GTA III and then playing GTA IV.

I remember playing GTA III the first time at my friends house in early 2002. I was like WOOW. Everything you could do, it was amazing. And now some year later I'm playing GTA IV and I finally got back to that feeling. GTA III and GTA IV are two amazing games.

Yes it's amazing how far GTA has come.

I remember first playing GTA III back in early 2002, and it was seriously the best game I ever played. I still have fond memories of the opening cutscene.

Who could ever forget when 8 Ball said "I've got a place in the Red Light district where we can lay low, but my hands are all messed up, so you better drive brother"? I think that's how it went.

I actually remember driving to the safehouse, changed into the street clothes, grabbed a baseball bat, and headed back to Callahan bridge. I pulled the baseball bat out, and beat the piss out of some poor ped. That was the first time I ever inflicted pain in the 3D GTA world. God knows how much I've done since then. lol.gif

Yeah the bad thing or i dont know really was that i got VC and III at the same time with that pack and i played VC first and all i remember from the first time was "I sneak my head out of the gutter for one freakin second and fate shovels sh*t in my face" as i went on with it... i noticed III and VC were both awesome but... III was too grey and cold... like i remember wanting to go to Shoreside Vale to find some warmth because Portland and Staunton were just so lifeless... but even when i got there... there was colour but it still didnt make it warm

I own GTA III, but have only played GTA IV once. I agree with what you say, IV has a more reallistic city feel compared to III. I remember getting killed and sent to the hospital, and outside the hospital there was a nurse smoking. (I started a fight with her and I got knocked out quickly) GTA IV does have a more comfortable feel to it, unlike GTA III wich looked like a zombie town.

Gta III felt really cold and dark. Everyone hated you. Thats what made it feel the way it does. I'm glad that they changed that bit in GTA 4. There were some areas in the old liberty city you would never imagine stepping out of your car to take a look around. Maybe they should have had a just bit of something like that in GTA 4. Either way, they took a step in the right direction.

GTA III didn't make me feel alone at all. The noises were perfect, the peds were lively, and the traffic was perfect pace. It's true though, that everyone only hated you but, look at GTA IV. The peds are just as big of dicks, and other than scripted friends, the world is still anti-you.

I miss GTA III. I wish I could go back in time to when that game came out. Man, there was nothing like it.

The coolest and most unexpected thing i have ever done in a game, is flying the Dodo in GTA III

i think GTA III had the nicest graphics of all the previous generation GTA games.

But GTA 4 is just mindblowing, the physics and depth is just extremely well made.

Rockstar couldn't have done better....well done

Your sig breaks the rules of physics. It will be removed.

@ Above Poster - Yeah it probably will be

But yeah, all this little diffrents just makes the game more lively for me. When i first got III i thought it was awsome, way off the hook. Then i heard about Vice City and that seemed AWSOME, i fell in love instantly. inlove.gif , Now with IV everything is about Realism. And now that IV has that Video Editor for the PC i can make some really cool videos in the video editor. These small details just make the game great biggrin.gif

I love how the peds react. For example, if you stand too close to them they will say something like "piss off" or something like that.

Yeah GTA III had this atmosphere where it felt like you were in hell or something.

I guess that's what makes it so good. In a way I wish parts of IV were like that. It sometimes feels too safe.

I remember in GTA III I would never cross the basketball courts in Chinatown, without a weapon, because that was Triad territory.

I agree to some degree. The first time I played GTA III was on my brothers PS2 for about three hours back in 2003. After that, I didn't pick up a copy of the game for myself until late 2004 (ridiculous I know). When I did get the game in my hands and manage to sit down and play through the entire storyline it was pretty mind blowing how open the game felt. Despite how advanced GTA IV is compared to GTA III, I think what is important is (for their times) they both gave the same feeling of liveliness when playing them for the first time. And, as a poster said above me, I totally agree that playing GTA IV for the first time brought back both memories and feelings from GTA III that I haven't had playing many games recently.

How the hell can you compare two different games from two different eras? Of course IV is better considering the original poster's thoughts. We have further advanced technology that we didn't have 7 years ago. It's not like we did and decided not to use it in III.

You can compare the two games, you just shouldnt judge which is better. GTA 4 is a gaming masterpeice but it would never have been made if GTA 3 wasn't nearly as awesome as it was when it came out. I remember purchasing the game shortly after it came out (Sticker price $69.99) and I was playing it on my sh*tty laggy computer. It made me realize that games could be much more than "go here" "do this". I remember it being one of the most controversial games of its time, although I always had a difficult time finding an appropriate spot to use a hooker. dozingoff.gif

Exactly. I also first played it at a friends house after school while we were stoned, always free roaming. We played the story at a much later time. Because of GTA 3 I got a Playstation.

I remember cops chasing you while driving during a stormy weather, shooting at cops left and right out of your car window, police sirens and choppers with search lights shining at you, "put your hands in the air rright now!" thru the megaphone, people screaming everywhere, pickin up adrenaline pill and listening Double Cleff FM to make it a more psycho effect haha woow that was the sh*t! That's how I played all the time. One big thrill.

Now in GTA 4 it doesn't feel like I felt in 3 because it was all new.

It was very alive to me, best game experience I ever had.

The reason GTA III felt cold was because it took place in 1990 and in 1990 New York City the

people were angry and rude. I should know, I've lived in New York my hole life and still am here.

Yes it was set in "modern" time, 2001. And I still miss that damned rocket launcher. I love the big military style cannons.

GTA 3 was great, but it had this dark, gloomy feeling. It felt like you were in some strange world.

I love the big military style cannons.

That's what she said.

I just recently got my copy of GTA4 for the PS3 and I LOVE IT. I've logged about 8 hours on it so far, and at

only 20% completion, I am BLOWN AWAY at how involved the plot is. I love the way the gameplay has

changed from III to IV, especially with the addition of the cell phone. I think that is one of the most

game-changing features between the two versions.

I find that while playing IV there is aaalllways something to do that's related to the story, and not just running

around jacking and killing people, because let's face it, after like 20 hours of that nonsense, it does play out.

This has not lost its flavor for me, and it's only the second day I've owned it. I love and hate the characters,

which for me is a new way to play a game. I'm not one to usually get sucked into the story of any game, but

I'm totally hooked with this one. It's awesome.

The characters are totally believable, fascinating to watch, and are genuinely funny. The dialogue is great, the

story is impeccable, and the missions are INTENSE.

Gameplay? Fantastic. Driving took a little getting used to, because the differences from driving in III and

driving in IV are huuuuge. To be honest, I still get fouled up in the camera work every now and then, since I'm

used to the camera staying at one point behind the car, using the controller bumpers to look to either side and

to the rear. I feel like the camera movement in IV requires constant attention, which I'm still coping with.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh GTA 3 I loved it, but it did have a very dark gloomy feeling like others were saying. Then I played GTAIV at my friends house and I was astonished by how good the graphics and physics were. I will never look back. I will be getting GTA IV for PC and for 360 when I get a 360 it's just so great smile.gif

I'v played GTA since the very first one. Playing III was just breath taking. Going from the top down view onto full on 3D was just amazing. Now we're even further on in the generation (come on how many has been brough out now, like 10 or 11?) and theres only gonna be more and even better to come.

Things i miss from III, Adrenalin Pills (dam was brill seeing people fly), Rampages, Mafia Sentinel, Stinger. III was a more dangerous town I'd say. By the end no gang likes you devil.gif

I actually think San Andreas felt more like a real place. Every island in IV, all the peds look and act the same, except for a few extra bums here and there.

In SA, we had the hick town, full of hillbillies, very different vehicles etc then you went into the gangster areas, full of criminals, low-riders and gang shoot-outs, then when you went into the cites it was full of great cars, huge casinoes and silly peds. (Elvis)
