Rickzu
ATI would probably release a driver hotfix like they done in Far Cry 2 I'd advice to read the thread they had an older version of the game were ati cards were not supported but in the final version they will be supported<! Remember that the Magazine became NOT the final version of the game.It was an beta version and they tested it 1 or 2 months ago! It's an early review version, my guess is they've fixed most of the performance issues too since then.

camdean
Delete some random files in ANY game folder, and you got it, a supernextgen game that can´t run on any setting. Or more like a screw lose !! Next gen games, are meant to push it to the full, wether you like it or not, thats actually what next gen means. Anywho .. I decided to order an update for my gfx card, ebuyer are doing a 'buy now, pay later' finance option where if you pay before 9 months you pay no interest, real good for me as money is tighter than a nuns **** just now .. I worked it out at about £35 a month to avoid the interest, which I can just manage. PowerColor HD 4870X2 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI TV Out PCI-E Graphics Card Link for interest .. www.ebuyer.com/product/148274 Had to order a seperate power unit, 700 watt at £70. MB: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R RAM: 4gb DDR2 (Crucial) PCU: Intel Quad Q6660 2.4ghz And that bad boy above when it comes next week. If it wasn't for the finance option I don't think I wouldn't be able to afford it, but it's time I upgraded my GFX to suit the rest of my machine, so maybe GTA was the next gen push I needed to secure my gaming in the future. If it fails those tests I will hang myself on youtube
DexX
GTAIV has 10x bigger map and over 250 000 more models ingame. You do know the game doesn't render it all at once, right? Actually it does, but in low poly mode and to hide it they blur it out and use fog. Which is highly eliminated in the PC version due to higher memory. I work as a game developer and have high knowledge about this engine you joined yesterday, you have no reputation, stop lying to yourself The game sure as hell does not render it all at once, unless its more poorly coded than we thought. A basic rule of optimization - for any game - is to only render what is viewable. The only time you should be drawing the entire map, is when the entire map is visible. @ Topic - The fact that they had any issues with ati cards at all, is disturbing. If Rage is coded to work with Directx properly, and ati doesn't f*ck up their drivers, there shouldn't be any compatibility issues.
TruXter
Ok, rant #2 YOU CAN'T CALL A 2 YEAR OLD CONSOLE "NEXT GEN" And you can not rely on the specs quoted from the German magazine. Not because of where it is from, but the date of the beta. the day they beta tested the game was before the first batch of specs where released. So telling people their machine will or will not make it, based on those specs is not very logical. I mean common, we have had the official game specs from Rockstar for more than a week now. If you are a pc gamer, then you know your machine will play it.. I mean by now you should have everything covered.

CharmingCharlie
Yes but the console versions are running the game at 1280x1024 with 2x Anti Aliasing Dunno if you made a typo there or you are under the impression the consoles run the game at 1280 x 1024 but that isn't the case :- Xbox 360 GTA 4 = 1280 x 720 with 2 x AA PS3 GTA 4 = 1140 x 640 with No AA Naturally both consoles can UPSCALE the game to 1080p. So basically if you can play the PC version on low with traffic density set to 33% at 1280 x 720 you will get the exact same experience as the consoles, but then that would be a pretty low spec machine. borgeater
GoW and Lost Planet pushed the gfxs front far more than GTA 4 in their respective pc version and don't run anywhere near as bad as GTA 4 according to this magazine. vachon644
Ok for all the clowns that want to compare every game to crysis. STFU NEWB!crysis is more advanced than squat. Crysis was a broken open code that needed a patch but never got one.. why? becuase you retards where so hell bent on being the cool kid who can play it at max resolution you got your parents to spend 3 grand on a pc and components, only to find that you still couldn't play the game maxed out. Why is this? because the game is crap and really needed patching. THERE IS NOTHING GOING ON IN CRYSIS wow a leaf blew around on a tree and you had 5-20 people attacking you from time to time... GTA is a whole fricken city. on scale , it is probably larger than most of the cities you newbs live in. there is one guy I keep seeing in here who calls himself a "PC Gamer" who so far has had nothing decent to say about the game. to me, you are in no way a pc gamer. You are a newb who wants some unjustified status. Now stfu and go play your 360, we all know you are just here to troll. These people who wrote this mag, did their testing well over a month ago. Before we got informed of a delay. anyone remember the thread about the dudes that got gathered to beta from all over? use the search in the forums every now and again. Most likely you ati freaks can get your ati on the game by now. On another note, I have three hundred dollar self built computer that will play this game atleast at 75% settings. If you people can't achieve that. stfu and grab your $500 console you paid to much for two years ago put your controller in your hands and scream "I play next gen!!!' For those who are bashing the game, if you noticed , this is a gta fan site. Your opinions are not needed here. try google it will find you a crysis newb site.. btw crysis sucked bad. I beta tested it on a 6200 nvidia card, and played it later on a 8900gt it did not change. I actually believe the beta was better than the final piece of... I mean product. Obvious troll is obvious. I think those specs are just over estimated. Anyway, I'm fine to play (Probably maxed out @ 1680x1050). In a few days we'll see.

mashine
For all concerned about Pentium D, there is preview on polish site (here) and they say that Pentium D is minimum processor requirement. They also say about video editor that you can record one minute behind and further until YOU STOP RECORDING so you can record very long clips. Let's hope that is truth. EDIT: They also say that XP SP2 is minimum so I can't guarantee that is truth. Edited November 27, 2008 by mashine

zoom7
WTF? if this is true i think rockstar just shot themselfs in the leg. Not with any old gun, im talking about a RPG here. I disagree. They always make the highest detail setting only available to the best hardware. Otherwise people with a modern cpu and gfx card would get no added benefits and the game would look like an older game. Of course every one with a lesser system will cry when they can't play in top resolution at 30 fps, but the only way around that would be if they simply released it limited to the resolution of the console. That would be dumb since you can get the same result by simply turning details down. Also many newbie gamers fight over what a good fps is. Usually kids. Beyond 30fps it's hard to perceive any difference if the animation is 100% fluid and locked to certain rate. Fact is that this game in high resolution will not likely top more than 30 fps on good hardware. That''s enough to give a very fluid feel to motion. Besides everyone would be in the same boat, so relatively speaking, it's all the same in play. But the main point is that if you can't run in top resolution at their top fps, then you need newer hardware. End of story. No one with a 2 year old computer and a cheaper gfx card should complain. They can just play in mid resolution which is still better than the console. I built a really fast system and saved by doing it that way. So I think I'm ready since it's one of the fastest. I also have a new 8800. So I should be good. If that isn't enough to get 1680x1050 I will just change my gfx card.
